Like a dormant volcano rising into the sky, The Nest commanded both admiration & respect from the local populace. It towered above the buildings surrounding it; it's unique coloration of red & black an imposing and unique imprint upon the skyline. It was one of the few high-rise buildings (or Cloudcutters, in Denon slang) on the planet - towering above the shops & market stalls which surrounded it. The building didn't seem to be a fearful sight - The Donna understood the woman who owned it to be quite the local figure - but, like any symbol of power, the commoners seemed to pay the building and its employees a respectful distance.

One thing she noticed upon arriving was that the area was cleaner than one would expect. Trash & refuse, common especially on a mining planet, seemed conveniently absent... or at least minimized. Graffiti in the area, as well, was surprisingly minimal. She commented on this to her personal enforcer; a tall, ruggedly handsome man in a fine suit who looked like he'd be more at home in a dive bar or on a battlefield than in the plush & comfortable seat of the high-class Speeder. Gabriel Lynch, her personal Bodyguard and Enforcer for The Family, had accompanied her on this business venture, and she felt safer for his presence.

They had finally arrived: pulling up in-front of the ominous building which rose high into the planet's blue cloudy sky. Their driver, a Family pilot, announced that he'd be waiting for them to exit downstairs in the basement. The Family had called ahead, setting an appointment and acquiring access to The Nest's private parking area.

Ivory & Gabriel disembarked from the Speeder, stepping out into the warm daylight breeze. The Donna reached up, holding the black wide-brimmed hat which covered her head & concealed her face to keep it from suddenly taking flight. Walking side by side, they approached the building's main doors. Gabriel, ever the gentleman, was the first to reach them and hold one open for his Donna to enter first. She gave him a smile and a nod of gratitude.

9q2Hq0b.png

The interior of the building didn't scream "Big Money" like she'd expected, but it was quite contemporary and modern: black leather and metal, somewhat minimalist, with a focus on providing an open floor-plan and a clean atmosphere. It was likely one of the finest establishments on Sarko VI. A few sentients mingled about in the main lobby; some sitting & reading holo-issues of magazines, while one human in a business suit stood to one side clearly & animatedly involved in a call. As The Donna & her Associate entered the building, her practiced eye immediately raked the interior for signs of Security...

...and finding surprisingly little. She could see a total of four uniformed Security Officers standing watch on either side of the building beside hallways which likely led to the building's bank of lifts. There were a few cameras, but no sensors which could easily be seen. No possible hidden ports for turrets to suddenly pop out & engage a hostile entity. No Sec-droids on stand-by. For a Corporate Office, the building seemed remarkably ill-prepared for a sudden attack... But then again, on a mining planet where the majority were poverty-stricken worker bees? Perhaps they had little to fear.

Furthermore, The Donna, herself, was a believer in subterfuge & secrecy. In-fact, The Family lived and breathed by those rules... So, she would not have been surprised to find out there was much more to this building (and "Grandma Jo" herself) than met the eye.

Ivory glanced at her companion, seeing they shared a similar thought. Together, they approached the front desk and were greeted by a lovely young woman in professional dress who smiled at them.

"Good Afternoon, welcome to The Nest. How can I help you?"

"Moonveil Holdings. My name is Ivy, and this is my associate, Mr. Lynch. We're here to see Jocelyn Pavaliah. We have an appointment."

"Keep it running".

Gabriel Lynch informed their driver who would take the speeder away, and as a precaution keep the engine on and ready to swoop back in for a swift getaway if Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud 's Enforcer gave him the word over the comm's unit.

The man was middle-aged and the look of stoic experience wrapped in a businessman's attire, the type of man you wouldn't imagine seated in some office but instead out on the streets dealing with those with a mouth wiser than their intellect. Since becoming associated with The Family during his long stint inside, Gabriel Lynch had thus far managed to ascend the ranks to that of Ivory's Enforcers, not yet officiated into the Family as a full-fledged member but about as close as you could get while still being considered killable.

Reaching for the doors to the vast skyscraper before them, he pulled one open and stood aside for his the Donna to enter inside, soon moving to accompany her a single pace in tow and already sweeping the area with a steel-eyed and scrutinous gaze, searching for possible threats to her safety. He had the appearance of someone with military or law-enforcement background experience, and on the job, that would always be the case when ensuring the bosses protection.

