OVERVIEW
The First Order Army represents the main military backbone of the First Order’s ground forces. Where the Stormtrooper Corps serves as the regime’s ideological sword, the Army functions as the vast war machine that conquers, secures and governs the territory of the Order.
Unlike Stormtroopers, soldiers of the First Order Army are not raised entirely within the Order’s rigid indoctrination programs. Many originate from worlds brought under First Order control, where they witnessed the chaos of fractured governments, warlords or failed regimes before the arrival of the Order.
To these recruits, the First Order does not represent tyranny.
It represents stability.
These soldiers are volunteers or conscripts who have embraced the First Order’s promise of absolute law and Galactic order, believing that only a strong centralised authority can prevent the galaxy from descending into endless conflict.
Their loyalty is no less resolute than that of the Stormtroopers - it is simply born from conviction rather than conditioning.
Because of this, the Army possesses a different strength: adaptability, battlefield experience and the ability to command large-scale conventional warfare across entire star systems.
If Stormtroopers are the sword of the First Order, the Army is its shield and hammer, maintaining control over conquered territory and ensuring the regime’s dominance on every battlefield.
STRUCTURE
The First Order Army falls under the authority of the Supreme Commander of Ground Forces, who oversees all planetary warfare divisions of the regime.
The Army operates through a large and diverse set of formations designed to wage full-spectrum ground warfare. Unlike the Stormtrooper Corps, which focuses on elite shock deployments, the Army fields the heavy logistical and tactical infrastructure required to conquer and hold entire planets.
Major formations within the Army include:
- Infantry Divisions
Standard ground combat forces that form the bulk of the Army’s military strength. These soldiers conduct frontline warfare, planetary occupation and defensive operations.
- Armoured Divisions
Equipped with heavy combat vehicles and walker platforms, these divisions spearhead large-scale assaults and breakthrough operations against enemy defenses.
- Artillery Divisions
Providing long-range fire support, artillery units deploy mobile bombardment platforms capable of devastating fortified positions and enemy formations before ground forces advance.
- Mechanised Infantry
Highly mobile formations deployed via armoured transports, capable of rapid planetary deployment and fast-moving battlefield maneuvers.
- Siege and Engineering Corps
Specialised units responsible for breaching fortified defenses, constructing forward bases, and maintaining the logistical infrastructure required for prolonged campaigns.
- Planetary Security Regiments
Once a world has been brought under First Order authority, Army units remain behind to maintain order, assist in reconstruction and ensure the stability of the regime’s rule.
Together, these divisions allow the First Order Army to operate as a complete planetary warfare apparatus, capable of sustaining prolonged military campaigns across multiple systems.
OPERATIONAL ROLE
While Stormtroopers often serve as the first visible symbol of the Order’s authority, the Army carries out the long and demanding work of conquest and consolidation.
Typical Army operations include:
- Large-Scale Planetary Warfare
Army divisions lead sustained campaigns across continents and planetary theaters, coordinating armored assaults, infantry advances, and artillery bombardments.
- Territorial Occupation
Once a world has been secured, Army forces establish military governance and protect strategic infrastructure.
- Combined Arms Warfare
The Army integrates infantry, armoured vehicles, artillery, and mechanised units into coordinated battlefield operations.
- Strategic Defense
Key First Order strongholds and shipyards are defended by Army garrisons capable of resisting prolonged assaults.
- Military Administration
Army officers frequently oversee planetary security forces and assist in reorganising local governments under First Order authority.
DOCTRINE
The First Order Army follows a doctrine based on structured military supremacy and strategic control.
Its guiding principles are:
- Order Through Strength
Military force is not merely a tool of conquest but the foundation upon which lasting Galactic stability is built.
- Discipline and Professionalism
Unlike the rigid uniformity of the Stormtroopers, Army units emphasise professional military conduct and battlefield competence.
- Combined Arms Superiority
Victory is achieved through the coordinated use of infantry, armour, artillery and engineering forces.
- Enduring Control
The Army ensures that once a territory falls under the First Order’s authority, it remains under that authority permanently.
STORMTROOPER CORPS RELATIONS
Although separate branches, the First Order Army and the Stormtrooper Corps operate closely together during major military operations.
Stormtroopers are typically deployed during the initial stages of conquest, breaking resistance and suppressing hostile populations.
Once the battlefield stabilises, the Army arrives in force to establish long-term military control and begin the process of integrating the world into the First Order.
This partnership forms a brutal but efficient system of domination:
Stormtroopers break worlds.
The Army governs them.
Together, they form the Ground Forces of a regime that believes the galaxy can only be saved through unyielding order and absolute authority.
