OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Fen'jin (Shi'idese: "dandelion dancers")
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Origins: Lao-mon
  • Average Lifespan: Roughly 4 standard years
  • Estimated Population: Common
  • Description: To the observer they typically look like small clouds of dandelion-like fluff blown on the wind. Look closer and you will see feathery tendril sprouting from the fluff, and little black eyes attached to a fuzzy white head.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average Height of Adults: 4 to 12 inches (10 to 30 centimeters)
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Skin is not visible unless you shave one, and why the hell would you ever do that?
  • Hair color: Covered in white, gray, yellow or pinkish fur that is absurdly soft and fluffy.
  • Blood color: Yellow
  • Distinctions: No visible distinctions between the sexes. Their fur will gradually turn gray or yellowish with age.
  • Races: N/A
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • Lightning: These creatures gather and store a static charge in their bodies. When threatened, they will discharge the static as a painful electric shock to deter predators.
  • Go Forth and Multiply: Their fast and easy reproduction means that they can replenish their numbers quickly and spread to other worlds.
  • Adorable: Just look at them, man.
Weaknesses:
  • Mild Shock: Generally speaking, the larger the predator, the less of an effect the shock will have.
  • Plant Food: They have little defense against certain flesh-eating plants and fungi on Lao-mon, such as the gennalin and wynn'dal.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Palynivore; they feed on pollen found in flowers or floating in the air.
  • Communication: They make chirping and chittering noises similar to that of birds, though they do not sing.
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: The dumb blondes of the animal world, fen'jin are cute but accident-prone and not very intelligent. They can be quite electrifying, however, as anyone who has touched a frightened one will tell you. Similar to certain birds, fen'jin mate for life, lay eggs, and care for their young in nests for the first month or so of a newly hatched fen'jin's life. They then leave the nest and go out into the world, where they will either survive long enough to find a mate or die. Due to their skittish nature, they tend to make for poor pets, but if you do manage to earn their trust, they can be quite loyal.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
"Is that thing real? That… is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Wow... watch it try to rip my face off… but at least it’ll look adorable doing it..." - Ishani Sibwarra's first impression of the fen'jin
Unsuitable as pets and not large enough to pose a serious threat to the native Shi'ido, fen'jin are typically ignored by the general populace of Lao-mon. Some of the clans occupying the province of Ku'sharna used the fen'jin as a food souce. Similar to bees, they produce a kind of honey using the pollen they gather, but only if they have young in the nest to feed. The honey can be harvested and is considered a delicacy in Ku'sharna, but obtaining it is a rather tedious process in which the harvester risks getting shocked repeatedly. Unless fen'jin honey is one of your favorite foods, it isn't really worth the effort.

Very cute! Perhaps the one and only Lao-mon species that isn't horrific to look at (with a possible exception for Beelzeborks, in the different but related "so ugly it's cute" category). Given the relative sizes, probably common prey for Andesites? Poor lil poofballs. There comes that trademark Lao-mon beast-related horror again. Approved.
