Fishing for Work (Avril Crew/Lady Kay)

Akio Diachi

For it was All but a Dream
Akio let out a sigh of relief and retreated back to his quarters at the captain's orders. He wasn't the type to run from a fight--taking lives without a second thought was his life. However, social settings, especially humor, was enough to set him off into a cold sweat. It takes time, be patient. You will learn. You will overcome.

Akio saw [member="Semziru Nar"] and gave a slight bow. He was too preoccupied about getting into his armor and preparing for guard duty. The name [member="Lady Kay"] honestly sent a sense of mixed feelings. She had a large bounty on her head and his connection to the Hutts made the idea of cashing it in more than slightly appealing. The honor gained from working with [member="Strider Garon"] far outweighs the honor of cashing this bounty in. Besides, the others would stop it cold. Akio pocked the idea for later as he began the ritual of putting his battle armor on. His mind began going though possibilities. He pressed the ship's intercom from his room, "Master Garon, requesting permission to cover sniper and anti-sniper positions."

The ship shuddered violently under Akio's feet and he sighed inwardly. Death may greet us even before we reach the destination. He took a deep breath and tried to resume his trance-like state. Something told him that wouldn't be happening any time soon.

Well at least she had the right commlink this time. That would've been embarrassing. [member="Strider Garon"] 's voice was easily recognizable. And he sounded pleased, maybe even eager. That too was a good sign.

As Kay walked, yes walked, towards the ports, she took the time to contact one of her bodyguards, [member="Rex Power Colt"] to see if he was available. "Hey Rex, it's Kay. I'm back from a short trip and am meeting up with Strider Garon. If you can spare a few minutes, I'd like you to meet me there. I'm not expecting trouble, but I only know him by reputation and you just never know who else might be in the city. Thanks..."

Whether he was available or not, she sent Rex the co-ordinates to the port she was nearing. The shaking of metal and sputter of an engine was easily heard and as Kay saw the ship limp it's way to the port, she couldn't help but think that this meeting couldn't of come at a better time for him.

Kay stopped in the middle of the dock and waited, hands clasped in front of her. She wasn't dressed in anything special, just an upper class merchant dress. Several warehouses lined the dock as the trade business on Commenor was booming, so there was plenty of people milling about.

Thryykarr

Flying Wookiee.... WITH KNIVES!
Thryk gave a low growl of assent at Strider's order. Not only would he be in the spot that was the most likely to get some action, but he'd have Zandra there to watch his back. That was pretty good news, as well. It'd give him a change to gauge the crazy ninja kid and the other couple of young-looking people. He tugged on his mustache again. That was a fun little habit. Canine fangs showed as he grinned and began locking on the rest of his beskar'gam.

"Well, then... Guess my old kit's getting some use today. This stuff's got dents like my face's got gray."

That was saying a lot.

Striders order made the old Echani perk right up. Finally. She was getting bored. Her hand went to her weapons, the knives strapped to both thighs, the cortosis sword at her hip, the old blaster hidden away under Cals old leather jacket. No armor, but she did pull out a single fingerless leather glove to cover her one organic hand. It used to be a pair, but there really wasn't much of a need for two now.

"Well, furball," she said to [member="Thryykarr"], "just like the old days. 'Cept, I guess we ain't stealin' nothin' this time."

Flying Wookiee.... WITH KNIVES!
Thryk clicked his tongue as he set to cleaning his slugthrowers out. They weren't exactly in disrepair, but they certainly hadn't been in great condition in close to eight years. And, well, the reason he didn't have a ship of his own anymore wasn't something he was going to discuss in front of these people. Even Zandra would have to get him practically knocked-out drunk to hear that story. Anybody who'd seen him when he was younger would've probably noticed the burns and rust that scarred the chestplate of his armor, and how different it looked from before. But the big Wookiee simply bared his fangs in a grin at his old captain.

"Y'know how the line goes about assuming, Z."

