Public First steps

A shallow breath left the man as his eyes closed to the kiss, he pat her hand and squeezed it. When a passing server came by he quickly procured two tall glasses and offered her one.

"
Okay, so you take your shot. What do I need to do? Just stand here and be arm candy? I can do that easily enough."

As the words left the young man's voice the Imperial officers seemed to stiffen ever so slightly, a single figure stepped into the large ballroom and approached Thrawn. The Chiss imperial gave a generous bow of his head as others seemed to avert their gaze.

The figure stood in a rather attractive coat with a suit underneath, their skin was a pale almost sickly tone to it. On either side of him stood two rather armed guards heavy weapons in hand.

A chill ran down Modis spine and he subconsciously squeezed Marions hand tighter as he looked to the figure. His eyes grew harsh and wide as if he was afraid without even knowing it.

"Does your plan account for that guy? He uh seems like he means buisness... and I don't know about his guards... I might need some... extra motivation."

The young man gulped before he would take a long drink of his champagne, his eyes drifted back to his 'Date'.

Marion listened to Modi ask if he had any further role than be a debonaire escort. She handed a pistol under the table to him.

“When the Chiss is hit, you will take down the guards.”

She batter her eyes, and the. Turned her attention to the other figure. To her great dismay it was One of Them, those brutal and cruel manipulators of Magick, who searched thoughts and brandished burning blades.

An Inquisitor.

“This puts a wrench in our plans. We either will have to abort or one of us get alone with The Chiss. But even if we succeed, The Inquistor will cut us down fast afterwards.”

Marion looked Modi in the eyes, her face tried to hide her alarm.

“I will see to it you get full payment.. head for the glass doors.. it looks like evac will be for one.”

She tore his pistol from her thigh holster and took a deep breath. Her heart pounding as The Inquistor in his gray skin and bald head turned with amber eyes with lizard like black slits.

Modi looked back to her, his eyes narrowing a bit as he reached under the table and grabbed her wrist. He shook his head at her and held her hand where it was. The young mans breathing was hitching slightly as his eyes were wide. He appeared clammy almost.

"I don't know what an inquisitor is... I don't know who that guy is. But I do know that if you do anything you'll die. ANd I was hired to protect you right? Look lady a job is a job, and I can't back down now. Credits or not. So, we find another way, there has to be one right?"

Modi Orrax Modi Orrax held her wrist and kept her from the suicidal attack. She remained seated, and turned to listen to his points, that there had to be “another way.”

Marion nodded and gave a big smile, her big eyes fixing on Him.

“Alright, we wait for a more opportune time.”

Modi was proving to be much more than he appeared in that bar. He could have run off with the down payment or let he do the crazy gamble and gotten to safety with the full sum. Instead he showed he was a man who honored his word, and earned his pay.

The Inquistor that had eyes them, returned to talking to Thrawn, and it seemed for the moment they were safe. A waiter in white with gold tails on his suite brought two tall glasses of sparkling gold champagne, and some Mon Clamari Caviar. Some lightly buttered toast in sqaures was laid on their little plates, one of which Marion took and scraped some blue eggs on and took a bite, the toast making a crunch sound as she took a napkin and dabbed her mouth which had some white and blue on it.

Modi raised a brow at the strange foods that had been brought to them, adimitedly he had never experienced such... pleasantries in his life. There was a certain poshness to it, one that left him with a bit of disdain. Though he had a job to do so the young man picked up the toast and eggs and mimicked the woman besides him.

Though as he ate he studied the room and all its potential exits, it's hiding spots and any dark corners that filled the room. It was after a moment an idea came to him, he leaned over and grabbed Marion by her chin, pulling the woman to meet his gaze as he spoke softly. His thumb caressing her cheek as he spoke just loud enough for her to hear.

"Do we know if the chiss is staying in this hotel as well? If he is, we could do this a little... cloak and dagger? I know a guy who dabbles in poisons."

The young man smirked looking at the woman in front of him, he took the moment to peck her lips before looking else where in the room watching the dark figure in the room.

The inquisitor seemed to be here on pleasentries rather than any real buisness. It wasn't long before they had a glass of champagne themselves and were chatting amongst the most handsome and beautiful people in the room. Meanwhile, their mark... Thrawns descendent was making his way towards the stage, it would appear whatever event this ball was meant to showcase was about to begin.

Marion was pleased that Modi was taking his cover and this mission seriously. His suggestion they attempt poison was a worthy option.

“I believe he in the Suite at the top level. This friend.. can they be trusted to be discreet? The Inquisitor there is my greatest concern.”

As she said that The Inquistor turned and approached their table, his amber eyes fixating on them both. Marion squeezed Modi’s hand when The Inquistor stopped a few paces from the table,

“The Grand Officer Thrawn wishes to invite you to a private party in his suite after this Galla.”

Marion bowed her head slightly with a smile,

“That would be lovely, tell Grand Officer Thrawn we graciously accept his invitation.”

The Inquistor with his cold expression blinked and turned on his heel to relate the answer to The Chiss before his speech.

“You better get that friend of yours ready.. this is our chance.”
