OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Intent: To create a highly advanced sensor array for the First Order Security Bureau’s stealth ships.
Restricted Missions: N/A.
Primary Source: N/A.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: First Order Security Bureau, Special Projects Division.
Model: Ranging, Detection, Identification -- Version 65. Ultra-Long-Range Radio Sensor Array.
Affiliation: First Order, First Order Security Bureau.
Modularity: No
Production: Semi-Unique
Material:

 • Durasteel Frame

 • Sensors (Long-range Repulsor Sensor, UV/IR/X-ray Sensor, Long Range Directional Transceiver, Radio Transceiver, Radio Encrypter/Decrypter.)

 • Gold wiring with Armourweave insulation.

 • Titanium bolts/pins/rivets.

 • Electrical components.
SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Long Range Sensors: As one of the most sophisticated sensor arrays in the First Order’s hands, the RDI-65 uses sensitive antennas and powerful software to detect and decrypt subspace-radio messages over long distances.

 • Automatic Transmission Encrypter: A system that scrambles incoming and outgoing messages, so that they can only be read using the correct key.

 • Transmission Tracker: Using sensors only a few millimetres apart, the sensor array can precisely triangulate the direction a message originated from. The strength of the signal can also be used to roughly calculate the distance from the source.

 • Audio Analyser: For incoming voice messages, the sensor array detects the individual sound profiles for each message and separates them in order to isolate particular noises. This can be used to figure out what kind of ship sent the message.

 • Frequency Jammer: Using a boosted signal, the RDI-65 can jam low power outgoing transmissions within a 50km radius. However, while jamming, the sensor array cannot receive any messages.

 • Locked Frequency: For a limited time, the RDI-65 can use electrical countermeasures to prevent a particular frequency from being jammed. This is done so by destructively interfering with the signal from the jamming device. This requires a great deal of power, and can only be done for short periods.

 • Emergency Pings: The sensor array is capable of emitting hugely powerful subspace pings, to be used to alert ships to its presence in times of emergency.

 • Redundant System: In the event of an EMP or Ion weapon attack that disables the main array, the RDI-65 has a low power radio system that is shielded against such attacks, but doesn’t have the same specialised features as the main array.

 • Variable Signal Hijacker: Thanks to code embedded within each transmission sent by the array, each transmission can move large distances by moving from sensor to sensor on unprotected ships. This only works for civilian ships, which have no electronic defences against such an attack.

 • Long Range Passive/Active Subspace-Radar System.
Strengths:

 • Long Ranged: Able to detect and decrypt messages over large distances.

 • Frequency Jammer/Lock: Can secure a frequency to prevent jamming for short periods, and also act as a jammer itself.

 • Sniffer Dog: A pair of antennas on the array can be used to calculate the distance and direction of the received signal.

 • Piggyback: The signal from the sensor hijacks the radio equipment of civilian ships to transmit messages across huge distances.

 • The Password is “Password:” Each message in and out of the array is encrypted. The correct key is needed to decode each transmission.
Weaknesses:

 • Double edged sword: When the Jamming system is activated, the sensor array is unable to receive any messages.

 • Delicate: The array is unable to sustain much fire, and relies on shielding from its host ship to prevent critical damage.

 • Firewall: A critical weakness in the array’s computer system leaves a hole in the security system, which can be hacked in order to spoof a subpace-radar signal, or the location of a transmission.

DESCRIPTION
The second advancement of Project Nebula, the RDI-65 Ultra-Long-Ranged Sensor Array was designed by the First Order Security Bureau to be deployed on any of the multitude of listening posts, stealth ships, and covert FOBs scattered around the dark, forgotten corners of the galaxy. The RDI-65 was needed to cater for the long-range operations that were becoming more and more frequent as the FOSB’s methods became more and more aggressive. With increased activity in hostile space, a secure solution was needed to maintain communication with operatives and their mission leads. To allow this, the RDI-65 was developed, a prototype system the likes of which the Bureau had never seen, that would allow encrypted communication over vast distances.