This one wasn't to be his usual discrete killing or the roughing up of those who owed them credits. This time they would both be in the public spotlight...-Or as public as The Nest would allow, meeting with other 'officials' in what was to be family business if all things went smoothly.

Buried under his left arm, tightly nestled within the leather holster was his signature colt slug-thrower, a weapon of old fashioned design which Gabriel had 'acquired' from a former rival of the family and today, a telling sign for those who got any bright idea's about crossing them. The grizzled man didn't see fit to announce the weapon to the front desk, instead, remaining silent and observant as Ivory Stroud informed the attendant of why they were there.

Jocelyn Pavaliah. Grandma Jo. A name worth knowing around there, according to his boss.

Jocelyn Pavaliah sat in the topmost office drumming her fingers patiently but without purpose. The paperwork was mere busy work that at best needed her to sign off on expenses or even just to keep her informed. Tasks that filled the time until her scheduled meeting. Her eyes flicked upwards, softly twitching as noise flooded the room.

The trio was with her, Biscuit taking the small pot of credits that Deez and Rum had scratched together for the quick game of cards that had been formed from boredom.

She hadn't asked for them to be here.

Having actually come close to smacking Deez with the shock baton she had beneath the desk. His insistence about her drinking some water making her patience grow thin with alarming speed.

The trio fussed over the cards as she slid the drawer to her left open with great effort put into silence. Eyeing the repurposed inhaler that held glitterstim inside, the sudden quiet that permeated the air in the room had her gaze drifting upwards.

Three sets of eyes stared at her, one lifting a comm unit to his mouth as the boys wordlessly stared her down.

The sound of annoyance from her only broken by the sound of the drawer slamming shut as the trio went back to their card game. A huff had her sitting back in her chair, pressing her fingers into her hair line as the line blinked bright in her peripheral.

Tapping it quickly, the front desk announced the arrival of her guests.

The front desk attendant was polite, her small frame hidden behind the neck high and discretely armored desk. It held the necessary buttons to raise the alarm, a small precaution in case of the worst as she eyed the pair that entered with polite attention.

"Good Afternoon, welcome to The Nest. How can I help you?" Came the polite greeting, already figuring this had been the guests Skinner was waiting for. She raised a hand, but the effort was almost wasted as a man approached the front desk with a bundle of flowers.

"I've got it. And these are for you. Still on for this evening?" Skinner smiled to the woman, receiving a quick nod as Skinner stood for an awkward moment, measuring the pair up.

"No shakedowns so anything you bring in can stay on. Just, keep your hands easy to see. Other than that, welcome to The Nest. I'm Skinner. Biscuit, Deez, and Rum are keeping Jo company so excuse those jokers when you see them." He nodded towards a side hallway before waving to the woman, taking the lead as he guided them to a side door with two guards nodding to him.

Seemingly unfazed, the pair didn't bother checking either Ivory or Garret beside sharing a polite nod as Skinner produced a key card and scanned them in.

Unless prompted, he would not speak further as they accessed an elevator and took them upstairs. Rocking on his heels as he waited for the floors to tick by on the counter. Even clicking his tongue softly before the doors chimed open.

Leading them down another hall, he made no mention about the handful of single doors on either side of the floor preceding the double doors at the end.

The sound of arguing was filling the hallway. Barely audible at the elevator but growing in volume by leaps and bounds the closer they got to the double door.

Skinner grew irritable as the volume increased, his pace quickening before his keycard was scanned once more. The doors opening with a sharp click as the scene that greeted Ivory and Garret was that of a card game gone quickly awry.

Cards scattered, a table upturned, four bodies in a tense standoff. The silver haired woman standing her ground against someone much larger than herself.

Skinner extended a hand out, blocking the doorway briefly as he took in what he was seeing before sighing and moving inside.

Jocelyn stood protectively over someone of similar build to Skinner on the floor, a baton pointing to another male in the room as a third was holding the same one being threatened back. Skinner moving to pick up the man on the floor that was rubbing a bloody nose.

"You three. Out. And you pick this up outside I'll fillet your family jewels and serve them to you while I have this shoved up your exhaust port!" Jo snapped, tense and staring down the larger man.

Rum was still fuming despite the threat, Deez holding him back as Skinner picked up Biscuit. Forcing Jo to move closer to the man that dwarfed her.

