ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Crewed By Ghosts: As with many of Helix's newer vessels, the Eranthus can be entirely crewed and operated by internal holodroid networks.
  • Raider: The Eranthus possesses excellent speed and maneuverability, and is significantly overgunned for a vessel of its size.
  • Ill-Gotten Plunder: The Eranthus boasts spacious cargo holds and internal cell blocks, perfect for carrying the fleet's gains.
WEAKNESSES
  • Scamper: The Eranthus possesses fairly mediocre defenses for a Helix vessel, and is intended to operate in groups or alongside larger vessels.
  • Skirmisher: The Eranthus possesses no long-ranged torpedoes or similar bombardment weapons.
DESCRIPTION

Falling somewhere between the Strigoi and the Rusalka in size (and intended to replace both) the Eranthus is Helix's brand-new workhorse light cruiser.

Small for a cruiser but large for a frigate, the Eranthus is a bit of an odd bird, at least until one considers it in the wider context of Helix fleet doctrine.

Most commonly, these vessels are seen in moderate numbers alongside a larger, more powerful battleship, serving as escorts. At other times, small battlegroups of 3-4 Eranthus can be found roving the galaxy's spaceways for prey.

The Eranthus is a fairly straightforward vessel, and will most often attempt to close to medium range where its weapons can do their work. These ships typically utilize their incredible speed to surround and cripple prey vessels, before allowing smaller ships such as the Aconite to swoop in and clean it of valuables.

Carrying an outsizedly powerful short-ranged armament for a ship of its size, the Eranthus is well-suited to the task. Its hull virtually bristles with weapons, but due to its role as a hugging-range skirmish cruiser, these include no long-ranged bombardment utility.

Nonetheless, even a small group of Eranthus can easily outgun most larger war vessels, reducing star destroyers or heavy cruisers of all sorts to semi-molten space debris.

When not serving a frontline combat role, the Eranthus possesses spacious internal cargo holds and detention blocks. Naturally, these are most often found loaded with stolen goods and slaves, respectively. In either case, even a single Eranthus can haul away the crew and possessions of a larger vessel, to say nothing of several.

While mightier than the smaller Aconite that it is frequently seen alongside, the Eranthus is nonetheless a fairly lightweight cruiser. It is unsuited to trading fire and relying instead on surprise, speed, and its heavy firepower to shatter enemy defenses before proper retaliation can be brought to bear. Should this fail, it is better off running away to seek easier prey.
