STRENGTHS
  • Command Ship - The GADF Nightdragon-class was designed and is intended to be utilized in the command of vast flotillas, providing its command staff with sweeping views of an engagement and ensuring they have the tools at which to maneuver and command multiple Capital Ships and their attached Squadrons.
  • Planetary Assault - The scope of the capabilities and the size of its hangar capacity have resulted in a Battlecruiser that is capable of carrying a full Division along with modular garrisons to be used in securing a beachhead or consolidating gains.
  • Breacher Ordnance - These specialized weapons are unique to the Chiss and were first developed by them. They are known to produce an acidic glob upon impact with an enemy after detonation, in turn, this glob is capable of eating the hull plating of a vessel, potentially leaving it vulnerable to follow-up fire.
  • Heavy Armaments - Each GADF Nightdragon-class is equipped with a multitude of heavy armaments and a vast array of weapon systems with which it can bring destruction to bear upon an enemy vessel.
WEAKNESSES
  • Command Bridge - To ensure that the Command Staff retained a full view of the field of battle during an engagement, the bridge of the vessel is located at a higher elevation than seen in previous designs of Imperial era Capital Ships. The precarious location of the Command Bridge opens it to be easily damaged or destroyed, which would have catastrophic results, either crippling the vessel or resulting in its loss of control.
  • Sluggish - The GADF Nightdragon-class was not designed to be a fast and nimble vessel, with its heavier armor plating and multiple defense systems resulting in a slow-moving vessel that can be easily overtaken by Interceptors or Capital Ships designed to focus on speed.
  • Ungainly - Just as the Battlecruiser was not designed for speed, nor was it designed for its maneuverability. Even adjusting its course or heading requires time and distance to properly execute such a small and simple maneuver as turning left.
  • XX-9 Safety Feature - A known safety feature of the targeting computers installed in these weapons is that they lock up when they traverse below the horizon. A feature that is intended to prevent the weapon from accidentally firing on the ground (or into the ship) when targetting enemies. Unfortunately, this provides enemy starfighters an advantage by flying low under the weapon's firing arc.
  • Hangar Entry Points - The hangar bays, though heavily defended, can still be easily accessed due to their locations along the ventral section of the vessel. This can result in enemy craft landing within the hangar bays or causing damage to internal systems by firing into the bays, potentially crippling the vessel.
  • Limited Numbers - The size and complexity of this vessel have resulted in a very limited production. As such, only a dozen of these Battlecruisers are known to currently exist.
DESCRIPTION
The largest of the Chiss Man-of-War classes and seemingly the most deadly of the three has awoken from its slumber and clawed its way out of its den. With the destruction of Csilla and a promise that no such tragedy will befall the Chiss people again, the GADF Nightdragon-class was born and unleashed upon the galaxy to lead the Chiss in their recovery. These warships were designed with the focus of providing Fleet Commanders the capability to easily direct and maneuver larger fleet formations whilst also providing them with a sweeping view of a conflict. This was accomplished in the design of its command bridge, located atop a large superstructure similar to Imperial era Star Destroyers. However, this added the unfortunate drawback of placing the command bridge in a precarious location to be more easily damaged, potentially crippling the vessel and preventing its continued operation. As a means to attempt to counteract this, additional defensive systems and heavier armor platting were installed throughout the Capital Ship, resulting in a heavier defense rating at the cost of speed and maneuverability.

Though more than capable of withstanding a withering salvo of weapon fire from an enemy, it is known to move slowly as if lumbering through space. Likewise, it was not designed with maneuverability in mind, and even the simplest of maneuvers take time and distance to fully execute properly. A further attempt to mitigate some of the issues that the GADF Nightdragon-class is known to experience comes from its vast hangar bays and the large capacity of squadrons it can ferry and deploy into a conflict. As such, it is capable of deploying eight full Starfighter Wings - each organized with three squadrons per wing - as well as five full squadrons of Support Craft. Its secondary role is that of Planetary Assault Carrier, and the Nightdragon-class is known to be able to carry a full Division as well as multiple modular garrisons.

Unfortunately, this added capability to ferry multiple squadrons has resulted in an unattended drawback focused on its hangar bays, which are so numerous, that even though they are defended heavily, they are still easily accessible. This can result in enemy vessels boarding, or internal damage being rendered to the vessel with a lucky shot or daring pilot entering the hangar bay. Drawbacks aside, the beast that is the GADF Nightdragon-class is more than capable of showing the Galaxy that the Chiss are still just as strong as they were prior to the destruction of Csilla, or at the very least, they will not willingly go silently into the night.