Rex Power Colt was falling to the ocean while riding a killer whale. Don't ask why. riding a magnificent, manly pegasus trying to activate his parachute after ejecting from a faulty, cheap spaceship that had passed through local space phenomena. The spaceship was so cheap that it only came equipped with an old, wearable backpack parachute woven from Grandma's previously untrimmed nose hairs industrial military bed sheets from Japan, 1942 a North Korean sweat shop a bad linens company on Coruscant.

He pulled his chute and it released perfectly fine. That was a source of relief, but the ocean was now the immediate threat...Wait. Down below...a ship! He angled his chute and tried to aim his descent in the direction of the boat. Why was he here to begin with? That's right: [member="Lady Kay"], his most reliable source of income...his only source of income. Was it weird that he followed her around like some kind of dog? I don't know. Shut up. Oh well. He was in it for the credits. It was a nice bonus that Lady Kay was a nice person.

It was to his surprise and the power of Murphy's Law that the boat now began to rise up out of the water. It was moving in a way that he hadn't anticipated. He tried to compensate and land on the boat. However, he managed to miss the boat and instead become snared by his parachute to the boat's bow. Dangling in front of the ship like an ornament, Rex found it fitting to yell a loud and simple obscenity that involved petitioning God to immediately send something to Hell.

Akio finally completed the ceremony by sheathing his blade. The unreliable ship's tremors caused the tip to nick the edge of his finger. He grunted. Thankfully it was his right hand instead of left.

Akio gave his slug thrower rifle a cursory glance. It was archaic, cantankerous, and a relic in every sense of the word. Its scope was still even crafted from transparasteel lenses and durasteel without a hint of electronic modification. But it was also the only rifle he has used and he knew its quirks well.

Akio slung the worn rifle over his shoulder, screwed his ear comm peice in, and walked back to the commons area. Along the way he halted. It soulded like a male human had just uttered a string of expelatives. That couldn't be. Not at this altitude. He looked out the portal; something resembling a humanoid in a failing parachute was smeared on it.

"What peculiar local avians," Akio muttered as he continued on his way.

What in the world was that? [member="Rex Power Colt"] ? Coming down via a parachute? And now it had appeared that he was a living decoration on [member="Strider Garon"] 's ship. Oh boy. She did what she could to keep her composure and stop herself from putting her head in her hands. This was not quite the entrance that she had expected from her bodyguard, but there surely was a good reason for it.

As both the ship and Rex neared the port, she called out to him, "Well I can see that you've got my message!...Thanks for...dropping by!"

The old captain could feel the ship lift off from the water. She wasn't purring as gracefully as he would of liked but not even a magician of a mechanic such as Kayliegh could make such miracles a reality with the equipment at hand. They needed this job and a few more and invest heavily into the Avril. He engines needed re hauling and extensive modifications that he had already thought of. He wanted this bird to fly and push the limits and beyond. Speed and maneuverability was going to be the main key of their survival in this unfair galaxy. He wasn't commanding a capitol ship that can dig her heels and and go broadside to broad side with other big bitches. No, he was the captain of a ancient gunship.

Speaking of the magician, Strider could here the woman's voice echoing from the crew quarters just below the command deck as well over the PA system. He would pull up his black trousers and buckle his belt up before reaching for the PA system in turn. "We have a job Kayleigh!" his own voice now would echo through out the ship emphasized by the PA system from the confines of his private quarters on the command deck. Strider would then grasp for his beskar breast plate, slight nostalgia of battles past came to him as he gripped the mandalorian piece of armor. He shook his head, waving away the old memories of the days he was Field Marshal orchestrating galactic conquest.

He was a captain now, his responsibilities were to his crew and his ship. Find work and keep flying. This was the simple life. Strider would put the strap the breast plate on and the reach for his gun belt that held home to his DE-10 blaster and DL 44. There was also a large hip holster tight off to his right thigh that housed his custom sawed off double barreled scatter gun. The moment he slung the belt on and secured the thigh holster he felt and heard a thump off the bow of his ship. "MEER!!!! I thought you said you were a good pilot!" The hound of keldabe barked from his quarters that were behind the ship's cockpit. "YOU STOP TRYING TO KILL MY BIRD BY FLYING INTO poodoo" he was still rambling off as he snagged his old nerf hide duster and stepped out into the corridor. Cussing and swearing at the blue fureball.

