Public Evening The Odds - The Great Hunt (Jedi)

The call had gone out through the channels of The Jedi Order.
Monsters had been getting out of hand.
Terentateks, Voxyn, and Sithspawn created by the largest hands in the Sith Order.
Jedi, directed and lead by hunters and Seekers were out in full force, the first two worlds that were identified: Adras and Sedesia.
Settlements had contacted the Jedi Order and High Republic. The time to act was now.

The Great Hunt was beginning.

The world of Adras had contacted the High Republic and through the Jedi Order a team was dispatched. The reports had came in that as night passed, the darkness was not always empty. The darkness on the clear night was full of noise, and monsters. News came of Rathtars, and other beasts in the night. The settlements along the borders were being stricken by attacks, and they were following the Force sensitives more than the blind.

With this news, more Jedi with the proper equipment and training were dispatched. Jared Starchaser was one of the leaders for this team and the Hunter had a plan. The starships were landed, and the beings were heading out.

“Remember teams, stick with your partners. Keep your eyes open. These monsters, some are flying, most are on the ground, but they’re looking for you as much as you are looking for them.”
Hopper, his BD unit was nearby, and keeping on his hip as Jared knew that walking was the best approach. Rifle on his back, lightsaber on his hip, the Mirialan looked at the ones that were coming with him.

“The reports say there is one known as the Leviathan not too far. We start with that, we can work our way down the ranks of whatever Sithspawn we muck through.”
Some teams were moving ahead, while others remained to plot. Jared was ready to get moving with anyone who was coming with him.

Seeing what had been coming around the bend, the Jedi watchman of the planet Sedesia had reached out for assistance. Voxyn, and Terentatek were sighted on the world. The gravity slowing them down but also making their strikes harder, if not faster. Students had gone missing, and other travelers who were Force Sensitive were coming back injured, barely surviving. The local triage units were full up of Force users and the healers that came were making the problem worse.

Shuttles landed with the Jedi teams who would be taking the fight to the monsters and sithspawn.

The orders were simple. End the attacks on the local settlements, find out how the monsters are on this world, where they are coming from, and prepare to continue The Great Hunt. The Council was giving their go-ahead for this strike, to push back the creatures that made it harder for Jedi to do their jobs appropriately. And with that? It would make it so Sith were not being attacked, but it would rob the Sith of their advantage of their Sithspawn for a while on any attacks to the High Republic’s borders, or to any other strike around the galaxy.

The Council had faith in the team that was sent, and gave them every advantage they could.

A leviathan? There was an odd excitement in his chest at the idea of fighting something like that. He'd heard of them, especially from his father. Never fight one, run away. Those had been the lessons for him as a much younger Jedi, but now? He was older, stronger. Was he strong enough to fight one? Could he bring it down?

"Do we know what kind it is? One bound to the sea, land, air, so on? I know of a couple different classifications of them." Ultimately, though, the goal was a full hunt. Find all the Sithspawn and eliminate them before they took more lives. Even he in all his excitement to test himself, Aris was still a Jedi. Mission first. He gave a nod to Jared.

They had this.

The team was in the vicinity, but they were securing perimeters and engaging potential hostile forces of their own. This was not to be their fight. No, Connel was going this one on his own… with another team.

Checking his gear (click “personal effects”) and his weapons, he ensured safeties were set, and sheathes secure. He was not “Special Forces”, though he was armed as such, no, today he was a Jedi. “Morning Light” Sheathed diagonally across the small of his back. “Night and Day” strapped to either hip for quick reach and release. Throwing Lightknives strapped to left leg and Lightblaster strapped to right leg. Loaded down? Maybe in appearance, but only in appearance.

The Shadow reached for a weapon he rarely ever uses, his Combat shield and offered it to Katarine Ryiah. Pair up?

Kyrie wasn't sure how she managed to receive a Jedi request on her ship's computer. Maybe it meant she was a Jedi before she lost her memory? That didn't make much sense. She had sensed the history of things when she touched them. Kyrie guessed that she was talented in the Force, but nothing that she had experienced since waking up with an idea of who she was pointed towards her being a Jedi. No lightsaber. No. She was a hunter. Maybe she was the honorable type of hunter, the type the Jedi would trust. Maybe these Jedi would know who she was.

