Public First steps

Marion Coeur

Modi's breathing was still heavy, each rise and fall was met with another just as fast. How was she so calm about this? How could she be so ready... Is she reading off his measurements? Thats. Well thats a bit much. A nervous laugh escaped the man before her last question steeled him. His shaking stopped and his breathing slowed. He looked at her with his bright eyes. The blue hues glazing over as the high from the adrenaline began to fade away.

"I am not dying. Look lady, if we do this. I'll help you, but if it gets too hairy. And if it means my life, I can't promise you I am going to do what survivors do."

Marion watched as Modi shifted in his seat and began to be brutally honest, which she appreciated.

“I understand. You only need to stay on mission till the Imperial Officer is neutralize. Once the shots are fired, you may bail and the credits will automatically wired to an account of your choosing.”

She paused for a moment.

“If you flee before the attempt, you will get nothing.”

On that last word that left her voice changed to a rather stern and stoic tone.

She then stood up from the bat stool.

“There is one more thing, this Imp is significant. He is a Chiss, and great-great descendant of one of then most formidable Moffs from the Galactic Era, Thrawn.”

Modi looked to the woman with a raised brow followed by a chuckle. He watched her stand up and let out a slow breath through his nose.

'Damnit, what am I doing?' He thought to himself before he took his hand from hers and shoved both hands under his jacket.

"Alright. When do we start?"

Marion took a blaster from the back of her dress, and handed it under table to Modi.

“Tonight.. meet me at Shadaa Lights Hotel. There you will be briefed and we will make our way to the ball.”

She gave the Smuggler a look.

“You are brave.. you will need that tonight. Remember not to flee till the Chiss is gargling in his own blood.”

She handed the comlink to Modi.

“Contact me on this. When it is done, you will have your money wired. Oh.. twenty thousand will be placed in your account as a down payment, some incentive to carry out your end of the bargain, and establish our good faith.”

Modi took the blaster and placed it in his waistband. His breathing still heavy as he looked to the woman in white. He shook his head slightly and gave a bit of an awkward laugh.

"Brave isn't the word I'd use miss. Just. A man who wants money. And a future."

Modi almost didn't believe it, but he wanted to ensure she was telling the truth. He slid his datapad across the table as he took the commlink.

"Transfer the funds to this... And we got a deal..."

The man would whisper the words, leaning over towards her trying to be rather inconspicuous and perhaps failing. He pretended that he was hitting on the woman in the bar for a moment waiting for her to transfer the funds.

"I guess I'll pick you up tonight then hmm?"

The Spy Lady took the datapad and swiped, she then pressed a button and 20,000 credits was wired to the account. Marion then looked at Modi.

“With that sum you could run.. and if you did I would not blame you.”

She combed her strand behind her ear.

“If you choose to keep your end of the deal. I will be in room 304, at the hotel. The Ball will be in the same hotel, and so there will be security. Make sure to look as you belong.”

She placed her hand on his,

“I hope to see you then. If not, may you have a good life.”

With that she leaned in and kissed his cheek, her red lips leaving an in print. She battered her eyes and left the Bar.

The choice was now for Modi. Would he risk for more or flee with the money he already had?

Modi watched her leave, his head tilting. And as the woman left he would simply look at his datapad... His eyes unfocused and heavy. What was he doing? He's going to get himself killed...Fuck it. Modi slammed a few more credits on the bar. He had them to spend now and began to toss back a few drinks...

Hours would pass and Modi made his way towards the Shaddaa Lights hotel specifically room 304... He hadn't bought a suit, merely because, the man forgot. He had stowed some stuff away in the bar nearby, ready to bounce at a moments notice. His hand hovered over the door's frame for some time before with a loud breath he would knock on the door...

Marion heard the knock at the door and she grabbed his small blaster pistol, when she looked through digital spyglass, she saw Modi, and laid the blaster on a table.

Opening the door, she stood in a new red dress, her hair slicked back and a big smile on her face.

“You came! Please, come in.”

She gestured her smooth palm and fingers into the hall with yellow walls, and lamps of elegant crystal. The interior of the room was regal, with yellow and white pastels, crown molding, and great chandlier, with a coffee table below and yellow couches with white patterns in lines that looked floral.

She headee into the bathroom and brought out a tailored suite.

“I sized you up and my people procured this for you.”

She handed the fine suite with trousers in a plastic, her fingers letting go of the hooked hangar hoop to him.

Modi followed the young woman into the room, his brow raised as he took in the colors and rather grand design of the furniture and room. He gave a soft laugh and a tug at his collar as she brought him out the suit.

"Right... We gotta dress the part and all."

An embarrassed smile split his lips as he took it from her hands and he stepped into the bathroom. Closing the door behind him he laid the suit out. He seemed confused for a moment before attempting to pull it all on.