Rum hadn't let up on trying to get at Biscuit, who was being ushered out by Skinner as Deez let go of the angry man with Jo's nod. The lurch forward would have been enough to let him run after the other man, if Jo hadn't stepped forward and punched him.

For as small as she was, the force behind the punch let out an audible crack that might have been a bone breaking.

Rum's feet left the ground for a split second. Body curled into the hit as Deez panicked in an attempt to catch Rum before he fell backwards onto him. Like a drunk aquatic animal, Rum flopped to the floor and lay there stunned.

A snap of her fingers and a sharp point had Deez getting Rum picked up and carried out now holding his jaw while Jo pushed the baton closed and sighed. Shaking her head, she threw the folded baton towards her desk before turning to her guests with a smile that might have been a little forced.

Her arms rose as though trying to be cheerful before they fell to her side and slapped her thighs.

"I apologize." She began, circling around her desk to grab something. Skinner had reappeared, righting the table and collecting the cards before storing them away.

"Hearts of gold but brains smoother then a water worn stone sometimes." She explained as the inhaler appeared and she puffed on it once. The tension seemed to drain out of her, shoulders relaxing before she placed it back inside the drawer and moving to properly greet her guests.

"Jocelyn Pavaliah. Grandma Jo to those here. Jo otherwise. I believe you are Ivy from Moonveil Holdings." She looked to Garret with a plainly measuring look that switched over to amusement. "And you must be her guard. Don't believe I caught your name."

They'd only been waiting a moment before they were joined by another man. Ivory curiously watched as this newcomer passed the bouquet of flowers toward the receptionist she & Gabriel had been speaking with, flashing a wink in Gabriel's direction.
"We appreciate your hospitality. Please, lead on." The Donna replied, taking the lead behind Skinner. The names of Jo's associates weren't much different than The Family's own monikers & street-names.. Most of their Soldiers often went by simple nicknames given to them by their comrades. Ivory appreciated the mild familiarity with the practice.

The trip up the elevator was quiet; Ivory & Gabriel standing side by side, watching the numbers tick higher as the lift traveled upward. When "on the job", neither she nor Gabriel were particularly chatty; The Donna tended to be cordial, but didn't typically converse with what could be regarded as "The Help". She relied on her own people - individuals like Gabriel or the Devaronian Aurelius Baldor Aurelius Baldor to manage the day-to-day affairs.

The pair followed Skinner into the hallway and along the corridor. The sounds of distant, raised voices slowly grew until the trio arrived at the large office doors. Ivory glanced first at her Bodyguard, then at the man escorting them - reading Skinner's body language. She assumed that this wasn't quite as rare an occurance as the man might have liked.

When the door clicked open, Ivory entered, hands clasped at the small of her back - allowing Gabriel and Skinner to enter first. The man's brief delay had been followed, with Ivory taking in the scene, reading the circumstance immediately. She assumed the silver-haired woman was "Grandma Jo", and it looked like the woman was presently squaring off with some of her Associates.
You three. Out. And you pick this up outside I'll fillet your family jewels and serve them to you while I have this shoved up your exhaust port!" Jo snapped, tense and staring down the larger man.
Ivory flashed a grin in Gabriel's direction; the look in her eyes showing amusement. The Donna liked this woman immediately.

The sudden explosion of violence would only make Ivory's grin double in size. The brief encounter between Jocelyn and her subordinates played out while Ivory and Gabriel looked on - stepping aside for Skinner to remove the one who'd been laid out on the floor. The Donna kept a foot back behind Gabriel, allowing the grizzled Veteran's protective instincts to cover her. She wasn't concerned that the group of rowdy ex-miners would drag them into it - Grandma Jo seemed to have the situation well-in-hand.

I believe you are Ivy from Moonveil Holdings."
As Grandma Jo introduced herself, Ivory stepped forward, releasing her hands from behind her back in a gesture of greeting - palms held outward at her sides. "No apology necessary. Believe it or not, I'm quite familiar with the difficulty of managing a rowdy group." She turned slightly, flashing a grin toward Gabriel, then approaching Jocelyn and offering a hand to be shaken.

"Ivory Stroud. That's correct - although I represent more than simply Moonveil." Ivory would allow Gabriel to introduce himself - she saw no reason to hold a tight leash over the man she perhaps trusted most. She had mentioned to the receptionist downstairs that her name was "Ivy" - but after Jo's brief display of dominance, The Donna assumed such pretenses were worthless. It was better to be up-front & honest with whom she believed to be an equal.