However the message found her it was a very welcome one. Kylie had done a couple dubious jobs, that she could remember. Working with the Jedi would certainly be more honorable. Hunting after creatures that were taking Force-Sensitives was definitely more honorable than finding thieves for other thieves. Maybe doing a little good would spark Kyrie's true reason for being.

The dark-haired woman instinctively hit the controls of her ship. She remembered how to pilot, how to shoot a rifle, wield her hand weapons, and outfit her armor. All that and the stuff that was key to making life go; language, manners, eating, drinking, those things came as if she had been doing them for years. Kyrie guessed that she had been doing them for years. Why did all that stuff seem so natural, but her life seemed so foreign? Even when she was in action she wondered if that was what she was really supposed to be.

The unique, nameless ship landed at the designated position. Kyrie ran through the cooldown and security ramp up routine and then she went back to the hold. She donned her armor, attached her scythes to her hips and slung her rifle over her shoulder. She wondered what the Jedi assigned to this task would think of her joining them. It didn't really matter though. With her helmet under her arm she walked down the ramp of the ship, hearing the hiss of hydraulics as it shut behind her as she walked to the gathering Jedi.

"I'm Kyrie," she called out loudly. "I got the message about a creature problem. I'm a hunter…who's in charge?

"That would be me." a firm but decisive voice called out to Kyrie's question. Colette waved at the other woman before she finished inspecting her rifle.

Her thumb brushed against the surface of the magazine release and the magazine slid out into Colette's hand. For a moment she weighed it up and down before she attached it to the back of her belt. Hunting was in her blood. It was the life she'd have had even if the Jedi hadn't found her.

Colette racked the bolt and gave the chamber a thorough check until she was satisfied. Her gaze was cold, precise. Then, a slow nod. Nothing was wrong with the rifle.

"Stay together," she muttered to those gathered nearby.
She raised the rifle, aiming away from her companions. "Stay quiet. Stay alive."

Maybe it was overkill. But inexperienced hunters died for stupid reasons. And most of the time for entirely avoidable reasons too. She slung her rifle over her shoulder and turned around to look at the others.

"Play it safe. Keep your distance. Terentatek will rip you apart and leave a poison in whichever part remains intact. If you can sense them in the Force, then they have already sensed you. So be ready."

Colette crossed her arms.

"And Voxyn? Same thing, except they're also resistant to lightsabers. Be smart, conserve your energy and make your hits count. Don't be a hero. Trust the group. Stay alive."

She let the silence linger. "Any questions?"

Dusk had fallen on the gathered hunters. Soon Adras' notoriously dark night would fall, and their prey begin to prowl. This was not a usual mission for the Jedi.

No ideological clashing, no geopolitical wrestling, no governments toppling or standing up. There had been enough...too much... of that. The missions on Adras and Sedesia were something else. They were grass roots operations with Jedi, of all orders, helping a local population. It was what Taam had loved about his wandering. Helping people in real, practical ways.

The big Cathar knight could not deny the excitement to hunt. He was a predator, his people were predators, gifted with the keen senses of natural hunters. He had once cleared hordes of Sithspawn on Tython with Caltin and Thurion. He was eager to hunt them again.

Taam was geared up, greatsword and bowcaster slung over his armored jacket, lightsaber at his side. He looked over at Aris and Jared as they headed out to find the leviathan. The leonine knight glanced back at his partner.

"Ready?" He asked with a smirk on his toothy maw.

Reina's gaze was firmly set on Colette's rifle at first. Her fingers twitching for a moment before Reina managed to tear her eyes away. She hadn't touched any form of blaster or gun-like weapon since...well, Colette knew the last time Reina had touched one. And would know why Reina was perhaps so hesitant to touch another one. Instead, her hand firmly rested atop the hilt of the sword attached to her hip. It wasn't the only weapon she had either though. They might not be hunting sealife, but Reina felt as if her harpoon would be useful for this hunt as she kept it attached to her back.

