Strengths

Jedi Bladesman – Fane has a great love for the art of the lightsaber and hones his skills with great care and drive. This has led to him being very skilled in the usage of his lightsaber

Jedi Sentinel – Fane believes that a balance between a Jedi’s physical skills and skills with the force is critical to their success, alongside supplementary skills that allow a Jedi to operate independently as they need to. This has allowed Fane to grow his skills in several areas in order to operate effectively.

Diplomatic – Fane has plenty of experience having to defuse situations on his own and has grown quite good at it as a result

Weaknesses

My mission in life is to be a passenger – There are stories told throughout the galaxy of great pilots, past and present. Of those whose skills with ships could perform unheard of feats of manoeuvring or turn the tide of great space battles with their prowess. Fane Magnus will never be one of them. While he is able to pilot sufficiently enough to go from point A to point B, the skill to fly during battle or intense chases eludes him and is best left to those with better skills. You would think his skills would improve with all the travelling he does, but you would be wrong.

Independently minded – Fane Magnus is not one to follow orders easily. A lifetime of travelling the galaxy with little to no oversight has left Fane lacking the mind to directly obey any authority over his actions. As such he will often disregard direct orders from someone who considers themselves a higher authority if he thinks he has a better solution or path to follow.

I walk a lonely road – The chaos that shook the galaxy prevented Fane Magnus from developing close bonds with those around him during his time as a Padawan and his years as a knight. Because of this, Fane has little to no practice in forming deep connections with the people, whether as friends or otherwise. If someone wishes to truly know him, they will have to work hard to earn his trust and build that relationship.

Traits

Scholar – Fane has the drive to acquire knowledge within the force. Old books, ruins, temples, force conduits, Fane seeks them out with the goal to learn and preserve what knowledge he can for future Jedi and his own learning.

Appearance:

Years of physical travel and battle have honed his body, with well-defined muscles. Yet, despite this, many would often describe Fane Magnus as wiry and he is easily able to hide his physical fitness under the brown hooded cloak he often wears while travelling. The occasional scar can be seen scattered upon his skin, though none are very deep, signifying movements just that second too slow or late to entirely avoid an attack. His hair and beard are often kept at a reasonable length and rarely grow too long despite the uprooted nature of Fane’s lifestyle.

Underneath his favourite cloak, he often wears dark grey padded armour, good against the elements and a stray blaster bolt.

Personality

On the surface, Fane Magnus is almost an ideal Jedi Knight. Capable, polite, calm, independent, with a strong sense of justice and doing what is right in a galaxy often torn apart by the struggles of various factions vying for power and influence. At times, he seems like he may be more at home in a library, guiding students or protecting the knowledge of the old Jedi archives. He is often described as quiet, the words he offers considered and measured in the situation. However, there are times when passion shines through and his voice travels with conviction and unexpected energy.

But below that, Fane Magnus is a man unsure of his place in the galaxy. His independence is challenged by a desire to form meaningful bonds, to recapture the sense of purpose he once felt all those years ago at the Jedi temple. He wishes for those relationships but does not know how to truly form them beyond the surface with his diplomacy and skills were seemingly hollow and useless in this undertaking. So he travels. He seeks out knowledge and disputes to keep his mind away from the emptiness that he feels, throwing himself into his duty as a source of meaning.

Biography

Fane could not tell you what planet he was born on, what his parents or siblings looked like, or even really if they even existed at all. Although he supposes his parents did exist at some point in time. His own existence is proof enough of that.

What he can tell you was the year he was born, 821 ABY. He can tell you that he remembers the yell and crowds of the city and how it was all drowned out by the overwhelming presence of what it seemed only he could feel – the Force.

Fane was taken to a Jedi temple at the age of four where, under the guidance of the New Jedi Order, he was trained in the ways of over a thousand generations. Trained to feel the Force around him, to use it, to follow its guidance. He was schooled in the histories of the Order and those that came before it, on its code and the role the Order played within the galaxy as a whole. Like all those before him, he was taught to wield the blade and to use it to defend others as much as himself. In these things, Fane excelled. He loved the histories of the Jedi, revelled in the art of blade-to-blade combat and chased any mention of ancient places of the force with vigour suited to the dedicated librarians and scholars of the Order.

All this, he learned through his years and when it was finally time to become a Padawan Fane was filled with a sense of purpose, and most importantly, belonging.

It was soon torn away.

A few years into his apprenticeship, the galaxy was at war. Chaos roamed as the Sith re-emerged and the galaxy was thrown into conflict, threaten from forces both without and within. Factions throughout the galaxy, the powers that held everything together, collapsed under the strain and new ones emerged to take their place, with Fane and his master forgotten in the confusion. Left to wander the galaxy, offering aid where they could in a seemingly vain attempt to stem the tide of darkness. Together they travelled the galaxy fighting desperately to survive the chaos and shield those around them.

It is here that Fane often becomes even sparser on the details. He was knighted by his master during this period, only for her to die a short time later. He travelled for a time, though where is unclear and at some point after its foundation he joined the Jedi Praxeum, taking to its decentralized nature as a means to continue to wander the galaxy as he had done for so long.

