While known for it's expansive shipyards, a bustling community center was regularly flooded with goods on the planet of Bracca. As a neutral world, many from across the galaxy came to peddle their wares without the overbearing presence of galactic powers and their oversight. The shipyards were always ready to capitalize on visitors, exchanging valuable scrap for incoming goods. Once again the street market was bustling, with many looking to haggle their way to a profit.

In Bracca's Galactic Market anything goes. Spice, illegal weapons, high fashion, droids, you name it. No payment is denied either. If you can barter something of equivalent value or find a way to reduce the price of goods, you may often find yourself walking away with a steal. Rayne, of course, was familiar with this. She frequented many markets to sell her salvaged goods. It was going to be a good day. She had managed to find some valuable ship parts to make her haul worth while, stuff she was eager to get exchanged for something that would get her finances back in the green. Hopefully.

It was lightly raining now, and she had just gotten her walker, the Rayne Runner, crouched down to set up her market stall. Hopefully the rain wouldn't keep business down too much. Thankfully, despite the drizzle, the marketgoers were out in full force.

Maybe she would get lucky today.

This is a thread for scrapper-type characters to bring their goods to sell, as well as for travelers to come and buy said junk. No PVP on terms of principle for the style of thread this is, and please leave a list of the things your character is selling. Canon items and custom items are both welcome. Barter, haggle, do whatever.

Rain slicked Tilon's brilliant hair down despondently. He'd bought a hat too late. But the drizzle wasn't too bad and he felt considerably less despondent than his hair. Downright positive really. He has high hopes about unloading his backpack full of salvage from that Ashlan cult derelict.

He ducked under the awning of a stall that had just gone up in the shelter of an unusual walker. The proprietor was a green Twi'lek woman who seemed like she knew her business. The gear here, those little cold fusion cores in particular, piqued his interest. And that Class Four drive — he could certainly use a backup.

"How's it going?" he said in flawless Twi'lek, unslinging his clanking bag and opening the wide flap to display. "I've got my eye on that drive — what ship's it from? How many parsecs?"

He dug out his big take, an old but unmatched MVSE Aryzah relativistic shield.

"Any interest in barter? This is a time distortion rig."

"How's it going?" he said in flawless Twi'lek, unslinging his clanking bag and opening the wide flap to display. "I've got my eye on that drive — what ship's it from? How many parsecs?"

Rayne stared a bit deadpan for a moment. She wasn't fluent in Twi'leki. She was born on Nar Shaddaa, only recently visiting the home of her people for the first time. Needless to say she recognized the sounds, but had no idea what it was that was said. She stood there awkwardly, a little lost on what it was that was being said.

He wanted to barter at least, which was fine. That was a rather advanced shield projector, the sort of thing that protected you from time dilation jumping to hyperspace, though it seemed to have a bit of age to it. Was he interested in the hyper drive? That was the only real equivalent piece of equipment that she had.

"Are you asking about the hyper-drive?" she asked, not with her voice. She had taken control of a vocoder which hung from the roof of her walker. "Sorry, I am not fluent in Twi'lek... I was not born there."

Tilon Quill

Don't worry kid it's not real
Nodding sympathetically — he didn't have much of his native language either — Tilon got an idea. While he chewed on that idea's feasibility, he switched to Basic simultaneously with Outer Rim Sign Language in case that was easier. Just about everyone at the Bracca market had some sign out of necessity.

"Yes, I'd like the hyperdrive. I can use it as a backup." He set the shield module down and showed her the inside of his pack. "If you take barter, I have this relativistic shield, a spacetrooper helmet, and a couple of hold-out blasters."

He tapped his temple, then his heart, trying to signal something mental and spiritual.

"I could also give you that language. Not as a trade, just a gift."

He'd done a lot of that niche work on the Longjumper's Mark expedition, mostly to help crewmates bring their Basic up to speed or to communicate better with people they met in the galaxy of the Yuuzhan Vong. Language — understanding it, acquiring it, instilling it — was his overriding specialty. He was abjectly poor at any number of other ways to use the Force, but this, giving her the language she deserved to know, he could actually do.

