Faction GA Senate Committee on Finance - Humanitarian Aid

CORUSCANT CONFERENCE ROOM ASSIGNED TO THE FINANCE COMMITTEE

The committee had not selected a chair, yet, so Maldor took it upon himself to stand at the end of the luxurious table in the luxurious Senatorial conference room. Outside, the view of Coruscant was splendid. He had not quite become accustomed to it, yet. It seemed that the Senatorial building had been designed so that every office and every space of note had a spectacular view of the eternal city.

Maldor smoothed his red silk robes of office and then gestured across towards Senator Laborr.

"This session of the Finance Committee has been called together to consider the matter of humanitarian aid to systems impacted by the wars with the Enclave.

Before we begin, we should probably vote on a chair for the committee. It is virtually undeniable that Senator Laborr has the most knowledge of trade and finance, considering his constituency. I propose that he fill the position of chair. Will anyone second the nomination?"

Maldor looked at the others gathered here. He hoped that his proposal of placing Laborr as chairman of the committee would ingratiate him to the man, because at the end of the day very little could be accomplished without his powerful trade faction.

Maldor Mecetti was not a name that Erick Pryde was familar with, nonetheless he respected the man's chutzpah. For a recently elected Senator to call a major organ of the Federal Assembly to order was a rare display of audacity that intrigued Pryde. Regrettably for Maldor, this audacious act marked the extent of Pryde's admiration for him.

To call the Finance Committee to order was one thing, but nominating a new Chair was another entirely.

Erick was willing to concede Maldor's point. The Finance Committee was in fact in need of new leadership, and any conversation regarding humanitarian aid would have to be grounded by rules, rules that only a Chairbeing could implement and adjudicate properly. A Chairbeing was not just a good idea, it was a nessecary one and there was no reason why the Finance Committee, assembled in full, couldn't take the deliberate speed nessecary to make the proper choice to who that should be.

Erick Pryde didn't need any time to realize that the proper person for the job was not Rulonom Laborr Rulonom Laborr .

His eservations about Rulonom Laborr extended beyond concerns about his qualifications; they delved into a deeper ideological divide. Pryde, a staunch nationalist with isolationist tendencies, viewed Laborr's background as a business insider with skepticism. In Pryde's eyes, Laborr's allegiance leaned more towards the Trade Federation than the Galactic Alliance, a perspective that didn't align with Pryde's own convictions.

To Pryde, the potential appointment of Laborr as the Chairbeing of the Finance Committee raised red flags regarding the committee's direction. Laborr's ties to the business world, especially one as entwined with the Trade Federation's interests, suggested a prioritization of profit over the welfare of the Galactic Alliance's citizens. Pryde, a vocal opponent of the free trade deals synonymous with the Trade Federation's influence, feared that Laborr might advocate for policies that prioritized corporate interests at the expense of the broader goals and values of the Galactic Alliance.

Turning to the assembled members of the Finance Committee, Pryde spoke with conviction, "Ladies and gentlemen, I hold deep respect for the accomplishments of Rulonom Laborr in the business world. However, in these crucial times, we require a leader who embodies the spirit and principles of the Galactic Alliance. Laborr's extensive ties to the Trade Federation raise concerns about potential conflicts of interest that could compromise our commitment to the well-being of our citizens. We must prioritize a Chairbeing whose allegiance lies solely with the Galactic Alliance, ensuring that our financial strategies align with our core values, rather than succumbing to the pressures of external entities. The citizens we serve deserve nothing less than a leader who will champion their interests above all else."

Profits Above All Else...

Four simple words combined to formulate an exemplary motto for the current iteration of the Trade Federation of Planets underneath the esteemed leadership of Gat Tambor as they continued to expand beyond planetary boundaries to encompassed entire star systems through strongarm tactics even if they were starting to fall behind with the introduction of the Galactic Tiers System. This was rather unsettling news to the investors and shareholders of the various corporations serving underneath the umbrellas of the Federation and as such new ways of thinking would have to be introduced to remain the cream of the crop and compete against the InterGalactic Banking Clan and the Commerce Guild. The reintroduction of the Political Committees of the Senate was a sign that things were moving in said direction even though the current finance committee was quite small and inadequate to serve the immense superpower that was the galactic alliance.

Senator Maldor Mecetti Maldor Mecetti was the first to speak amongst them addressing the concerns of humanitarian aide to the worlds affected by the Mandalorian Enclave's swift but premature attack. However the more pressing matter would be to elect a chair amongst their members to formulate the proper agenda for further meetings moving forward. The Skakoan Minister was rather surprised that the Senator Mecetti put his name forward for chairmanship of finance with the sole reason being that when it came to expertise in regards to currency there was none wiser or more qualified than himself naturally.

Senator Erick Pryde Erick Pryde was naturally opposed to this nomination for personal reasons no doubt trying to embarrass the Minister and score some pity points in the senate. The Trade Federation had supported the alliance for several decades and there would potentially be conflicts of interest but such bold accusations required proof which the senator had none. Simply conjecture....So the senator wanted to portray himself as a people's man who would serve the alliance incorruptly but such noble concepts could so easily be twisted once they obtained certain powers and privileges.

"AWWWWWEEEEEERRRRRRROOOOOOOO......I very much appreciate your nomination, Senator Mecetti. However this is hardly the time to engage in appointments of chairs when the alliance and its people are suffering from a war is it not. Let us redirect focus our energy on enacting policy's as a unified front. I'm sure even if we have different approaches to certain 'areas of importance' that we can benefit all parties involved.." The Minister said with a simple glance over to Senator Erick Pride wanting to deny him the position of chairmanship but electing to focus on actual policy instead of agenda chairman. He was greedy and jealous of others wealth but he was no fool in the game of politics.

Maldor shrugged and held out his hands expansively.

"Obulette has no objections to an informal session, if all parties are in agreement that the matter of Chairperson can be tabled for another day."

He looked to Erick.

"Senator Pryde. I appreciate your concerns about prioritization, and rest assured, I think we are in harmony on that issue. It is a regrettable but true facet of war that someone will profit from it." He gave a significant glance to Rulonom.

"Aid supplies have to be manufactured or replaced. Aid vehicles constructed or maintained. Shipments made in massive quantities. Construction of buildings, and the employment of personnel to carry it out. The Trade Federation, and to a lesser degree other industry groups, have the necessary equipment, personnel, and expertise to lend.

They are not adversaries in the aid effort, but valued allies. And a modest profit will keep the economies of the galaxy humming healthily along."

He smiled at Erick, "Wouldn't you agree?"
