Freedom for an Experiment (Circe)

Dreya Shynn

I study the garment Circe holds out before me. It is a silky white dress that would reach to my knees. I take it gratefully, quickly slipping it on as I let the towl slide to the floor. "Thank you," I say with a small smile. With that settled, i begin thinking about my shaping abilities. "What would you like me to show you first?" I ask.

"Whichever one you feel most comfortable with." She smiled, looking the young woman over and considering the power that this experiment of Kaine's likely had. She was eager to see this shaping - it intrigued her as a new concept.

I nod once. The easiest that comes to mind is water. I remember the feeling. I can feel the liquids around me, almost like they are a part of me. Using this feeling, I manage to form a sphere of water that I can hold in my hands. I show this to Circe.

"I'm impressed." She raised an eyebrow. "Not only were you able to adequately manipulate the water, you were also able to manifest it. Whether through the creation of it through molecular reassembly or through extrusion from your body, I don't know. What I do know is that it's extraordinary. Hydrokinesis is a rare ability."

I smile a little. "Thank you," I say. I let the ball of water become water droplets once more ad return to the air. Next, I hone in on my air-shaping. I move my hands in a spinning motion. I picture my body as a hollow chamber, filled with gale-force winds. I call out to the air, so still around me, and send a short gust of it toward Circe.

The gust sent Circe back a good couple of feet, not to mention blew her hair around in a cluster of various directions. Licking her palm, she managed to somewhat straighten it out, getting herself properly situated with it. "There we go. Again, quite impressive. Now, what else can you do?"

She smiled, knowing there were at least two more things to do.

I allow the hollow feeling to leave my body. I replace that feeling with a deep, spreading heat. I picture fire filling my being, burning out all else. With this in mind, I drive the flames to my hands, and produce to fireballs for Circe to see.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Circe admittedly shied back a bit when she saw the fireballs. "You'll have to excuse me, darling... My horticultured nature isn't exactly a fan of fire. I suppose that leaves us two elements left... Show me what you can do with earth."

This part was going to be fun.

I extinguish the fireballs. I look about the room. There is a small vase containing a single flower on the table. I take the flower in my hand. I can feel the life inside it, knowing that it will fade faster because it can no longer grow. I hold it so that its cut end was touching my palm. Then, I coax the life inside the flower to expand and grow. The flower begins getting taller. roots sprout from it, wrapping around my hand. The bloom gets brighter and opens widely, secreting a sweet scent. I hold the flower out for Circe to see.

Smiling, Circe looks at the flower with a soft smile on her face. "You can appreciate the base nature of beauty. I must say, that's something I didn't expect. Then again, you are a beautiful creature, my daughter. One day, a loving man will be pleased to take you as his wife." She smiled, thinking about the future and what it would bring for Dreya and the others.

I smile. I have not thought of relationships like that before. I relinquish my grasp on the flower's growth, and it returns to its original state. Placing it back in the vase, I look at Circe curiously. "So what now......Mother?" I ask carefully.

"Now... I'm going to need your help. I'm looking to establish factories in former Sith space, and I'm going to need your help to do so. Can you help me do that, darling?" Circe gave a wonderfully eloquent smile as she gently moved to take the hand of the young woman. "If I may ask, Dreya - are you capable of changing your skin coloration?"

I look down at my hand in hers. "No. My Creator...He gave up on me before I could learn anything more about the Shift." My eyes sadden slightly. After everything the Creator put me through, all the torture, the testing, the training...... It was for nothing. He didn't want me in the end. He had said that I'd "failed". Before the Destruction, I was afraid of what would happen to me. The ones that the Creator didn't like were always taken away in the middle of the night. They never came back. A hint of fear vibrates through my chest at the memory. What would he have done to me if the Destruction had never happened?

"You aren't a failure, Dreya." She smiled, moving to embrace the young woman, running her hands over the top of her wings. "You are more of a prototype. Special, not elaborated upon, but still amazing. With the Empire crumbling, he just didn't have the time to finish with you. But I do. And if you want to learn how to shift appearances, I will show you. I too am capable of the ability, though to much less of a degree than Shi'ido or Clawdites."

She gave a soft smile as she peered deep into the young woman's eyes. "Close your eyes and focus on looking likeme. Try to change the color of your skin from its current pale tan to a rich jungle green."

I do as Circe asks. I can see myself, a rich and deep green. It is strange to me, but not unimaginable. I believe I can feel my skin changing. I open my eyes to see that I am now a light green, still glowing slightly. "How's this?" I ask her.

"You look... gorgeous." She ran a hand over the young woman, feeling over her body - yep, she was full scale green alright. It was pretty amazing how the Clawdite in her flesh allowed her a minor degree of appearance shifting. "Though I do wonder how your wings integrate with the rest of your body."

After all, they only slightly appeared to change color.

Truthfully, I do not know what to tell her. The Creator never told me how I could do something, only that I could in fact do it. I shrug. "I don not know," I say to Circe.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Circe smiled, moving in and giving her daughter a hug. "But where's the fifth element?" Raising an eyebrow, she pointed out that one was lacking. "Fire, water, earth, air... Where is spirit?"

That was... intriguing. Did Kaine even get to that?

I look at Circe, puzzled. Spirit? I have never heard of it, let alone used it. "What do you mean?" I ask her.
@[member="Circe Savan"]

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Circe paused. "Well... let me explain." She smiled. "See, all entities have a spirit. Consider it our soul, our energy that gives our body a personality, makes it distinct from all the others. Many things can be done with spirit energy. Such techniques as "Drain Life" and "Transfer Essence" are based upon the manipulation of spirit energy. You are lacking the fifth point in the pentastar."

She stroked the woman's wings. "But it's okay. Don't worry about it."
