Factory 3.1: Salvaging Items, Tags, and the Holonet

Why 3.1? Well, we didn't number the first couple of iterations, but here we are and this is what I wanted to name it. From here on out, so long as I'm acting Factory Administrator, I'll be ordering my revisions numerically so we can better track progress.

Now on to the good stuff - we're starting the first revisions for Factory 3.1, tonight. Over the next 30 days, more revisions will follow.

We've got a new holopage that'll make its way into the holonet's dropdown menu soon: http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/the-factory/

New Factory Rules | http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/the-factory/factory-rules-r19
7. At any point during the approval process for your submission (or after), you may apply for a Second Chance.
12. Attempts to mislead Judges will incur a 30 day "Zero Tolerance" ban from the Factory.

Summary: Some people have admitted to "testing" the Factory Judges by sneaking things in their submissions. If you are caught, you will get a Factory ban. Rule #7 is a rewording to represent the Factory's stance concerning Second Chance.

Restricted Items Moved To The Holonet | http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/the-factory/restricted-materials-r40

Summary: Trying to consolidate knowledge from many forums into one central place.

Salvaging Rules | http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/the-factory/salvaging-rules-r41

Summary: To allow players to re-use restricted materials they have earned in the past.

At least one topic tag is required to post a submission to the follow Factory forums = Technology, Vehicles, Starships

Summary: This was done with the intention of forcing members to tag their submissions with the appropriate Major Faction and Company.

We're following a pretty cohesive plan I laid out in my first couple of weeks as FA, so here's a list of what's on the horizon.

1. Backend Structural/Moderating Changes
2. Vehicles Expansion
3. Prefix Layout Restructuring
4. Starships Base Templates Collection

We're not reformatting the Factory. This revision is called 3.1 because these changes are meant to amplify what's already there - not reset it. I don't intend to take us backwards while I'm Factory Admin.

Only forwards. Thanks to the FJ's for all their help and diligence in helping me achieve this goal.

Whoops, left out possibly the biggest part of the announcement, which is the new Salvaging rules.

"5. Salvaging will always cause the new submission to drop one level of production, but the new submission will not drop below the level of Unique."

Q: What does this mean? Can I get an example? What's the thought process going on here?

My guess is that it means if your using Phrik or Beskar from an older submission, and scrapping the older submission, you can use the material, but production has to go down. Minor to limited, limited to Semi-Unique, Semi-Unique to Unique.

Please do not answer questions that are addressed to Staff.

The level of production ranges from Mass Produced to Unique. Salvaging forces you to drop this one level of production for diminishing returns. Salvaging is a quick way to bypass doing development threads for restricted materials, but acknowledges that you have to make some sacrifices.

However, salvaging's greatest feat is allowing a player who owns unique armor to constantly reforge that armor if he or she so chooses, as a Unique Armor can be salvaged for a new Unique Armor submission.

The thought process... is pretty much what you see.