"Thank you for seeing us on such short notice."

No shakedowns. Not even a mere question as to what arms Gabriel might have been carrying on his person. It was difficult to tell if these people were entirely stupid, or vastly confident in their position to deal with any would-be trouble-makers. Fortunately, the Enforcer for Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud was there for one job and only one, her protection and companionship while outside of their typical stomping grounds.
This wasn't Family turf, and with little information on who these people could have pissed on, or pissed off in the past, the older man wasn't in the mood for assuming the best of strangers. The comfort of the sidearm nestled beneath his left arm reminded him of the few luxuries that reality presented beyond the organizations' walls, where people were real and suffering was easily come by.

Quiet and reserved, he followed alongside the boss, keeping only a single pace behind her in order to catch sight of any surprises that could be awaiting them. It would be a safe bet that he didn't trust any of these people. He didn't know them and unless Ivory asked it of him, he didn't particularly care to either. It wasn't Gabriel's business to make friends, he was there to make a statement and leave a lasting impression on those who might do the Donna wrong.

When the small group entered into the commotion, the room shared by others who evidently held some sort of grievance between themselves, Gabriel instinctively stood forward to Ivory's side, watching them all closely. They didn't behave like professionals, though they did as they were instructed by Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah without argument nor hesitation. The woman seemed to command their respect, if not otherwise their fear, which frankly was one and the same in their line of work. The look that Ivory flashed Gabriel would have invoked a small smile in the Enforcer, were they not in unknown territory; Instead, he simply nodded and kept his eyes on those around them both, eager to get on with business and get back to doing what they did best.

"And you must be her guard. Don't believe I caught your name.".

"I didn't offer it" Gabriel replied curtly as the business proceedings finally seemed to move forward; His response wasn't one of rudeness but simply business. Unless Ivory felt his name needed to be known, it was better to keep people guessing until the Family knew where these stood with these people. Despite his age and experience, he had yet to be officiated as a Made Man, and so his common manner of doing business was to offer only what information others outside of the Family needed to know. His name wasn't important, all that was was that he was there to keep watch over Ivory.

There was a nod of understanding from Jo to Ivory as she spoke of handling rowdy groups. A knowing smiling forming as she stood in front of her desk and leaned backwards. Crossing her arms, brain circling around the new name she had been provided. Her eyes narrowed and chin lifted skyward briefly before looking back to Ivory.

"Ivory Stroud. Not a common name. Nor one that has floated across my desk. Good reason for that I suppose, same with your affiliation." She shrugged before looking to Garret with a smile as he made the concise reply she had hoped for.

"Got a few wrinkles on that thinker of yours." She commented with a nod to Skinner. "Skinner hasn't fallen for the idle question, but the others...well." The snort from Skinner was confirmation about the trio that had left the room already about their capability of processing and thinking.

"No problem on my end. My doors are always open. I don't suppose this is about Moonveil Holdings specifically though. I don't usually deal with larger corporations. Personal reasons." She tilted her head a little, Skinner pressing something along the far wall and engaging a white noise device inside the room. "I've engaged a white noise generator in case anyone might be snooping about. I don't have any camera's in this room, and if you want to do a security sweep I have a personal safe behind the bookshelf over there but otherwise nothing hidden."

A pause in her speaking, a measuring of sorts as she eyed the pair and openly thought about their request and arrival.

"I get the feeling this isn't legal business." The small smile changing to something larger. "My favorite sort of business."

Ivory couldn't help but chuckle. The woman was clever, that much was clear. "No, a security sweep won't be necessary... but I appreciate the offer." The Donna turned to look at Gabriel, giving him a nod - she felt safe enough that they would continue with their visit. Ivory took a seat in one of the chairs in-front of Jo's desk, smoothing the edges of her dress as she got comfortable.

"Moonveil is... Well," She started, then simply cut to the chase. "A front." Violet eyes regarded Jocelyn steadily. "I represent the interests of a powerful group of individuals based on Coruscant. We call ourselves The Family..." She paused, long enough to gauge Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah 's reaction to the name before continuing: "I'm sure you're aware of the recent riots on Denon and throughout CAD-controlled Space. I'm aware of your...history...with Diviak Manfloon. Your "retirement", and your unofficial support for our Mutual Friends - Darkwire."