Most of Colette's advice was logical sense. It was basic stuff she had learned when she was raised. Minus the stuff about the Terentek and Voxyn. There wasn't much reason for her to learn about that stuff as a fisher. Now that had all changed yet Reina was still...Okay. Maybe she wasn't actually the same. Case in point, the old Reina wouldn't have had claws at the ready to tear flesh apart. There was no point in her being self conscious about that. If it was a weapon she could use, she'd use it. She'd have shifted her teeth to her fangs as well, if it wasn't for the fact that biting something put you in a very vulnerable position.

"No questions here. More time we waste, the more time they have to find us."

There wasn't much need for her armour. It would be too clunky, too large. And against these creatures, if you get caught, no amount of armour would save her. It was better for her to be quick and agile. It also meant that Reina couldn't let herself get comfortable either. The crutch of protection wasn't here.

Kyrie assumed the group was entirely Jedi as she approached, but since she wasn't one she was second guessing that assumption. Though she could sense others in he surrounding area, at the moment their were only two others present. Both female, both gave Kyrie that tingly feeling that Switch and others had given her. She was going to have to figure out what they all had in common soon so that this feeling could be put to use.

One of the woman answered that she was in command. That was a relief to Kyrie. She would jump into action. She would hold her own and would not back down to any creature they found on this hunt, but Kyrie double-guessed herself quite enough as it was. To be depended on to lead a hunting party wasn't something she needed. It was also quite possible that she was the youngest and most inexperienced of the trio. She'd gladly support the Jedi hunt for now. At least until scary monsters showed themselves. When that happened she would be a tornado of blaster bolts and vibro-sickles.

Leader didn't share names. She checked her own weapon, which Kyrie was a little surprised to find was a blaster. Watching the action was a comfort to Kyrie. She would not do that same here and now. She'd been sure that her weapons were well prepped before arriving on Sedesia. Kyrie's eyes shifted to the other girl, there seemed to be a trust between these two. Kyrie wondered what that dynamic was about.

The warning/orders from Colette were solid, so Kyrie gave a nod of her head. The mentioned beasts, Terentatek and voxyn were somehow familiar. She didn't think she had ever encountered one before. But there was a feeling in her that said Colette was quite accurate in advising caution and distance. Kyrie wasn't sure how much distance she would be able to keep if she decided to employ her sickles, or if she needed to support Reina, who seemed to be wielding a sword. "I got nothing. I know you guys don't know me, but you can trust me and my skills. I won't be running no matter what we find out there." Kyrie gave another nod and put her helmet on taking up a flank position behind Colette.

Katarine had seemingly found her place among the members of the Path. They had accepted her without question and for months now she had been working assignments with them. When an assignment came to hunt monsters she had volunteered immediately, wanting to do her part.

As they got ready with the team she felt slightly nervous. So far nobody knew of the blood mutation she had that made her especially vulnerable to the darkside. She didn’t want to get in anybody’s way.

When Connel came over she smiled at him. She was happy to see Buster was not part of this mission. As much as she loved the little pup she didn’t want him anywhere near monsters.

“Always.” Connel was shaping up to be someone she knew well, and he was easily who she was closest with of this group. She just hoped her weakness didn’t hold him back on this mission.

Lorn moved like a shadow through the trees, his golden blade unlit, his hand resting on the hilt. The night around them was alive with sound: shrieks carried on the wind, the low growls of unseen predators, and the rhythmic clicking of something far too close. Each noise tugged at his nerves, but his face remained expressionless. His eyes alone flickered, sharp and watchful, always drawn back to Bastila, the figure ahead of him.

He made sure she stayed in front. He offered no word or glance, nothing beyond the soft scuff of his boots on damp ground and the deliberate distance he kept. She wouldn't catch him off guard again; Katabasis had taught him that much. The memory still burned within him: the sting of betrayal disguised as necessity, the way she had denied him the only chance to help Ala when it mattered most. He hadn't forgiven her. He wasn't sure he ever would.

