Excellence is an art to be won

Lucien scoffed at Azriel's question "Lord Zadimus the day I fear the power of a student is the day I retire from public live and live in seclusion in a mountain clan " He smiled "I have suffered far worse than anything you can inflict at present and as I've demonstrated I have the capability to defend myself should things go too far" Lucien very rarely allowed apprentices to practice on him but there were no suitable candidates in [member="Azriel Zadimus"] 's home as far as he saw and he wasn't about to orchestrate a massacre of the local populace. But there was no danger of any serious harm befalling him he knew the limits of his fortitude.

He soon felt his defences being attacked. In the spirit of fairness Lucien did away with the extensive array of defences which usually guarded his mind deploying only the paper shield he had taught Azriel earlier. He let the shield fall after a few moments before booting Azriel from his mind for a second in order for him to explain the next stage "Good, good now once you have seen off all of your targets defence you will likely find yourself with free range over some or all of their mind , powerful individuals who have trained in this area are able to deploy tricks and hide areas of their mind however for now I will not use any tricks against you" Lucien would not however be giving complete access to his student. "Now once your in you can do a number of things, read their mind, inflict pain and after some practice even control their mind or body ... now return to my mind , you'll encounter no resistance this time then I want you to read my mind and tell me my father's name"

Lucien had structured is mind into a palace of sorts and azriel would find his mind only allowed into a single room. A space in lucien's conscious set aside for teaching mental abilities it contained trivial information and served as a block on access to the rest of Lucien's mind.

Azriel nodded and he found a new level of respect for [member="Lucien Cordel"] and his teaching methods, it would show his student just how far he was from his teacher and would also instill a little humility into them over the gab between them. As he was allowed back into Lucien's mind he wondered around, encountering nothing but closed doors on the way and he felt a little small in the sum of all the experiences that Lucien must have within himself.
Walking around he wondered until he stumbled upon the open area inside Luciens mind. Ruffling through the information he soon found what he was looking for and then left Lucien's mind. "Your fathers name is Adir Cordel... am I correct?"

"Adir Cordel, yes ... a thoroughly Droll man, I would be half surprised if he used a name generator on the holonet to name me " He smirked. The most exciting day of Adir's life was likely the day he died. Lucien supposed he regretted killing his family deep down but it had been his calling. "Now we will move onto the infliction of mental pain, you do this in exactly the same way as one attacks a target's mental defences simply focus and attack ... the longer you keep going the more painful your attack will become but the more likely an opponent will be able to respond." He indicated for Azriel to attack then sat back. poised to suffer a small headache.

[member="Azriel Zadimus"]

Azriel thought it through and instead of lashing out straight away he decided to do little probes and prods with two of his mental tendrils while a third was made more powerful by pouring force energy into it. Once he thought it was enough he made it merge with the other two and struck with it towards [member="Lucien Cordel"]'s mind as he intended to see if more energy at the point of attack would make the attack harder to guard against as well as if it would make the desired effects come quicker.
It was an experience for Azriel to have such a willing teacher in Lucien and the man had certainly earned the Vampire count's respect if not inadvertently a little of his trust as well.

Lucien felt as if he had been clubbed over the head. He gritted his teeth and grimaced. It wouldn't have mattered if azriel had attacked in three spurts both were equally effective and difficult to guard against , once one was in the head of another there was little which could be done, there were ways of course punches etc. but most required physical control, hard to do when it felt like your head was in a vice. Just as the two methods shared strength they also suffered the weakness of being time consuming and whilst three attacks in quick succession could distract the target there was no such luck with a lump attack. In the delay Lucien had connected with Azriel's mind and so as as Azriel strengthened his connection to lucien he had also inadvertently strengthened lucien's connection to him. upon his recovery lucien countered at first it was but a light squeeze on Azrael's mind but it quickly escalated building evermore painful as time progressed.

"You were too slow [member="Azriel Zadimus"], you must attack fast and loose build as you attack not before" He voice seemed to echo both within and without Azriel's head. then t would all stop as lucien let him go.

Azriel kept his attack up until he felt [member="Lucien Cordel"]'s counter and stopped it as the pain made it hard to concentrate. He felt relieved when his mind was let go and did the same with Luciens mind. "So continuous attacks will be more effective than two smaller ones while I build up the third one's power." He said as if to reafirm what Lucien had told him as he rubbed his head. It was a splitting headache that he had from Luciens attack and his desire to never be under such an attack again only grew with each throb of pain from the headache.

Lucien nodded "Unless you have the element of surprise of course" He replied, rubbing his temple. Having one's mind bombarded was notably unpleasant. It was in this moment that lucien decided he was getting too old for this rubbish. It was high time he retired to spend the remainder of his existence on a veranda with a cup of tea ... sadly he couldn't retire, it seemed whenever he got a quiet moment something came along to shake him up. He blinked a few times as the pain in his head receded "Now is there anything else you need me to teach you?"

Azriel smiled and shook his head at [member="Lucien Cordel"]'s offer for more training. "Not right now no but can I offer you anything? If you are tired you can stay here for the night as I have plenty of guest rooms available." He asked as he wanted to be a gracious host to his new friend and what he had done for him. He was a little hungry yes but he intended to remedy that later anyway and Lucien would be safe from him, not like Azriel could do anything against him anyway.