"I've been operating, personally, on Denon for a few months now. Gathering resources, acquiring knowledge, and providing assistance where possible... but, with the recent increase in violence across the System by CorpSec against not only Darkwire, but the general population, I've become increasingly concerned that some form of armed conflict is... Well, imminent."

"I possess considerable resources at my disposal, but when I began speaking with some of our mutual friends, your name kept coming up. It appears you're the "go-to woman" when it comes to Darkwire's logistical support & supply channels. Darkwire's decentralized nature of leadership precludes them from what one might call "typical" means of supply & demand; CAD controls nearly all of the legal channels and most of the illegal ones as well. What I have to offer would be... shall we say, looked up unkindly by The DireX Board and CorpSec."

The Donna smiled coyly, folding her hands in her lap.

"The Family possesses ships, vehicles, and equipment which would be of great help to Darkwire across the System, should things turn more violent than they've already become. I'd like your help to arrange the delivery, acceptance, and distribution of said equipment to Darkwire Cells across the System. With your contacts and prior history, I believe you're in a prime position to act as as intermediary."

If "Grandma Jo" was interested, Ivory would reach into her bosom and produce a small data-stick, offering it to the former Corpo for her inspection.

Gabriel didn't choose to sit as Ivory had, but instead remained on his feet behind the two chairs at the front of the desk, watching and listening to the discussion between Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah and the Boss. Grandma Jo's numbers might have been significant considering the size of the building they were meeting within, yet the sheer list of assets the Family could provide, and the jobs they were willing to do could provide a handle on the dirtier work than she might have been willing to put her name on the line for.

What was most interesting to hear was the description of events that Ivory relayed in regards to the Denon System, Corpsec and Darkwire; the latter of which Gabriel had some inclination about. Corpsec on the other hand, well that was about as clear as the name, wealthy and corruptible types who were rich and powerful enough for them to try and take control by the farce that was legal authority. Truthfully, it wasn't all that different from every other body of legal agency across the Galaxy. People who were able to pay for their agenda to be fought for, and those without the funds and ability to stand up to them.

As far as Gabriel was concerned, it didn't matter who's face it was that sat in front of his crosshairs. It could have been Grandma Jo's for all it meant, were it the request of Ivory Stroud. This was the benefit of being an Enforcer, he didn't need to care about the consequences as long as it served to benefit the Family. He'd done his time trying to fight the good fight for the innocent and he'd gotten fucked for it.

Jo slowly walked around her desk rather than parade herself as a show piece before Ivory when the woman sat down. Skinner finished righting the room before carefully giving Gabriel a wide berth ending with his presence lingering beside Jo at the back of the desk.

She was still listening to Ivory speak, her augmentations catching every word of it but Skinner's breathing just slightly adjacent to her position was scratching the last nerve she was keeping for her own people.

The news of Moonveil being a front did little more than make Jo smile. The slow blink the only sign of confirming her own suspicions as the woman continued.

The mention of the Family however knitted her brow. The smile dropping in severity as the realization of the pond suddenly revealing itself to be a trench wore on her.

The mention of Denon, and the boiling over pot that it was followed by her own personal information received a nod of affirmation in correct time. Choosing to answer with a physcial gesture rather than interrupt the flow of speech.

Skinner for his part seemed largely disinterested in the goings on. His eyes finding a point on the far wall and staring through it as though watching something in the room beyond as Jo listened to the proposition in full.

The pause in conversation was not a long one. Mere seconds to the trio in her company. The augmentations in her senses and processing capabilities seeming to stretch time as she adjusted herself in the chair.

The world held different sensations when every second seemed to stretch on forever.

"It does make me happy to hear our mutual friends think so highly of me. And the idea of getting both groups hacked off dealing with their just dues is more than enticing." The smile returned once more as she leaned forward and put her hands on the desk.

"I am interested. Especially with keeping Darkwire fed, equipped, and capable against those that care little for the people. But I do have a price as with every deal I make. Skinner, kitchen." Jo spoke sharply at the end, causing the man to snap to attention like she had prodded him for inattention.

He moved with a clunky grace. Agility gained after the bulk had been put on as he passed by the pair and exited the room.

The relieved sigh likely didn't miss their attention as she smiled earnestly for once.