He walked through the hatch and could see through the view port the Chasin city's main docks was in visual. Though it seemed those that were in the cockpit were more focused on something below the forward viewports. "What the frack did you hit Meer?" He snarled once more as he cleared the distance from the hatch towards his main pilot/captain's chair. His eyes caught sight of a humanoid attached to the bow of his ship. "Huh!!" He blurted out in surprise.

He step back from the view port and calmly sat down in his captain's chair and slightly twisted it so he could have full on view of his co pilot. "How did ya....." He had to compose himself a bit more before pressing the current issue upon Mere "How in nine Corellian hells did you run over a pedestrian mid air over the ocean?"

Sem frowned at the sound of something hitting the ship... It almost sounded organic, which would have been strange -- as far as they were aware, there was nothing that large and living which could cause such a thump.

The Clawdite excused themselves and went to go investigate the noise, not having much of anything else to do. They did not like to carry around pistols or things of that nature, since they failed at any combat in close quarters. Similarly, the only armor they really possessed was a tough vest made from nerf leather, which they wore every now and then; again, as close combat was something which Sem did not excel at. The disadvantages of being an artillery personnel on a pirate ship, but oh well.

They finally found a viewport, and had to rub their eyes a couple of times. How in the world did a human manage to hit the ship? They wondered. We must be seeing things. Perhaps it would be best for us to seek out the mechanic, and assist. Yes, that would be better; Sem was much more comfortable with machinery. And perhaps we can help solve her issue with the engines.

That thought pleased them the most, so without further ado Sem, still in their human form, walked off to locate Kayleigh.

Kayleigh's ears perked up when she heard [member="Strider Garon"] over the PA announce that they had finally acquired a job that would hopefully pay. Maybe she could afford a day or two off the ship for some R&R, and maybe even another batch of those exotic strawberries. The thought made her smile a wolfish grin, a momentary daydream of a sandy beach and glass of champagne in one hand, a good book in the other, lounging under the shade of a sprawling tree. Her vision was ruined a few seconds later, as a thud rang out as if it came from somewhere above her. Thats odd. What's going on up there? She wondered what the noise was this time, for once it wasn't the sound of an engine failing, or a fire alarm, or the proximity sensor alerting to an incoming asteroid.

Still, curiosity got the better of her. The girl reached forward and adjusted a number of settings on the control clusters, set response alarms and reset timers before quickly patching a few new cables from one end of the power grid to the other in an effort to spread out the energy draw more evenly. The floor looked like a mess, with snakes of cables running wild from one side to the other, one could hardly guess where everyhting went. It was not the place you'd want to walk around in the dark, least of all find something you dropped in. It would likely be swallowed by the sheer volume of wires and cables.

As she finished and began to rush out towards the main deck she nearly ran into [member="Semziru Nar"] as she hopped through one of the hatchways. "Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't know anyone else was down here. Did you hear that noise?"

Sem blinked as Kayleigh almost ran into them, taking a step back to avoid impact. "Yes, as a matter of fact," they told her. "We think we saw what caused it, but...well, it was a rather strange thing." They looked up, trying to figure out a sane way of explaining it all. "You see...it appears that the ship had hit a human male. We had heard the noise, but when we went to investigate...we saw that." The Clawdite shrugged. "Of course, it could merely be the light or something tricking us, so we came down here instead to see if we could lend you a hand."

They gave an attempt at a grin. "Since we have some experience with mechanics, we thought we could help you fix the engines. Or at least patch them up enough to last."