Much about Fane Magnus remains unknown, but perhaps time will reveal more about his past, especially to those who seek to learn it.

Lightsaber Combat

Form I - Shii-Cho

While Fane understands the benefits of Shii-Cho against multiple opponents, the wide, sweeping motions and simplistic nature of the form has not appealed to him in combat, and he has found the bladework of Shii-Cho clumsy at times. He has a basic understanding of the form, and could perhaps pass this knowledge on to a student if they requested it, but his lack of experience and usage of the form hinders any advanced teaching of the form to others.

  • Basic understanding, able to recognise and perhaps teach the basic tenants of the form
  • Little, if any, experience using the form in combat

Form II - Makashi

Of all the lightsaber forms, Form II, or Makashi, is the one with which Fane is most naturally inclined. Ever since being introduced to the style as a youngling he has loved the precision and efficiency of the style. Its focus on balance, footwork and calculated bladework suited Fane well and he quickly adopted the form as his primary means of combat, even going so far as to craft his lightsaber in the curved duellist style.

-Fane’s most favoured style of combat
  • Experienced in its use, would find it particularly easy to teach to students
  • Tries to apply its tenants of efficiency and minimal energy usage to other forms of lightsaber combat.

Form III - Soresu

The Soresu form is second only to Makashi in Fane’s experience, providing the defensive nature against blasters and other ranged weapons that the previous form lacks, while embracing the idea of the efficiency of movement for a prolonged battle. Fane places great value on Form III for the defence that it offers, although he often tends to prefer to utilize Form II-style counter-attacks rather than simply trying to outlast an opponent as many Soresu users would. Though he does not disregard that aspect when it is needed.

  • Experienced
  • Tends to emphasize counter-attacks when using this form.

Form IV - Ataru

One of the more popular forms of lightsaber combat in the galaxy, Ataru is something Fane has never felt entirely comfortable using in combat. While form four offered many benefits, using the force to enhance strength, speed, and agility in a wide use of acrobatics, the style often left him feeling exposed to the blade or blaster of the enemy. Because of this, Fane has not utilized the form in many combat situations, and never against a single opponent.

  • Knowledgeable on the form, but lacking in usage in combat
  • Aversion to using in single combat requires more training

Form V - Shien

Shien is Fane’s preferred form when combating multiple opponents at the same time, as it is well suited to combat both blasters and blades from multiple opponents while also enabling counterattacks. While not as well versed in the form as he is Forms II & III, necessity and experience have ensured he is still a formidable opponent when using this form in combat.

  • Form style lends itself well to Fane’s preferred methods
  • Experienced, able to teach more complex aspects of the form

Form V - Djem So

While Djem So also empathizes counterattacks, initiative, powerful strikes and a solid defence, its lack of mobility has always led Fane to use the Shien version of Form V rather than this particular form. While he considers this form an area of future study, he clearly has a preference for other forms of combat.

  • Knowledgeable of the form, could teach the basics if required.
  • Preference for other forms, but willing to study the form further.

Form VI - Niman

In many ways, Niman is the opposite of Fane’s preferred methods of lightsaber combat. The relaxed bladework of the form made it feel lacking when he was introduced to the style during his days at the Jedi temple, and its neglect in incorporating his favored Makashi style made the sixth form unappealing to the Jedi. As a result, Fane has little to no practice in this form and would struggle to teach even the basic to a student, though he might recognize it’s usage should he engage a user in a duel.

  • Minimal understanding, could not teach to students
  • Aversion to use, prefers other forms

Form VII - Juyo

Fane has fought several practitioners of this form throughout the chaotic years in the galaxy as it is often a favored form of those to practice the dark side. While he does not practice the form himself, he is familiar with its style, strengths and weaknesses – all critical if one is to survive an encounter with a Form Seven user.

  • Has experience combating those who use the form
  • Able to recognize its usage
  • Knows its strengths and weaknesses

Form VII - Vaapad

While he has heard of the form during his many explorations of old texts, Fane holds no real knowledge of this form of lightsaber combat outside of knowing that it is very specialized and a very difficult form to master.

- Unknown

Jar'kai

Fane has some knowledge of using two blades at the same time in combat and can resort to such tactics in a pinch. It is, however, not his ideal form of combat.

Other Combat Skills

Teräs Käsi

Fane is adept at Teräs Käsi, a martial art originally created to fight Jedi. Though he has some skill in the practice, used when his lightsaber in unavailable in close quarters, Fane acknowledges that he could stand to practice the style more and delve more deeply into the style to become a better hand-to-hand combatant.

None-Combat Skills

Archaeology

During his travels across the galaxy, Fane has gained a knack for the finding and acquiring of knowledge related to the history of the galaxy, the Jedi Order, and other force-related artifacts.

Artisan

As his travels have required independence, Fane has grown used to crafting, fixing and reworking his lightsaber and has become adept at the practice. Learning new ways to craft lightsabers are one of the few hobbies he undertakes in his spare time. Another talent he possesses is the crafting of holocrons, which he uses to store his collected knowledge he gains from travelling the galaxy and uncovering knowledge and artefacts in the force.