"What is your drink of choice if I may ask? I've a decent selection for our enjoyment as I seem to have lost my manners with the incident earlier. My apologies." Sincerity laced the words, giving Ivory the chance to ask about the price while they waited.

The woman considered their offer, and her expression of interest took a little weight off of Ivory's shoulders - rather than throwing them out, or attempting to push for information or leverage, Jocelyn seemed to be willing to continue. The Donna, however, knew she was asking for a significant favor - and favors always came at a price.

As Jo sent her subordinate out of the room, leaving she, Gabriel Lynch, and Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah alone, Ivory took a moment to study the woman closer... noting her comfortable body language, and how she seemed to fill the room with her presence. Jo had the upper hand, and she knew it - but rather than apply pressure like some Criminals or Corpos would, she instead was diplomatic. The Donna appreciated such good business acumen.

Ivory gave a musical laugh, casually waving away the apology. "Bourbon on the rocks, if you don't mind.. May I smoke?" She was already producing a small metal case, flipping it open and moving to produce one of the beautifully rolled Fiora Cigarras she kept upon her person. If Jo returned with an affirmative, Ivory would also produce a unique lighter from her bosom. As expected, she then brought up the elephant in the room: "I'm pleased to hear that you're interested... but I know what I'm asking is no small endeavor. What do you want in return?"

Gabriel lifted a hand with a small dismissive wave in response to the offer of the drink from Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah , a habit that he held strongly to when out on official business. It just wasn't worth the risk, opening himself up to the possibility of any number of poisons one might taint an otherwise perfect glass of whiskey; His preferred choice of poison, so to speak.

Aside from the offer, there wasn't much left for Gabriel to act on. Standing there behind Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud , he didn't allow his composure to be compromised, watching their surroundings and looking for anything that might hint of a double-cross, some kind of threat to their lives. Protection detail, security for the Donna where all other personnel within the Family failed to meet the standards she deserved.

While middle-aged, he was a professional and his caution was merely a product of years of service both within and outside of law enforcement. He was now a dedicated member of her crew, La Familia; Yet to be officiated into the family, but not letting that keep him from being the best that Ivory Stroud had.

The tap of a line on her desk connected her to Skinner, relaying the order for two waters and the bourbon on the rocks. There was a considering pause before ending the call, her mind wandering to the thought of her own drink before settling for water instead.

The boys had already been chewing on her about it. And their display earlier forgiven with a small gesture of the drink for the evening.

Almost ritualistic at this point in her time with them.

The question of smoking was met with a smile paired with a nod. Permission given as Jo cleared her throat when the price was mentioned.

"Man-flu feeds the miners and his staff here on Sarko four glitterstim. There's been a squeeze on that supply since the Gee-Ay moved in. Stricter on the routes, harder to pay off. All bantha chit in the wind excuses for trying to skeeve his way out of buying more." She explained.

"He hasn't been moving enough into the system for me to snipe off the top. My nark is getting nervous. And it'll get harder to ween the miners off the chit if I don't find a solid line for it." She nodded as she spoke.

"I'll help you with this, but I need help finding a supplier. Clinic's don't run so well without a supply." She was honest about her need, not pressing the issue in her tone but making it clear the price was not negotiable

At Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah 's permission, The Donna extracted a single cigarra from the lovely art-deco metal case she always kept about her person - placing the small cheroot between her full lips, then lighting it with her personal lighter. After a few puffs to ensure it was burning brightly, she tucked the lighter and case away again. The smell of the burning herb was sweet & pleasant

"He hasn't been moving enough into the system for me to snipe off the top. My nark is getting nervous. And it'll get harder to ween the miners off the chit if I don't find a solid line for it." She nodded as she spoke.

"I'll help you with this, but I need help finding a supplier. Clinic's don't run so well without a supply."

The Donna crossed one booted foot over her knee, listening carefully as the woman explained her position. Glitterstim was harder to acquire than typical Spice - synthetic versions did exist, but often came with harsher side effects & complications. Ivory was quiet for a moment as she considered, weighing the woman's words. After a brief pause, Ivory spoke: "I understand. You're seeking to clean up the workers? I assume the Spice is used to keep them compliant." She took a drag from her cigarra, then exhaled... reaching up to scratch her eyebrow with the same hand.

"You're in luck. Not only does The Family have access to a reliable supply network, but we also have connections on Kessel and elsewhere. Glitterstim, of course - Genuine Glitterstim - is considerably more difficult to acquire. Spice, on the other hand, is fairly reliable. What kind of supply do you require? Weekly, monthly; and in what quantities?"

