DESCRIPTION |
When development of the Ferrixian Guard Armor began, the design teams of Aether Technologies drew inspiration from previous designs, specifically, the Alliance Guard Armor and NavSec Armor - both originally developed for the Galactic Alliance. This retention of previous design elements further directed the development of what would become the Ferrixian Guard Armor, which can easily be seen in its lack of the standard pressurized or specialized sealed suits that are much more common in other armors. However, the armor still provides ample protection to those individuals who have stepped forward to protect their homeworld of Ferrix under the direction of a newly appointed and largely unknown Warden of the Mandalorian Empire. Every suit of armor is individually tailored to the personnel that it is issued; this is to ensure that the armor cannot be easily donned as a disguise should the individual be rendered inert or incapacitated in some way. The armor further retains design aspects of its predecessors, and can be seen in the inclusion of pockets and underlay materials that consist of reflective crystals that have been suspended in a semisolid gel, providing increased protection against sonic-based weaponry and physical impacts such as those from blunt force trauma. Where the armor differs from previous models is its inclusion of a breathmask survival system, which includes a small rebreather pack connected to a breathmask via a set of flexible tubes. This additional survival gear permits the wearer to operate in hostile environments or atmospheres for limited periods, and can be set up to provide oxygen or the appropriate atmospheric gases that a specific species may require. However, it still lacks the means to be fully sealed or pressurized, and the wearer is still at risk of being exposed to chemical or biological agents that may which absorbed through contact with the skin or mucous membranes. Furthermore, this also prevents the armor from being utilized to survive in the vacuum of space, as is possible in various other armor designs. While boasting better overall protection, it still lacks in more specialized areas, and, while capable of withstanding a glancing blow or slash, the armor remains otherwise incapable of withstanding a full strike from a lightsaber or similar weapon. While the armor retains the shortcomings of its predecessors, the Ferrixian Guard Armor is still a reliable and effective piece of equipment that excels in the environment for which it was designed and produced. Insulated systems in the helmet and armor, coupled with a combat de-ionizer, ensure that electronic components within the armor are protected and insulated from ion-based weaponry. It's Kinetic, Energy, and Sonic Resistances provides the wearer with a chance at survival, and is more likely to walk away from an engagement unless pitted against the largest calibers and armor-piercing munitions, or a heavier blaster arsenal. Though developed in a short period and equally rushed into production and issued in an even shorter time, the first troopers wearing the Ferrixian Guard Armor are waiting in the wings, ready to protect their homeworld of Ferrix and show the Mandalorians that they are just as capable as any member of the Great Heathen Army. |