The blue hairball had no response to the old man's banter. "Alright!' Strider turned his chair to face forward. With a few clicks of buttons he had complete command of the Avril, his hands firmly gripping the steering yoke. The mandalorian warrior had lived for decades, had experienced most pleasures in life but nothing beat the feeling of freedom when one held his very own ship in his grasp of control. His eyes were focused on the harbor and its bustling port that was getting larger by the second in his viewport.

Strider reached out and grabbed the throttle control, slowly pulling it back to de-accelerate the ancient gunship to save landing speeds. If he was landing on hard surface he would of used repulsor engines and landing thrusters to aid in a safe landing. But he was going for a hydro landing and he had to watch his speed and angle of approach. This was far more dangerous then actually landing on a pad but the old man loved utilizing the ship's amphibious qualities.

"Hold on!" He would warn the crew as he commanded the Avril to descend towards the waters below. Strider would delicately raise the ships nose so that her under belly would take the brunt of the impact, avoiding an embarrassing nose over end capsizing incident that could ruin the all. The ship would bulk at the impact for a mere second as her nautical keel would tear through the water and easing her in proper. Then the wing's pontoons would steady her out in the waters as they motored in to dock.

Strider didn't bother to look to see if the human noise peace of his ship was still attached. His caring had ceased many moments ago and figured this was how life sorted itself out by natural selection. The strong and smart would continue to have advantage while the weak and retarded would find interesting ends. Spinning the ship about, he would maneuver her so that the stern was accessible by the dock and the Avril's loading ramp.

Few more clicks and she would be powered down. "Kayleigh, You have command!' He would announce over the PA system. "Those that are coming with me, we are Oscar Mike in five seconds!"

He would quickly do a double check of himself, ensuring that he had all his equipment on hand. Then he would march down the ramp to the cargo/crew area and onward towards the ramp. His Security team would be on his heels as he commanded the ramp to lower. Strider would then be the first to step foot on the dock, the winds blowing his duster about as he would walk towards the entrance gates. "Lady Kay! Where you at?" He would comm his contact.

It wasn't hard to spot the Avril coming in for a landing. It was by far a bit of a splashy entrance. But could she expect anything else given the....stage show that [member="Strider Garon"] performed at his birthday party?

Her comm came to life as he messaged her. But instead of answering it, she just weaved her way through the crowd and approached him. "I'm right here." She bowed her head, wondering if he'd even recognize her after that brief meeting months earlier. "Thank you for coming. I'm sorry if I had disturbed your retirement. Perhaps I can offer you a couple of cases of our brandy? It's one of the Galaxy's finest."

For it was All but a Dream
Akio heard Lady Kay over his captain's comm. He had just taken his post in the loading bay beside the door. When he saw her reach the ship from a window, he punched the faulty blastdoor's switch, letting it down with a wheeze in a rare moment of obedience. When it came down with a clang, he looked at the meek female at its feet.

The infamous senator.

Akio's trigger finger twitched as he saw her, and his eyes glinted for a moment. She was right here, the largest bounty the Hutt had placed. The thrill was there, his heart pounded in his chest and the old habit of running the numbers began once more. Chiss shook his head, snapping himself out of it. That isn't who you are anymore. You are a different man. Be the man Dryzl wants you to be.

Instead he gave her a low bow, "Ch'eo nuhn cart Akio Diatchi. Hah cart ch'a vun'ur ch'at csan'vun't vah, ch'in'vah. My name is Akio Diatchi. It is an honor to meet you , miss. Your reputation precedes you."

Kay turned to the Chiss, [member="Akio Diachi "]as he spoke and bowed her head to him. It was uncommon for a Chiss to act so respectful towards her. But maybe that's because she was a paycheque for them.

"Pleasure, sir. Though as for my reputation...I'm sure that there's plenty of different versions. But it does bolster me up into seeming a lot more interesting and dangerous than I'm sure that I am. I just hope that I don't disappoint."

[member="Strider Garon"] sure knew how to pick a rag tag crew. But that's what they have in common. Kay was guilty of that herself and it always worked in her favour.

"Shall we go to one of the taverns? Or is there somewhere else that you'd like to discuss business?"