"Ultimately yes. Give them an easier time readjusting to regular life instead of becoming petty criminals looking for a fix. As much to help them as myself." The explanation was bland, leaving out the grander details for the moment rather than break down reasons and rhyme for all of this.

"Monthly at most. Some newer patients demand more, prevailing patients less. Waxes and wanes but I keep a projected need list up to date as best I can." She had only ever been wrong when a new method had been brought forward, causing a patient to relapse to the point of needing to cut into her own supply.

But she'd have rather been grumpy than see them fall so hard. A projection sheet blinked into existence on her desk as her hand rolled over a sensor, a few taps on the keyboard bringing up a spreadsheet as she scrolled through the listed numbers while scanning it with her eyes.

"Healthy projection is twenty-seven hundred kilograms. Only reason I've gotten away with it so far is that Manfloon hasn't been able to report how much has been knocked from his shipments when he shorts me." Jo spoke with a hint of satisfaction in her tone, waving her hand, dismissing the screen before looking back to Ivory.

The settlement wasn't astronomical on her end, but it wasn't exactly a cake walk either. She knew certain routes were more difficult while others demanded little more than a handshake with a nod.

The Donna understood. She listened, watching with a measured look, as Grandma Jo explained her position. She accepted the woman's simple explanation - she didn't need much more justification than Quid Pro Quo, anyway. When the drinks finally arrived, Ivory accepted hers with a polite smile toward Skinner, Jo's assistant - turning her attention immediately back to their host as Jocelyn continued.

"Healthy projection is twenty-seven hundred kilograms.

The Donna didn't bat an eyelash at the mention of the quantity. The cigarra blazed cherry-red for a moment as she inhaled deeply, filling her lungs with the sweet-smelling herb, then exhaling in silence - a pause, before she nodded. She took a sip from the glass of bourbon; the tantalizing mixture of Carababba herb & aged whiskey sending her brain into a pleasant tingle.

"Twenty-Seven hundred kilos..." She repeated, weighing the number. She gestured with the cigarra, "I can tell you the distance between Coruscant & Sarko IV is considerably further than most of our supply typically reaches - similar amounts are likely in the Core Worlds, but we have options in how we conduct our operations. This far out, and at the frequency you're requesting, I can tell you it does come with some considerable risks." The Donna paused, allowing that to sink in for a moment, then continued, "I do have an Associate who might be interested in the job, but I'd require certain... guarantees."

Ivory flashed a winning smile, taking a sip from her glass again. One of her newest additions to The Family, Captain Yu Karloo, was a masterful smuggler, and Ivory's first choice when it came to trustworthy in-house operations. Rather than utilize standard methods, she'd see to it that only her best people were aware of the operation. She hoped that Grandma Jo would do the same.

"First, that the paperwork certifying each shipment as legitimate be signed either by you, personally, or a designated signor acting on your authority. Secondly, my people will handle the actual transportation, as well as any... unforeseen consequences... but you agree that you will not consider our deal null & void over the rare - but possible - dropped shipment to avoid entanglements with any Alliance or Jedi fleets operating between our respective planets. And finally, that you will assist personally with the transportation & final acquisition of our goods on Denon, when we're ready. Any further shipments need not see your... personal presence, but I would hope to work with one of your subordinates in the future so that we may continue to work in good faith & friendship."

"Are we in agreement?"

Her prospective business partner hadn't batted a lash. Even the subtle burn of the cigarra was little more than an idle action. Had she been younger, Jo might have even broke the steely calm about her to smile at the calm the other radiated.

Her younger years had long come and gone though.

The next part of the discussion led to the details of the transaction between them. Not unreasonable by any means, and certainly more than cautious in the explanation of potential loss of cargo due to those that toted themselves as saviors of the galaxy without an ounce of respect for those that don't align with their ideology.

Relaxed and receptive, Ivory had her undivided attention as Skinner slid the glass of water beside her.

"I believe that is more than agreeable." The possibility of a lost shipment in the future already taken into account given the sheer quantity of what was being delivered.

She only paused long enough to sip from the glass of water before shifting to the other side of the deal.

"Now then. What could the good folks of Darkwire need from me?" She crossed a leg behind the desk, curiosity piqued at the idea of the group being willing to step outside of their usual means.