Rayne Lo'to Rayne Lo'to

"The hyperdrive is class 4, 0.61 parsecs," she explained. "Better than the standard backup drive. Usually those are class 8 or class 10. I'm fine to barter, I'd say the helmet and the relativistic shield should suffice."

Rayne wasn't really looking to sell arms anyways. That was a whole other business that she didn't have time to futz around with. He then offered her the ability to learn Twi'leki. How... strange. Rayne didn't really have a need to learn it. After all, she had only ever been to Ryloth once, and it didn't feel like her home at all. She wasn't of Ryloth. Was that something she should care about?

"I... don't have time to learn a language right now," she decided. "Perhaps another time..."

Perhaps. She wasn't certain.

Tilon Quill

Don't worry kid it's not real
That felt like lack of compelling interest in the language angle, so he let it pass amiably and focused on the trade. She had a point about the Class Four drive being faster than most backup units, and he ran some mental calculations on his ship's system strain capacity. Whether the relativistic shield was worth as much as the drive or more was a debate he didn't feel like haggling, and the helmet, while nice and very useful, took up so much backpack space, almost worse than the relativistic shield. Spacetrooper helmets were cumbersome bastards. And besides, that drive was barely used.

"That sounds like a fine trade to me." He laid out the relativistic shield module and the spacetrooper helmet on her counter space, where they'd doubtless get traded up into any number of other things over the course of this market or its successors. He hefted the hyperdrive - small craft scale but still about as heavy as the relativistic shield and considerably knobblier. Good thing he'd brought padding material for the backpack.

"These B1 droids...I wouldn't mind having some fold-up back-up aboard. How functional are they?"

Bracca was a neutral world in the grand political sense, but it didn't mean it had no desire for shady business. Lucy had acquired some goods that she could sell here, due to some contracts falling through. Not to mention some other things she had acquired in her travels across the stars. Lucy was pushing around a hover cart filled with her things, using a tarp to cover them from the rain. She passed by some other stalls and vendors, not really interested in their goods.

She continued walking til she spotted an odd looking walker. For a minute she stared at it, wondering who would everr built such a thing. Then she happened to notice two people bartering. Figuring they might also be interested in what she is selling, she pushed her hover cart to them, giving them a charming roguish smile.

"Afternoon, to you both. Could I perhaps interest either of you in my wares?"
she said as she slowly lifted up the tarp. "I am sure I have something for you sir" Lucy said to the man "And hopefully something catches your beautiful eyes." Lucy said to the Twi'lek with a wink

"These B1 droids...I wouldn't mind having some fold-up back-up aboard. How functional are they?"

"Their original programming is in tact, and I've refurbished them to the best of my ability," Rayne remarked. "You may want to run some software updates. I find the original programming is... well, unintelligent at times. They were mass-produced, so that isn't much of a surprise."

It wasn't long before a newcomer came, though instead they were peddling their wares. That wasn't an issue. Folks traded things around here all the time. But...

"And hopefully something catches your beautiful eyes."

That made Rayne bristle a little. She didn't like being some pretty face. Unfortunately it was good for business, so she sort of had to just brush it off and try her best not to pout... Well, she hated spice, so that was out. Shield gauntlets... perhaps. There was some value in it. The rest were droids, which she already had enough of herself.

"Perhaps you'd be willing to part with a shield gauntlet or two for a Palladium Fusion Core?" Rayne inquired. "It's a good alternative energy source for smaller equipment. Highly resistant to EMP damage."

Tilon looked hard at that new arrival's droideka and recalled fighting similar droids on a cultic derelict. Useful, absolutely. He could probably even get past the distrust. But two crucial factors stayed his hand: his ship was too small for anything to roll around effectively, and he just plain couldn't afford it. A droideka was an order of magnitude more complex and nasty than a B-1. If he had that much money or barter he'd have tried to get that spice off the market.

"How much for the two B-1s?" he asked Rayne quickly, not looking to get in the way of her bargaining with the new arrival. "I've got wupiupi and UCs, either currency is fine with me."

The MIN Fool's Errand exited hyperspace just outside of Bracca, as Captain Tane prepared his personal starfighter for transit down to the planet's surface.

