DESCRIPTION |
The smallest of the Chiss Man-of-War class though no less ferocious or lacking fangs in their own right compared to their larger brethren. The development, production, and deployment of the GADF Firewolf-class comes at a time when the Chiss as still recovering from the losses handed to them by the Brotherhood of the Maw and represent the start of a cultural shift away from older ways of thinking; where a preemptive strike may be the very thing needed to prevent a situation from escalating further, rather than waiting for the attack to come first and responding in kind. Designated as a Heavy Cruiser, its primary role is to assist in battering down an enemy's defenses and cutting through a line of battle, all the while withstanding the punishment it would receive from being in the thickest of fighting during an engagement. Ensuring that the vessel survives was the primary focus of the design, with additional retrofitting and redesigns providing the skills and capabilities that the craft has shown during the final testing stages before production. Outfitted with a heavier armament than a standard Cruiser, additional armor plating was installed along the hull to strengthen the vessel, whilst further defensive measures were installed as well. This inclusion of additional defensive measures and a heavier armament of weaponry, however, has resulted in the near lack of hangar capacity as many of these systems have taken up much of the internal sections of the vessel. This has resulted in the near lack of squadron support as the vessel is only capable of deploying a singular Starfighter Squadron and often must rely heavily on Dedicated Carriers for additional support as needed. Though largely following the design aspects of the Chiss, the GADF Firewolf-class does show a hint of Hapan influence in the design due to the location of its Drive System. The ease with which access can be gained to this system means that it can be damaged, potentially crippling the Cruiser. Likewise, many of its armaments are arrayed along the dorsal section of the vessel, resulting in the ventral section being lightly armed and protected against attack. However, even with these drawbacks, the vessel is more than capable of fulfilling its intended purpose, a Heavy Cruiser meant to punch through the enemy and unleash chaos from within. |
