OVERVIEW

The First Order Navy is the instrument through which the regime projects its power across the stars; both the shield that protects its borders within the stars above, and the outstretched sword that lays waste to its planetary enemies below. The shadows of the Order’s Star Destroyers are often the first and last sight seen by those who stand in opposition, only to realize their folly while observing the sunbursts of their cannons.

navyextrapage.png
Operating under a rigid, stratified command structure - the Navy is built around the principle that the clinical execution of their role will determine the fate of entire star systems before the army even needs to get involved. As a result, it has quickly established a reputation of overwhelming fleet strength, disciplined command, and relentless operational doctrine; which in turn allows its very presence to intimidate a system into submission before the first shot is even fired. Where Ground Forces enforce the will of the Supreme Leader upon planetary surfaces, the Navy guarantees that resistance cannot escape the iron grip of the regime - regardless of where they run and hide.

The Navy is divided into three primary operational branches:
  • First Order Naval High Command [FONHC]
  • First Order Naval Security Forces [FONSF]
  • First Order Starfighter Corps [FOSC]
Together they form a unified force capable of dominating entire star systems through coordinated fleet warfare and rapid-response strike operations.

DOCTRINE

The First Order Navy operates under a doctrine that reflects the regime’s uncompromising philosophy of control.
  • Supremacy of Space
    A war is decided in orbit long before it reaches the surface of a world.
  • Unified Command
    Fleet and starfighter operations function under strict centralized command structures to eliminate hesitation and confusion.
  • Relentless Pursuit
    Enemy forces are never allowed to regroup once defeated.
  • Strategic Intimidation
    The mere presence of a First Order fleet in orbit is often enough to compel submission.
Through these principles, the Navy ensures that wherever the First Order extends its reach, no corner of space lies beyond its authority.

FIRST ORDER NAVAL COMMAND

threadbannerbase-6.png
At the heart of the First Order Navy stands Naval High Command, the branch responsible for commanding and coordinating the regime’s capital ship fleets. These fleets form the backbone of the Order’s military dominance, composed of heavily armed warships designed to enforce blockades, conduct planetary bombardments, and secure orbital superiority over hostile systems.

While the structure of the First Order Naval High Command is similar to that of the erstwhile Imperial command structure, there are notable differences; from the aesthetic of uniforms, the way ranks are displayed upon said uniforms, and the command structure itself. Ranks are signified by a series of bars and symbols on the left sleeve of the uniform, and in the case of flag officers, at the top of the shoulder pads. Typical ranks within the Navy are as follows:
  • Grand Admiral - |||||| [Supreme Commander of Naval Forces]
  • Admiral - ||||
  • Vice Admiral - |||:
  • Commodore - |||
  • Captain - ||:
  • Commander - ||
  • Lt. Commander - |:
  • Lieutenant - |
  • Ensign - :
Naval Command is responsible for the strategic deployment of The First Order’s fleets across the galaxy, ensuring swift response to threats while maintaining a constant military presence throughout its territory.

Fleet doctrine prioritises:
  • Orbital Supremacy
    Enemy fleets must be destroyed or driven from the battlefield before planetary operations begin.

  • Overwhelming Firepower
    Capital ships are designed to deliver devastating firepower capable of dismantling defensive fleets and crippling planetary infrastructure when necessary.

  • System Control
    Once a system falls under First Order authority, Naval Command maintains orbital oversight to ensure no rebellion or insurgency escapes (or infiltrates) unnoticed.
Under this doctrine, First Order fleets are not merely instruments of battle - they are tools of domination, maintaining constant surveillance and pressure over controlled systems.

FIRST ORDER NAVAL SECURITY

div3.png

banner15.png
Although the First Order Navy’s primary threat projection is through the capital ships they command and operate, it is not without security forces and soldiers of its own. Within each capital ship, First Order Naval Troopers serve as the silent but ever-present protectors from within - guarding against quiet infiltration, or aggressive incursion during combat operations.

navsecpage.png
They are specifically trained to fight within the narrow and cramped confines of starships, under the effects of both artificial gravity and zero-grav conditions. While it is not their primary function, they are also quite capable of boarding operations in a pinch; yet this responsibility almost always falls to the Stormtrooper Corps - which serve the dual role of elite marine forces for the Navy along with shock troopers for the First Order’s ground forces. Naval Security is commonly seen aboard First Order capital ships, orbital installations, and planet-based starports. Their rank structure builds from that of the Naval High Command, shown below:
  • Lt. Commander - |:>
  • Lieutenant - |>
  • Master Chief - :>
  • Chief - >
  • Trooper - ::

FIRST ORDER STARFIGHTER CORPS

threadbannerbase-2.png
Supporting the massive capital fleets is the First Order Starfighter Corps, the highly trained pilot branch responsible for operating the regime’s TIE fighter squadrons. These pilots serve as the Navy’s rapid-response force, conducting interception missions, fleet escort operations, and close-support engagements during major battles. Starfighter units operate in close coordination with capital ships, ensuring that hostile craft are neutralized before they can threaten fleet formations or planetary operations.

As an extension of the Navy, they fall under the Naval High Command rank structure, from Ensign to Lt. Commander. Should a pilot merit promotion beyond Lt. Commander, they become part of Naval High Command, and therefore would likely become an executive officer beneath a captain, command a larger air-group, capital ship, or installation.

Their roles include:
  • Fleet Defense
    Protecting capital ships from enemy fighter and bomber attacks.
  • Orbital Interception
    Intercepting hostile craft attempting to flee or infiltrate First Order territory.
  • Atmospheric Combat
    Supporting ground operations by engaging enemy air defenses and performing precision strikes against battlefield targets.
  • Rapid Strike Operations
    Deploying quickly across systems to suppress threats before they escalate into larger conflicts.
Starfighter pilots are selected for their exceptional reflexes, combat awareness, and unwavering loyalty to the Order’s doctrine.

BLACK SQUADRON

Among the many fighter units of the Starfighter Corps, one squadron stands apart: Black Squadron.

Composed of some of the most elite pilots in the First Order Navy, Black Squadron is entrusted with missions that demand exceptional skill, precision, and discretion. While capable of operating as a conventional fighter unit during fleet engagements, the squadron is frequently deployed for sensitive or classified operations.

These missions can include:
  • Orbital interception of high-value targets
  • Deep-space pursuit operations
  • Precision strike missions against strategic assets
  • Covert infiltration and reconnaissance operations

Because of their unique training and operational flexibility, Black Squadron is often regarded as the shadow blade of the First Order Navy — capable of appearing suddenly, executing its mission with ruthless efficiency, and vanishing before the enemy fully understands what has occurred.

Their reputation within the Navy is one of quiet respect and cautious awe.

When Black Squadron is deployed, the First Order expects results.
