Fabian Albinac was born the only child of Duke Rodrigue Albinac and Duchess Esther Albinac. The family manages the rural province of Versoe, known on Ukatis for their production of wine.
As the heir to the Albinac family, Fabian's life was filled with expectations from an early age. He tolerated lessons in diplomacy, oration, and military strategy, but excelled in the arts. He showed a particular talent for painting early on, and though his father encouraged his craft, he urged his son to take on more scholarly or business-minded pursuits.
By his teens, Fabian became known as one of the best modern artists on Ukatis. Presently, many of his works can be found in the Daphnes Museum of the Arts, and noble families clambered to have him compose their portraits. Fabian does not take up these requests frequently, and often raffles his paintings at charity events, donating the proceeds to the poor.
When Duke Albinac was killed in defense of King Horace von Cholmondeley during the Summer Rain Rebellion, Fabian suddenly found himself as a candidate for the throne. The deceased king, Fabian's maternal grand uncle, had no living children or other relatives that could lay a biological claim to the crown. Initially, Fabian had little interest in the throne, but was eventually convinced by his childhood friend Corazona to assume his technical birthright. While Fabian himself is uncertain, he ultimately accepted the crown to close the gap in the power vacuum before it can begin in earnest.
Though some members of the court are uncertain if Fabian will make a strong king, others are pleased that he appears to be the polar opposite to the greedy King Horace. His noble lineage appeals to traditionalists, while his decent nature and focus on restoration placates those who want to see change.
With many sets of eyes watching, they can all largely agree that the crowning of King Fabian has brought about the beginnings of stability to war-torn Ukatis.