Best described as an "inhospitable junkyard wasteland", Bracca was wisely avoided by most citizens of the galaxy. Those who did scrape a living off the planet were mainly scrappers and salvagers, who worked tirelessly to turn the junk scattered about the planet's surface into useable material that could be bought and sold.

As Ronhar passed overheard, he could see these scrappers and salvagers setting up a number of stalls in a makeshift market place. This was, of course, the reason he had come to Bracca in the first place. Though the scrapyards of Mahporeem were impressive in their own right, they had sat neglected for hundreds of years, and had just been reopened to new acquisitions from across the galaxy. Ronhar, being something of a collector himself, had decided to take matters into his own hands. He had secured a leave of absence from his duty as Captain, and had decided to check out the junk markets of Bracca for hidden deals and unique items. After all, the galaxy was a large place, and Ronhar was determined to see everything it had to offer.

Ronhar landed his starfighter and exited the vehicle, making his way to the ramshackle stalls that had been set up around the area. He was somewhat worried that his appearance might make the locals wary of him, but of they were at all bothered by his presence, they didn't show it. Ronhar had, of course, come prepared to bargain, as he had brought a datapad with a full catalogue of Mahporeem's wares. Being a Captain in Special Forces, Ronhar had rather broad discretion to "requisition" anything that he might need to complete his missions. Mahporeem wouldn't miss a few items if they were ordered by Captain Tane.

As he made his way throughout the marketplace, he glanced at the various creatures harking and selling their wares. One of the stalls caught his eye, though not so much for the wares it was selling, but rather for who was selling him. The yellow Twi'lek running the stall was easily the tallest one he had ever seen in his life. She must have been at least six and a half feet tall, and possibly even taller than that. She certainly towered over Ronhar, and Ronhar was not a short man by any stretch of the imagination.

She seemed to be engaged in conversation with some customers, who had a number of wares of their own: battle droids and blaster rifles, among other things. Ronhar decided to make his way over: the BX-Battle Droid Commandos and Droideka were especially interesting to him.

He approached the Twi'lek and her customers, and turned to the human, saying:

"You, purple haired human girl ( Lucy Laccarr Lucy Laccarr ). How much for the droids?"

"Perhaps you'd be willing to part with a shield gauntlet or two for a Palladium Fusion Core?" Rayne inquired. "It's a good alternative energy source for smaller equipment. Highly resistant to EMP damage."

Lucy took a look at the Palladium Fusion Core for a moment. She didn't particularly have a need for such a device as Lucy didn't have a speeder. But she could trade this item for something else down the line. Plus who knows, she could get a speeder in the future. "Are you sure that fusion core still works? I do not want to barter for items that are damaged." Lucy wasn't accusing the Twi'lek of being a bad vendor, it was more a statement of fact. Lucy would also take two shield gauntlets, activating them to show that they do indeed work.

"You, purple haired human girl . How much for the droids?"

Dropping the shield gauntlets gently back onto her hover cart, Lucy turned to see..the Imperial. There was a bit of glare from Lucy. considering her opinions of Imperials. But this was a neutral world and he did have a right to be here like anyone else. So Lucy swallowed her disgust and put on a bit of a fake smile. "That depends. How much are you got?"

"How much for the two B-1s?" he asked Rayne quickly, not looking to get in the way of her bargaining with the new arrival. "I've got wupiupi and UCs, either currency is fine with me."

"I wouldn't do any more than 2,000 UCs a piece," Rayne admitted. "They're antique, need some major software updates. It's a bit of an investment to get them to were they aren't running around like headless porgs. You could do 3,000 for the set and call it a package deal."

She sort of wanted to just get rid of them anyways. Less hassle for her.

"Are you sure that fusion core still works? I do not want to barter for items that are damaged."

Rayne puffed out her cheeks a little. First the unsanctioned flirting and now questioning the quality of her goods? This lady was really something.

"I tested them all myself," Rayne assured through the vocoder. "Besides, their low maintenance cores. All of the fusion reaction is in the palladium, the compound itself. It doesn't run out of juice."

