PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Has the ability to modulate and control frequencies within the luminiferous aether.
  • Is used as a sub-component in larger technologies, such as weapons, countermeasures, propulsion, sensors, etc.
STRENGTHS
  • Controls the Aether — this component is used to create technologies that can affect the aether within the parameters of an engineer’s designs.
WEAKNESSES
  • Co-dependent — this component is useless on its own, and must be part of a larger assembly in order to serve any function whatsoever. In order for an assembly to make use of this component, it must have other things such as power supplies, regulators, housings, computers, emitters, galven circuitry, etc.
DESCRIPTION
The luminiferous aether is a substance that fills the void of all time and space. Much in the same way that sound travels through fluids such as air and water, light uses the luminiferous aether to travel through space. Not everything is known about this substance, but a few features are known. Research on this field is often inconclusive, or results tend to get lost in time throughout galactic history.

What is known about the luminiferous aether is considered commonplace knowledge to even the humblest of beings in the galaxy, and treated as matter-of-fact. It prevents time-dilation when an object is near a cluster of black holes, and it is exploited to create useful drag for controlling the flight of starships. This method of flight control is achieved through the aid of etheric rudder technology. For facilities that dwell within black hole clusters such as the maw, it is a known fact that without the aid of the luminiferous aether, these facilities would be lost in relativity. Other than that, research on this field of study is rather lacking with any quantifiable progress.

That is, until Viken Dobson made an incredible breakthrough. One day, while working in his lab on Damascus Station, he discovered frequencies hidden within the luminiferous aether, and sub-frequencies inside of that. Upon analyzing these frequencies, he was unable to determine the source of where they came from. But the sheer fact that something could even effect the aether in this way was groundbreaking in and of itself. The mere knowledge that it could be achieved caused Viken’s mind to go into overdrive and he performed experiment after experiment to replicate the effect himself.

His logic was that he could use etheric rudders to synthesize an artificial frequency within the luminiferous aether. Etheric Rudders were a commonplace technology within the Star Wars galaxy that could already use the aether to steer and control ships in the void of space. In essence, etheric rudders used the luminiferous aether to create drag that could push and pull control surfaces. But figuring out a way to affect the aether proved to be tricky. Eventually, he was able to strip down the etheric rudders to their most critical components, reverse certain polarities, and emit a signal that travelled through the aether, proving that once and for all, the luminiferous aether could be controlled to some extent.

With the technology developed, this modulation component is key to creating many future technologies that can affect the aether in space.