Some time would pass before the door opened up once more. Modi stepped out now in the full suit struggling with the tie as he did so. A slow breath of annoyance escaping him

"
Sorry, I've never worn this kind of clothes before it's... Different."

Marion took notice of how handsome he looked when he emerged from the bathroom in the tux.

“You clean up nice.” She said with tinge of amusement.

She offered her arm to him.

“Now for the real test to impress a Chiss.”

The task before them was daunting and dangerous. To assassinate a Imperial Officer, and one who had a name harkening back to The Galactic Days.

Marion took a breath, her heart accelerating. She felt for her pistol on her thigh, strapped beneath the skirt.

Modi looked curiously at the woman that she offered her arm to him. He had seen a couple of holo movies about rather fancy and high and societal dinners and galas. With these in mind the man hooked his arm through hers. Though he remained in the room for just a moment longer looking towards the mirror at their own reflection. After a moment he spoke up

"So impressing him how exactly are we going about doing that, and am I just like your bodyguard your date? what's my role to play to pretend to be?"

Marion stood looking at them both in the mirror.

“My date, which means you better touch by lower back at the Galla, and kiss me from time to time.”

She winked and batted her eye lashes.

“If you find yourself nervious or not sure how to act, use me as your guide and speak to me if you feel uneasy.”

Marion chuckled,

“I am already alone with you.”

She darted her eyes side to side with a smile.

“If all goes well, you can buy me a drink after and treat me to a real meal.”

She winked.

Marion in the elevator adjusted her dress., the tube lift was accented in gold with clear glass that rose upward to the top floor below the roof. The doors opened to a marble grey floor with sconces of gold ans black, and people in fancy dress of all manner of species heading up stairs to the great ball room.

Marion took a deep breath as they prepared to join them. At the enterance was The Chiss himself, Officer Thrawn, who with his blood red eyes and teal skin greeted the arrivals as Host.

Marion squeezed Modi’s arm,

“This is it, last chance to back out.”

Modi looked to the young woman on his arm, then again at the sheet number of people stepping into the grand ball room. At this point the mans breathing had relaxed heavily and he seemed... Mostly committed to the mission. After all of was an extraordinary pay out for a simple job.

Modi would then with lead her towards the door way, a smile clear on his face. Though most who saw this he appeared like a love struck young man with his partner, but to those with extreme skill they could perhaps see apprehension in his eyes.

"Alright love, shall we mingle?"

He raised a brow to her, pulling two stems of glasses free from a nearby server before handing her one.

As they approached the Chiss Officer, Marion reached for her thigh, where the blaster was. She had the best opportunity of success if she shot from point blank range, but then she saw two Imperial Guards step near Officer Thrawn. She decided to remove her hand from her thigh, she would have to settle for different angle.

She gave a slight bow to Thrawn whose blood red eyes fixed on her and his mouth smiled.

“Welcome to the Imperial Galla. Ms?”

Marion took his hand,

“Marion Kotarr.”

Thrawn pressed his lips on her knuckle.

“Enchanted, please join a table.”

He then looked at Modi and greeted him.

“Welcome, you are a lucky man to escort such a Lady.”

Modi looked about the room with a loud whistle escaping him. His eyes wide at all the people in their best uniforms and suits. Additionally his eyes wandered towards datapads and coin purses, his hand twitching just ever so slightly at the view that was given to him. He had almost forgot that he had Marion in his arms before his stupor was struck away from him by the voice of the Imperial Officer. He turned back to the man with a small laugh, and a cough. He pulled Marion a bit closer and gave a quick peck atop the side of her head.

"What can I say!? She completes me, When you know, you know!"

His words almost seemed, rushed in the moment as if he simply said the first thing that came to mind, clearly inspired by some holo drama or two that he has seen. A sharp breath was taken in before his eyes shifted to the guards and his hands began to sweat. He pulled Marion along leading the woman through the ballroom and towards one of the tables. With a quick effort he pulled out a chair for her and moved to sit beside her, he leaned in, setting a hand on hers as he began to whisper.

"So whats the plan? Just... Shoot him here in the middle of the ballroom? What about an escape plan?"

The introduction to Thrawn went well as Modi escorted Marion to a table of finery, there like a gentleman he helped her take a seat.

When he leaned in for an inquiry om extracfion or escspe, she motioned her eyes to the great wall of glass that lead pit on a roof.

She whispered,

“A hover ship will drop lines and we will be pulled out. But the timing has to be right. Once the shot is fired, we have 90 secs to get to windows and on the roof.”

She smiled to act as if he had said something romantic and kissed his cheek. He was so handsome in that suite, he’d pass for an officer, and no one would know he was a smuggler.