How they even found a cold-fusion generating compound in the gut of a creature was beyond her, but it was useful in application. She had seen smaller cores like the ones she had on her used in firearms, droids, all kinds of weird little gadgets. Wasn't the size of a starship, but you could do some interesting things when you didn't have to worry about EMP interference.

The purple-haired human seemed to have the courtesy to demonstrate that her gear also worked at least. That did a lot to make Rayne a lot less annoyed. If only just to alleviate the concern, Rayne grabbed some nearby equipment and cobbled together an electrical circuit between the core and a spare radio she had on hand, letting static emit from the device to demonstrate that they were producing power.

"There, no issues," she concluded.

She spared the newly arriving Imperial a glance. Huh. Not usually the sorts that came out here. Usually they were out... well, attacking Coruscant again or something. She didn't have time to keep up with the latest Empire drama.

Ronhar paused for a moment as he considered his reply. Granted, their wasn't a whole lot stopping him from just taking everything by force, as the Fool's Errand was currently fully equipped with squadrons of both starfighters and bombers. That being said, Ronhar did plan on coming back to this world in the near future, and he'd rather not be shot at when he returned if he could help it.

Still, he didn't have a huge amount of Underworld Credits on him at the moment. This girl was rather young: perhaps that would translate into a bit of naivety. He decided he would take that gamble.

Ronhar removed the datepad that was hanging off his blast vest and tossed it to the girl, while saying:

"My, my, someone doesn't know the value of what they've brought with them. If you cannot quote me on a price, then perhaps you can at least tell me what you'd like to trade for."

Without even looking to see if she had even caught the datapad, Ronhar then turned to the tall Twi'lek and began browsing her wares.

She had a number of antique items like the rest of the merchants, but something in particular caught Ronhar's rather discerning eyes.

It was a Gamorrean Bobble Head, something that Ronhar had never seen before. Ronhar picked the item up and gave it a flick: the bobble head obligingly sprang back and forth for a few seconds.

Ronhar turned to the vendor, with bobble head still in his hand.

"You, Twi'lek. This bobble head amuses me greatly. How much for it?"

Ronhar could already see it mounted on the dashboard of his Y-Fender. He had to acquire this bobble head at all costs!

Tilon happily took the deal and transferred the UCs. As further trade unfolded among Rayne, Lucy Laccarr Lucy Laccarr , and Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane , Tilon ran diagnostics and admin codes on the two B-1 droids with his datapad, then activated them and introduced himself.

They needed names and a pair of names came to mind immediately: Daella and Diana.

He excused himself, thanked Rayne, and headed out into the gentle drizzle with the droids in tow. Diana proved very useful for carrying the backpack with the hyperdrive inside. Not a bad day's barter at all.

Upon seeing the Palladium Fusion Core working as intended, Lucy felt confident enough to make the trade. She grabbed two of her shield guantlets walking over to hand them to the Twi'lek. "There you go, a pleasure trading with you. Hopefully you be able to catch more things that fancy you today. I know how selling scrap can be difficult some days." They were kind words of encouragement but mostly, Lucy wanting to part on friendly terms with the Twi'lek if possible. It would be bad if she got a horrible reputation on this world for her bartering tactics.
"My, my, someone doesn't know the value of what they've brought with them. If you cannot quote me on a price, then perhaps you can at least tell me what you'd like to trade for."

Then she turned back to the Imperial, holding the Palladium Fusion Core, in her hand. She rolled eyes at his statement but continued this conversation nonetheles. "I do not want any Imperial goods. The reason why I ask how much because I want to know if you brought anything of value, that being credits. I have a price in mind, but I want to know much you're willing to pay first. After all, you won't be the only one interested in my droids."

Ronhar bit the bottom of his lip in annoyance, though no one present could tell through his Reflec-coated Stormtrooper Helmet. It seemed that she wanted to play Huttball with Ronhar after all. So be it. The BX-Commando droids would certainly be a nice catch, but they were really more of an afterthought for Ronhar.

What he really wanted was the Droideka.