His breath fogged faintly in the chill air as they wove deeper into the wilderness. The Force felt heavy here, thick with the predatory hunger of Sithspawn and things older, crueler.

He let Bastila lead, her senses probing the dark while his gaze remained fixed on her shoulders. He had to work with her; the Hunt demanded it. But there would be no real exchange between them tonight. Just silence, and the unspoken truth that he would never again allow her to strike first.

The forest screamed again in the distance, some unnatural beast tearing through the night. Lorn's jaw clenched. He shifted his weightm lightsaber ready. The Hunt had begun, and so had the long silence between them.

You're a hunter? That'll help us greatly.

The girl next to Katarine Ryiah, Kyrie Blaze Kyrie Blaze was a “hunter”, the others he already knew, or knew of. Colette Colette was once a Padawan of Master Valery Noble Valery Noble , so she knows her stuff, clearly as she was already offering advice. He chuckled that it was good his cousin Michael Angellus wasn’t here. The kid would either think she was “bossy” or “amazing” one extreme or the other. Taam Moghul Taam Moghul was a big burly BAD*SS of a Cathar, then there was Reina Daival Reina Daival , she looked like she had something to prove, which made her more than capable but it also made her potentially dangerous, which that would depend on her future.

Way to make me sound like my father…

Pulling his mask over his head, and grabbing his carbine, Connel checked the powercell and let Colette give out her tips. He didn’t know how much of a “leader” she was(not meant disrespectful), but every group needed one, so he was more than willing to just let her do her thing. This seemed to be her area of expertise. Whispering to Kat, he knew she could hold her own in a fight, but he was armed to the teeth, and while this was not Kashyyyk, he knew Terantateks well enough.

Slipping a hand up the middle of her back, Connel whispered to Kat, paying attention to her dip in feelings, her reticence. He wasn’t sure what she was feeling, but it felt like that..

Stay Close.

Moving his weapon into “discipline” (aimed at the ground, trigger finger extended outward over the chamber), his only question was We have enough for a “forward” group and a “main”... that could be something to consider with the abilities of the beasts we’re out to find. Keep each other in sight, and together, for the most part, but separate enough in case one group gets ambushed. Just a suggestion.

They had the capabilities to handle themselves either way, but it was a prudent move if Colette and the group went for it.

"We're about to head into terentatek and voxyn territory. If we didn't trust you, you wouldn't be here." Colette nodded to the stranger and then looked over at Reina. "Calm down there. There's always time to 'waste' on preparations for something like this."

Connel spoke up. Colette turned her attention towards him with an eager raise of her brow. Her raised brow eventually sunk as she nodded her head in approval. A forward group and a main group would give them some space to breathe but also divide any creatures' attention. It made sense. Connel was a professional, and Katarine a Jedi Master.

"Excellent idea," she said and pointed her finger between him and Katarine. "You two take point. We'll cover from behind."

"If we don't need to talk about anything else," she said and looked at Reina and the stranger in their midst. "Let's move out."

It was a wild place here. Jared was all for it. This was the type of combat and situations he was good with. This was what he was built for. He wasn't a front line warrior but hunting monsters? That he could do. And he did it well.

Armed with his saber, rifle, kyber cannon, and the new Reef's Edge. His sword from Kattada. All of this would do him well.

Looking to one of the Nobles he nodded. "Reports identify it as a Lightsbane. Four legs. Big mother." He nodded as he checked his load out. Feeling like the legendary Kyle Katarn, but knowing he had enough space for all these weapons.

"I believe some of the other Jedi are ahead of us. So let's get moving!" The Jedi Hunter lead them from the village into the wilds. Using the Force to feel his way to the nearest nest of Sithspawn.

Over some rises and falls it wasn't far until Jared gave them the notice to stop. Hopper came up and Jared grabbed his BD and used the macrobinoculars feature.

"Screechers ahead." And he swapped for his rifle.

Stay Close.

Kath glanced at Connel, caught off guard by the fact that he'd noticed the flicker of unease she hadn't meant to show. She wasn't used to being seen so clearly, let alone by someone paying enough attention to read her mood. Kath had been on her own too long. Even now, the rest of the team felt like strangers.

