First Reply Foolish Decisions, Stumbling Lost

This was a bad decision but Kat was on a string of bad decisions and she figured that another one tacked on wouldn't do any harm to her. Lily had provided the location of the temple to Kat years ago, when she first shifted to Naboo. Hoping the drunken heartbroken healer would come to offer the training and help that Kat could provide. However, Kat was far too stubborn and resistant to the idea that she would simply come running when her niece called, just because she was without a goal. But since Manaan, Lily's offer seemed far more tempting and Kat figured that she was in the area anyway so what harm could there be in checking out what these Jedi were up to.

Who knows, she might stumble into one that could use her help with a job? The fancy Naboo Jedi had to have decent amounts of credits for work. They lived like they did at least.

Drinking from the flask that she had on her person. Kat looked at the ramp with a heavy sigh, stubborn reluctance burned under her skin to just turn around and leave. Lily didn't know she would be here and it wasn't like she wanted to be a Jedi again. That path was something she never thought herself right for again. Kat's priorities were never the Jedi, nor the cause. It was individuals. It was people she loved. That had always been what drove Kat the most. Finishing the flask, she tipped it and shook it. Making sure the flask was properly empty. Throwing the empty flask back in the ship, Kat stepped down the ramp and onto the temple's hangar bay ground.

"Fuck it." Kat muttered to herself as she combed her fingers through her hair as she stumbled a little as she wandered through the Jedi temple. Curious to see what was going to be happening in this temple but also curious to see who would be about. News about the Jedi were not suggesting there were going to be many roaming around. It was kind of hilarious in a dark, depressing way how things fell down a dark hole for herself as well as the Jedi. "Maybe the Jedi as a whole need to embrace some drinking..." Kat laughed to herself as she walked.

He'd just been returning to Shiraya's Sanctuary, himself. The X-Wing he flew was no longer both home and transport, and as much as staying in a temple wasn't meant to be a permanent situation, getting out had become, for various reasons, less of a priority. He could live with the ways it got to him, the limitations his own beliefs placed on him, when duty pulled him away often enough.

Shrugging the rest of the way into his jacket as he passed another arrival, he was intent on heading to the quarters that had been his for more than a year, but something the Echani said to herself — why would she be talking to him, anyway? — caused Rik to slow his stroll and look at her. Really look, and consider that she wasn't like any Echani he had ever met. Particularly not with the attitude she was packin'.

Not that he'd ever met that many Echani.

"Some of us do," he replied, nonchalantly; then, with a firm, yet conspiratorial whisper, "but not here."

And he knew that wasn't just him that took it elsewhere. But was drink embraced by most? He couldn't say. Very individual decision, like it was for anyone, and he didn't know everyone.

Kat stumbled a bit, hearing someone's voice speak to her. There was a look of surprise and confusion, did someone hear her thoughts? Had she spoken aloud again when meaning to just have internal thoughts? "Well, clearly you aren't doing it right then. This is a great place to get drunk at." Kat countered loudly, still not sure who she was speaking with. Turning around slowly, she spotted the owner to the mysterious voice that called out to her, pointing her two index fingers at him, "aha! Found ya!"

As if the man had been trying to hide himself from Kat.

"Probably liven the place up if you added in a bar or two. Solid location to decompress and enjoy the views. I mean some of the views from this temple, they gotta be stellar with a drink in hand. And heading into Theed to drink and then attempting that climb all the way back... Be sober by the time you get home and where's the fun in that?" Kat argued as she took a couple of steps, with a drunken sway towards Rik. "My two credits on the matter anyways..."

Scratching the back of her head, "say, you Jedi types got any need for a merc/smuggler? My name's Kat... Just Kat." She didn't want to mention the surname, Lily was a good kid from what Kat remembered and she didn't want to drag her niece down with her. Best to just pretend she was unrelated. "Just finished a job and need some more credits and you guys look like you have a decent amount locked up here." Waving her hand at how ridiculously fancy and exuberant the temple looked.

The finger guns only made one corner of his mouth rise. He hadn’t been trying to hide himself from anything or anyone.

But as she continued to unravel her opinion about the temple’s lack of drinking facilities — which he didn’t at all agree with, and didn’t dignify with an answer — he watched her gait, and it became clear she was one of any number of colourful words he’d picked up over the years that all meant the same thing: drunk.

He had his own opinions about the exuberance, but he kept those to himself. Gilded or austere, a Jedi temple was a Jedi Temple and was therefore sacred, in his mind. There were rules he lived by, whenever within a temple’s confines, a matter of respect and maintaining the Jedi soul, instilled by his late master.

Sobriety on sacred grounds being one of them.

When that soused swaying soon brought her in his direction, he didn’t even so much as dodge, but he sure got a whiff of what she’d been punishing her liver with. He wasn’t bothered that some Jedi did drink in the temple: he was no evangelist, but he’d sure as hell try to instill his values and beliefs in his students.

You Jedi types?” He parroted, mildly amused at being categorised like that, “I’m not…” but she carried right on, giving her name, and he landed on doing the same. “I’m Rik… just Rik.

He could give his surname, but fair’s fair.

I figure that’s what happens, knowing who commissioned this place,” he wasn’t going to elaborate, and he continued on, first a little needling with a mild grin, "people get all kinds of perceptions," before answering her question, “I don’t think the Order’s in the business of employing mercs.” He gave a casual shrug. “But I don’t run the place.

She caught the question aired with the parroting of what she said, it caused Kat to raise an eyebrow. He seemed like a Jedi, there was the judgemental air around him about her drunkenness in this temple. Though, Kat could see just someone being pompous like that without having to be a Jedi. "Just Rik. Sure. Cool. Well, Just Rik, I gotta find someone who is more official for this business then. Important stuff and bargaining with the Jedi when sober is such a dull affair!" Kat bemoaned.

"Well, first impressions are lasting impressions, the Jedi built a temple all the way out here, remote. Super lavish and fancy. Makes people think the Jedi are super out of touch with the rest of the galaxy. Why should they listen to the Jedi when they don't know hardships? When they get to live exotic, lavishly comfortable lives compared to most who can barely scrape two credits together and fear for their lives because war could break out at any moment." Kat stated, showing there was some soberness to her thinking, the drink not completely taking over her mind.

Breathing in deeply, "you sure you ain't a Jedi... Feeling like just in your presence is harshing my buzz like a Jedi would..." Kat's eyes narrowed to him in a joking manner. "As for the Order not needing mercenaries and smugglers, well, my dear friend, you would be wrong there. Smugglers and mercenaries can get to locations the Jedi cannot, Blackwall destinations, in particular. Or just Sith territory in general. We hold a wealth of information that these pompous Jedi lot forget."

"Also, I got several crates of kolto, figured that someone in charge around here would really like to buy some before it goes bad."