Droidekas were already quite scarce as was, and despite his best efforts, he couldn't find a single model of the droid on Mahporeem. It wasn't for a lack of trying: Ronhar must have scoured every scrap field and junkyard on the planet, and he still couldn't find what he was looking for.

Yet, his personal fund of Underworld Credits was still rather low, and he doubted that he could fully afford such a droid, even one as old and ancient as the girl was selling.

Still, he had to try.

"My oh my, if you cannot recognize the value of Imperial goods, then you are more of a fool than I initially thought", Ronhar snarled at the girl. "But very well, if you must insist upon a price, I shall provide you with one. You'd best not get offended.

For the BX-Commando droids, I would offer you a total of 2,000 Underworld Credits. For the Droideka, I would not go a credit over 4,000...and that is assuming that the droid's deflector shields are fully intact and operational. Perhaps a demonstration might be in order?

Of course, if you find my generous offer to low, I would be willing to part with some of the goods I've brought aboard my support ship, the MIN Fool's Errand. But please, by all means, continue to hold out for Underworld Credits. Maybe you could purchase yourself a half decent set of clothes", Ronhar remarked as he glanced over her Ghorman-made bomber jacket.

It was actually quite a nice design, but Ronhar would never admit that part out loud. After all, his goal was to make the young merchant angry enough that she would swap her droids for his physical goods instead of Underworld Credits. If she decided to walk away instead...well, their were plenty more vendors on Bracca where she came from.

Again, not waiting to hear her reply, Ronhar turned back to the Twi'lek woman to hear the price she wanted for the bobblehead.

Typical, Imperial bravado. Lucy just sighed as she shook her head, letting the snide remarks roll off of her. Even though internally, she really wanted to at least punch the Imperial. But no, not today. There will be other days where she can get into firefight with an Imperial lapdog. For now she simply gave another fake smile. "I'm afraid you have forgotten your manners, good sir. You don't insult the merchant you're trying to buy from. That's just bad business. Especially when you're on a planet your government has no authority over. You can try your Imperial intimidation tactic on someone else. I bid you a good day."

It took alot for Lucy to be nice. Way too much faking it. But she simply pushed her holocart down the market, in search of other vendors. But she did wave goodbye to Rayne Lo'to Rayne Lo'to before continuing down her path.

Well, that was some business. She'd hopefully be able to capitalize on all of this later. Just as she tucked away the shield gauntlets in her walker, the Imperial and the purple one got into a spat, the blue fellow already having departed. The young woman wasn't having the imperial's attitude, and she departed. Rayne sat their awkwardly for a moment before speaking through her vocoder.

"Bobblehead is 50 UCs..." Rayne stated.

She wasn't going to be as picky with stupid little trinkets like that. Better to just get him to leave her stall like that, she reasoned.

Rayne wasn't fond of imperials either, but credits were the priority for her right now.

Ronhar arched his eyebrows in surprise at the Twi'lek's statement...and the voice that she had said that statement in. Rather than simply talking to Ronhar, she had instead used a vocoder to talk for her. Perhaps she had suffered throat damage for some reason? After all, it wouldn't surprise Ronhar to meet someone suffering from the environmental issues on a planet like Bracca.

Or perhaps she had suffered some sort of trauma that left her unable to speak? Again, it wouldn't surprise Ronhar in the slightest: the galaxy could be a cruel, unforgiving place at times.

He knew that better than anyone.

Unconsciously flexing his cybernetic limbs, he reached into his blast vest and pulled out 50 Underworld Credits.

"Very well. I accept your terms."

As he waited for the Twi'lek to finish the transaction, he couldn't help but notice the strange vehicle she had presumably come in.

The legs were definitely from an AT-AT, but the rest of the vehicle...

"Hey Twi'lek, were you the one who modified that piece of Imperial property? I've never seen anything like it before. We have our own variants of the AT-AT on Mahporeem, but nothing like that. How long did it take you to make it? Where did you find all the parts for it?"

Ronhar had to stop himself from going off on an engineering tangent. He was being rude, he realized, as he hadn't even asked the Twi'lek girl her name.

"Pardon me, but I suppose I should ask you your name. You may call me Captain Tane of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant."
