Private External Affairs

The scene was playing out before her eyes, the very same nightmare that frequently haunted her sleep. She was running along an abyss, her vision clouded to anything that wasn't close. A bob of silver hair slipping past every now and then, a familiar brush of fingers against her skin. Memories slipping from her grasp every time she tried to take the person's hand.

She walked at first, then found herself running as those memories grew foggier. There was a moment when she finally caught up, her hand wrapping around the figure's hand. They turned around to face the Zabrak, only for the abyss to suddenly drag them down. Vaylin tried holding on, but no matter how much strength she put into it, the void below wouldn't let go.

Then in a blink of an eye, it was gone. Silver hair slipping further into the abyss, and the only feeling Vaylin felt was pain, clutching at the stump that was her arm.

"Not like that would even matter..." Her voice was hoarse, and muffled. There was a storm of emotions swirling within Vaylin, and any of the ones that had been directed at Rae; the irritation, annoyance, had just been washed away. All that was left were the ones directly only at the Zabrak herself. With one particular standing at the storm's center.

Doubt.

Vaylin's posture seemed to loosen against the wall, growing less tense as her arm began to become more steady. Trembling still, but no longer uncontrollably. She lifted her head up, looking over at Rae who had taken a seat beside her. But there wasn't the usual corrupted amber staring at her, but a pair of amethyst purple.

Framed by the Zabrak's obvious attempts to stop tears being shed, and failing.

If rational thought had a stronger hold on Vaylin right now, she'd probably realize that her actions towards Rae would've likely been shrugged off by the Echani. Probably would've asked if the person was cute at least, Force knows Adriana Fortemps Adriana Fortemps was a flirt 'n' half at times. A habit Vaylin knew had rubbed off on her over the years. But then the doubt took over. Maybe that would've been the case before all this, but what about now? After she had already hurt Jorryn? Not to mention it was during sparring, something that was an intimate hobby shared between the two, that made things wors-

Vaylin pinched the bridge of her nose, looking away from Rae in that moment to try and push those thoughts aside. The Zabrak let out a sigh, looking back at the Corellian.

"I've already karked it up enough as is." There was a swell of emotions in Vaylin's eyes. But Rae wasn't looking at a Valkyrie, not a Sith, hell not even a Force user. Just a young woman who never grew up knowing what love was.

And now fearing she was going to lose it.

Rae