"I imagine it must be a rather unique situation to enlist someone such as myself to move things." Jo let the faint tinge of a smile appear. It did warm her shriveled heart a touch to be thought of.

"It is, in fact. Very unique circumstances." Ivory offered, pleased that the time had come to discuss her purpose there. She settled in, leveling a serious look at Grandma Jo - clearly, considering the words she were about to speak to be of grave importance.

"As I'm sure you're aware, recently, the Corporate Authorities of Denon convinced the Senate to declare Darkwire a terrorist organization. You and I both know, the CAD & CorpSec are the only real terrorists… Darkwire fights for the People, and times are changing very quickly. If Darkwire doesn't prepare, CAD will use it's near-infinite resources to end Darkwire, kill or capture every last member, and wipe the group from the System."

The Donna sighed, stubbing the remains of her cigarra in an ashtray on the desk then smoothing down her dress; realigning a steady gaze upon Grandma Jo.

"I believe it both wise and prudent to see Darkwire, and the people of Denon, have both the means and the spirit to defend themselves when the time comes."

She snapped her fingers, and her grizzled enforcer stepped wordlessly stepped forward, producing - of all things - a piece of flimsi with a list scrawled upon it. Ivory handed this list over to Grandma Jo.

Upon it was a detailed list in shorthand of a selection of familiar equipment such as medical supplies, gas masks, surveillance gear, and other personal protective equipment. Below it, there was a further list… an inventory of weapons both projectile & melee. Most of the weapons on the list appeared to be classified as "Heavy Artillery"; weapons designed for support & suppression, or disabling or damaging vehicles - likely the same vehicles & mechs CorpSec infamously fielded against even unarmed opponents. Further below, was a small section listing a small subset of what was likely anti-personnel explosives.

The amount on offer was… considerable. Likely worth a small fortune on the black market.

"With your connections and further assistance in seeing these items go to those in greater need, we seek to supply Darkwire with said means. I also have, in my possession, a number of small, cheaply-made Mechs."

The explanation of the situation was a serious one, and something similar to a discussion she'd had with Manfloon and his cronies in what was only a memory now.

Darkwire was in the same position miners attempting a demand for their rights had been some twenty or thirty years ago. They didn't want the world, merely what was owed them. But profits and production were not in either groups hands in any true sense of the word.

And that's when people like Jo had been paid to "step in".

A list of goods was produced, and Jo pulled it closer for inspection. The brief glance being cognitively slowed down as her brain processed the information. Most all of it seeming paramilitary in intent. Near the bottom end of it however, even the split second glance and processing didn't stop a brow from arching at the items.

"I have a lot of trust in Darkwire being capable. But a crash course on some of these things isn't going to be enough." The possibility

She let the paper settle in front of her, hand still holding onto it as though it would flutter away.

"They will be supported using these things, yes?" She posed the question as she would over her own people. Even if the group wasn't kin like the people in this building, she knew enough that most of the bodies in Darkwire hadn't seen as many cycles as she had.

Some even combined didn't match her own.

"Otherwise I see no direct issue aside from organizing and delivery. Acquisition won't be terribly difficult with the dissolution of the Confederacy to get surplus military gear. Other than making sure the cargo stinks enough to keep noble noses out of it..." The paper slipped onto the desk, hands crossing on the table as she leaned forward with a faint smile.

"I believe we have an accord."

The Donna nodded, confirming her answer to the question. "Yes... Not only goods, but also training... the best we can provide, under the circumstances."

Ivory smiled. "We'll be supplying much of the inventory through established channels. Untraceable & untouched." She laughed in agreement, "As you're far more familiar than I with Denon's trade routes, I leave the actual act of packaging to you... I'm sure you you won't disappoint."

Gabriel radioed down to the Driver, requesting their transport be brought around to the front of the building, while Jocelyn Pavaliah Jocelyn Pavaliah and Ivory Stroud completed their business. The two women shook hands - an exchange of pleasantries, and a promise to keep in touch. Ivory finished her drink, gave a polite nod to Grandma Jo's assistant, and adjusted her hat before finally taking her leave.

The meeting could not have gone better. When the time came, she was sure the Corpo-turned-Revolutionary would follow through on her end of the bargain... and for The Family's part, Grandma Jo would have her spice as promised. The Family always kept its word.

~ End ~