She winked at him to show she had heard him, and then listened as Colette addressed the team. When Colette suggested she take point with Connel, it blindsided her. A wave of imposter syndrome surged up, thick and choking. She swallowed hard, trying to push it down, her throat suddenly dry. She nodded at Colette and took a deep breath. Time to shake it off and try to rise to the challenge. No... not try....

Do or do not, there is no try

The leader of the group expressed that if they did not trust Kyrie she would not be there. That was quite comforting, though ego was the only thing that made Kyrie trust herself in this situation. She had no real idea what they were going up against, how many of them there would be. Kyrie knew that she wouldn't back away from a fight however, and she knew that she wouldn't leave these other brave fighters behind.

Two others approached. Kyrie gave a nod of her helmeted head as one conversed with the leader. There were five of them now and the two suggested that was enough to split their resources. Kyrie was a little discouraged at not being able to take point. That said she wasn't going to argue for it either. She was a guest on this hunt. Unless they knew more than she did an unproven one at that. Manning a flank of the "main group" was quite alright with Kyrie, if that was where she was asked to be.

"Let's get this show on the road," Kyrie blurted out excitedly when it was asked if there was any more conversation needed. She patted her blaster and nodded her head again. They wouldn't see the wide smile on her lips, but any of them would sense her excitement through the Force, if they cared.

Lightsbane. Not a classification Aris knew, but four legs was enough of an idea to know it was land based. Possibly still air and sea, but that was something to figure out when they finally saw it. He glanced to Taam, giving the Cathar a nod. The three of them could handle this for sure. His gaze snapped up as Jared mentioned screechers.

All at once he reached up to tap the dampeners on his ears, just to ensure they were working. Last thing he needed was someyhing screeching him into unconsciousness again. Once he caught sight of them that fear pretty quickly faded.

"Flying monkeys?" That wasn't leviathan level of threat. He couldn't help the disappointment in his voice.

Though maybe he should've brought a gun.

"I'll handle any that get too close."

"...You know best."

Reina said rather simply about there always being time to waste on hunts. She didn't bother to roll her eyes at the comment either. It was unnecessary. But she was the one who had to listen to things to learn at the end of the day, even if it had already rubbed off in the wrong way to Reina. In the same way she had to trust people she didn't know, after having repeatedly been stabbed through the back. But once again, it didn't matter. The stranger had already been told they were trusted so.

Her eyebrow did perk up at the idea of staying in the backlines. But once again, Reina stayed quiet. There was no point giving her thoughts on it. She had already struggled to realise her place in things, and right now she had decided the best place for her was to just keep quiet. To stay quiet and keep her eyes open on their surroundings, whilst they just come up with some kind of plan.

Bastila

The forest closed in around the pair, the air thick with the damp press of moss and rot. Branches clawed overhead, their silhouettes tangled against a moonless sky. Every few steps the night broke with sound; guttural shrieks rolling through the trees, the quick patter of smaller things scattering out of sight, and always that steady, unnatural clicking from somewhere ahead. The air clung wet to her skin, alive with the musk of predators. It was truly a lovely place.

Bastila kept her stride measured, her senses spread wide through the dark. Lorn’s presence dragged behind her, steady and sharp, in the Force he felt like a knife held too tight. She didn’t need to look to feel the weight of his stare. The rhythm of his breath, the faint grind of his jaw, his unconscious irritation carried almost as clearly as the noises in the undergrowth.

Her hand brushed the rough bark of a leaning trunk as she eased past it, eyes scanning the shifting black ahead. The shrieks carried closer now, hungry, impatient. Her immediate area alight with the purple hue of her own blade. She let the silence stretch again, unbroken but for the forest’s restless chorus, and the comfortable hum of her saber.

“You know your grunts of annoyance are as loud as the bloody Sithspawn.” She finally remarked, stopping and looking back at the more experienced and much high ranked Jedi Master. “You’re probably scaring them all away.” She sighed quietly to herself, Damn you Briana for this stupid idea
