Flint's Training (with Marek S'hadar)

Flint walked into one of the training rooms within the Jedi Temple. He had been informed that a Jedi Knight had agreed to mentor him. Flint's mentors changed from time to time, which was understandable as in these times more and more Jedi were going on missions, and only a handful had spared some time to train apprentices.

Noting that his mentor was not currently present in the room, Flint sat down in the center of the room and began to meditate, doing so until his to-be-mentor arrived at the training room.

Why had he agreed to do this exactly? A former Sith wasn't the greatest master in his opinion, but Cale said his mentor had in fact once been a dark lady of the Sith. So he had convinced by his brother to mentor some boy named Flint. Entering the chamber where Dexen waited, S'hadar crossed his arms.

"Flint Dexen?" He asked, looking to the meditating boy before him. Marek envied the calm he had while awaiting such a moment. He had been insanely nervous while awaiting the arrival of his second master, the first had raised him essentially, and betrayed him. That was why he was dead.

After a few minutes, a Jedi Knight entered the room. His new mentor, Flint presumed him to be. The man appeared overall to be a strong and capable individual, an aura of power radiaing from him. Yet there was something about the Jedi that made Flint feel slightly anxious.

However, Flint put on a friendly grin and nodded when the Jedi asked if he was Flint Dexen. "Yep, nice to meet you." said Flint, outstretching his right arm for a handshake. "And you are..."

He stared at the hand momentarily, before shaking it quickly. Marek wasn't a very touchy individual. "Marek." He answered, leaving out his last name. It wasn't relevant and the boy @[member="Flint Dexen"] would learn it in time, but first he wanted to see what he was working with. Stepping back he tossed a training saber to the boy and beckoned for him to come at Marek. "Show me what I have to work with young padawan." He stated.

Flint could feel the man's hesitation before the handshake. He shrugged, then heard the man inrtoducing himself as Marek. No last name followed the name, but Flint decided he would find that out sooner or later. He caught a training lightsaber when the Jedi tossed it up into the air, activating it to show a cyan blade.

Flint nodded to the Jedi Knight's words, then ran towards the man. After running several feet, he lept into the air then brought down the blade in a downward strike.

Flipping the hilt of his training saber into a reverse grip, Marek ignited it. It produced a cobalt blade which he snapped up to catch the padawan's strike. Without missing a beat, his free hand shot into Flint's gut with a decent amount of force. Pain was an excellent teacher as he'd learned.

Flint knew that the opponent he faced was better trained and more experience than him. But that still didn't mean he couldn't try his best. His strike clashed with the Jedi Knight's cobalt blade, before the Jedi punched him in the guts. That hurt, quite a bit, to be truthful. Flint did his best to try and ignore the overwhelming pain, and moved forward to attack with a few more horizontal slashes.

He was impressed, most kinda just fell to the floor in pain, but @[member="Flint Dexen"] stood his ground and continued slashing at him. Marek countered these with parrys from his own blade. Then, to finish off his padawan, he spun three hundred and sixty degrees. Upon finishing the spin he hit Flint with a force push to the chest.

Flint kept his left hand massaging the spot where he had been punched. The punch had left black dots across his vision. Flint felt rather frustrated as his offense strikes did not make any progress as they were equally matched and parried away by the Jedi Knight's blades. He watched as the man spun around before he delivered a Force Push to his chest, making Flint fly away to the other side of the room and hit the wall before almost going unconscious. "Wow, nice one..." he gasped, attempting to stand up from his spot.

Walking over to the padawan with a blank expression he offered a hand to pull him to his feet. Marek was a duelist, it was what he was good at. Once he was done with @[member="Flint Dexen"], he would be quite proficient as well. Te only thing Marek couldn't teach him was the lessons which came with experience, those he would have to learn on his own, out in the real world and not in some temple.

"Thanks..." Flint muttered as the Jedi Knight helped him up to his feet. He could easily tell that the Jedi was a skilled duelist and bladesman, and was hopeful that he'd be learning a thing or two from the man. He looked up at the Jedi's blank expression, wondering when they would begin their training.

"What do you wish to learn first?" He asked, looking to @[member="Flint Dexen"] with the same look. Marek was doing his best to focus, but family matters had him very concerned and had his thoughts drifting elsewhere. As Flint would eventually lear, his master was one of a troubled past, and a really confusing family tree.

Flint listened to his master's question. "Hmm... maybe you should teach me a bit more on lightsaber combat before anything else." he suggested, giving a friendly grin.

"It would seem logical." He shrugged, stepping back. "What forms are you familiar with?" Marek asked. He could teach the boy Shien and Dejm So, other forms would pose more difficult to teach, but he could adapt he supposed. Oh, and he could instruct the boy on jar'kai techniques.

Flint nodded, then listened to the question. "I'm currently familiary with basic Shii-Cho. But I would love to learn other forms... like Djem So." he said, looking at the Jedi. Although it was hard to say that he had completely mastered Shii-Cho or anything close to it, he did have ambitions to learn other techniques as well.

"Good choice. I use a reverse grip with every form, so don't let that throw you off." Marek responded, tossing @[member="Flint Dexen"] his training saber again. Assuming a Djem So stance, Marek sunk his hips and spread his legs to shoulder length. "Do as I am now, stance is critical to getting the ball rolling." He instructed, looking to Flint and waiting for him to assume his stance.

Flint gave a quick nod to @[member="Marek S'hadar"], happy that the Jedi had agreed to train him the basics of Djem So. After carefully observing the stance that the Jedi took, Flint too assumed the stance, bending his knees, spreading his legs to shoulder length and holding his lightsaber in a ready position.

"The key is being more offensive minded." Marek stated, stepping forwards and launching a quick slash at the air, around gut level. Since he'd first held a blade, Marek had begun his battles the same way, with an attempt at bisecting his opponent, and it had worked on many occasions. Hopefully @[member="Flint Dexen"] would have similar success with his opening strike.

"Ah, got it." Flint said with a nod to @[member="Marek S'hadar"]. Keeping his current stance with knees bent, the Jedi Apprentice stepped forward similarly to how the Jedi Knight did, and made a quick slash with his lightsaber, his cyan blade flashing through the air infront of him. It certainly was an... offensive move to start out with, which could be a good thing in some situation in combat. "So like this?"

"Yes, good. Remember, if your first move is the last move of the fight, you're doing something right." Marek responded, observing the padawans move. He motioned for him to continue what he was doing. He needed to continue practicing a strong opener until it was nothing but muscle memory.
