Enjoying Nature

New Cov had looked a lot prettier from the limited view Desken had gotten from the window of his starship, a beautiful emerald in space, with a few silvery gems marking its otherwise pure green surface. He had read the files on the planet before setting out for this little journey, it was a singular giant jungle with this little bubbles of respite that had been taken from the jungle. And from the reports it appeared that the jungle wanted the land back. Still the Jedi had an interest in learning more about botanical sciences and rather then sitting through a boring lecture or staying cooped up in the library he had decided the better way would be to launch a little expedition into the jungle itself, collect a few samples and maybe bring something back to the gardens in the temples, though he was going to have to make sure nothing he brought was going to be overly hostile or dangerous.

His wandering mind almost cost him the borrowed ship as he started down into one of the curved pipes, the wings of his little transport nearly scraping and he dealt with a sudden burst of static and swears from whoever was in control of the docking platforms "Sorry sorry" he replies focusing his wandering mind on the ship and bringing it in more carefully. Once clearing the pipe he was directed to a humble little dock and as he landed he looked out the window again. The view had changed remarkably, the dome allowing light to shine through but also showed the sheer army of vines and leaves trying hard to cover it. Directly overhead he could see the sky but as his gaze traveled down the vines formed like spiderwebs covering the dome until the sky blue was replaced with a dark green as the plants hungrily ate up every ray of light they could. Even as he watched a small ship floated about the dome spraying what he could only guess was industrial grade herbicide against the invaders to curb their growth.

He spent a bit just staring, caught up in trying to follow a line of vines wondering where they led down to that he almost missed the port authority, a droid that repeated itself with a tone of annoyance "Business on New Cov?" and Desken flashed a goofy smile and walked over "Jedi business, looking to head into the jungle itself....there are access points?" he asked and the droid, an older protocol line that was likely in need of a processor upgrade or just a general TLC finally nodded and held out a hand. "ID" it ordered and Desken fished around his pockets before handing over his pass and a few moments later the droid handed it back. "Ship fees billed, jungle access at lower levels" and pointed over to a simple hover lift that would take him from the upper levels of the docks down into the city below.

Even though it was a droid the Jedi still bowed his head gratefully and strode past hoping onto the lift and looking at the display tapping down for the lower sectors and he felt a twinge of lose as he started down, the only light sources becoming from the electric lights. Finally the lift stopped at what looked like the cities market district and he looked up noticing signs pointing to surface access ports and he followed them. But passing by he spotted what looked like a canteen and he went in with that same friendly smile taking a seat at the bar. Another droid was acting as the bartender and he ordered a simple drink, to loosen up after being stuck in such a small ship for so long and then asked. "You wouldnt happen to know any one planning to head out into the jungle?" he asks and this droid at least was far more advanced able to actually recoil in shock "I'm sorry I think I misheard you" it replied moving to prepare a glass and the drink he had ordered though Desken noticed it had multiple sets of arms, likely to handle large orders with no difficulty. "The only people who go out onto the surface are the exterminator teams...and idiots" it answered coldly putting his drink down. "Well guess I am an idiot" Desken replies happily putting his credits on the counter to pay for the drink and taking a small sip. "But have you heard of any others?" he asked after a soft sigh, enjoying the coolness of the drink.

The droids lenses whirred and zoomed looking at his face before it turned to the rest of the canteen "This guy is looking for anyone brave enough to head into the jungle!" it announced and most laughed shaking their heads, most just workers on break from the cities biomolecule factories where all the plant life they could harvest was broken down and shipped to other worlds. "It might not look like it but I am a Jedi" Desken warns taking another sip of his drink but had raised his voice to make sure that detail would be added and at least a few chuckles died down and a few smiles left faces. The droid however was not impressed "Jedi or not nobody goes into the jungle unless they have to" he replies simply and got back to work cleaning cups and making drinks.

There was no smile to adorn Alwine's face that day. She had arrived on New Cov some time earlier and had decided to check the area out before headed into the jungle.

But if she were to be honest with herself, her head was not on the mission at all. It had begun sometime earlier, when she had seen her brother during the Knights Obsidian mission. She knew he was going to do something stupid, and she had not heard of him since. Her levels of stress and anxiety rose from day to day since, until one day, it stopped completely. And when she attempted to tug at the feeling, to find anything through the Force, she had found silence and nothing.

It had only lasted a day. By dawn the next, a new feeling had settled. A knowledge. Something that had not yet to occur, but would soon enough. Something dreadful. Something she knew nothing of. At first, the feeling had overpowered everything else. She could not breathe, or sleep, or even bathe, without it taking her senses over. For the first time since Alwine had joined the Confederacy, she'd had to cancel training sessions and call in for sick days.

Gradually, the strength of the feeling had begun to subside. Bit by bit, she could breathe easier, think easier. But it had never left her. Not truly. She carried it like a jewel sewed beneath her skin, carried it like a tumor that could not be removed.

But she could not dwell on it. Not when there was radio silence from both of her brothers, not when she began to suspect that the dreadful feeling that she carried was, despite everything, not because of them, but because of herself. And then one morning it dawned on her. Alwine Lechner was going to die. That was the meaning of it all. As though understanding somehow acknowledged it, the sensation she had felt for many days now beneath her skin had vanished almost entirely, leaving but a small echo. And there was nothing she could do about it.

When the mission to check the jungles of New Cov had arrived, Alwine gladly took it on. She was sufficiently experienced now with the Knights Obsidian to take such missions alone now, though the briefing had included a warning that some might join her. The meeting point scheduled was this place. Alwine had, as per her usual, arrived early, and taken a discreet seat in the corner, watching the exits. For a while, nothing happened.

And then that Jedi came in swords swinging, as a matter of speech.

Sighing, the woman rose to her full height of five feet, and walked to him. "You smell young and inexperienced," she commented, her facial expressions taking on the looks that might have reminded someone of a wolf. There was little about Alwine that was human, and right now she wanted the wolf to have a little bit of fun, "Not all those who enter the Jungle are found. What makes you believe that you will be an exception?"

Alden had been here before. New Cov. But it had been years beforehand. Years before he’d come to the Confederacy. Even before he’d first become a pilot in a home he no longer called his own anymore. And even in all that time, his desire to come back had never once slipped. It just so happened that he’d been tasked to come here now. So . . . it wasn’t an expedition here of pleasure nor want, but rather because there was something he was supposed to discover here. And in the cryptic terminology his master had often used with him - challenging his mind - Alden was suppose to discover that lesson on his own. So when tasked, Alden had made his way here, having arrived here the night prior, being allowed leave of his station as the commanding officer of the Core Sector Armada simply because of the strings his master had pulled. After all, there was no immediate threat of attack on his sector that intelligence had been able to uncover, and even if so, the Armada was in perfectly capable hands with his deputy in command for a short time.

Alden had already been in the cantina for an hour or so now, and even out of uniform as he was currently, it wasn’t likely that he had gone unnoticed. It’s rare that people in positions such as his own ever do - something he was becoming more and more accustomed to at this point in his career. Still, he didn’t go out of his way to draw any of it to himself.

He was taking a sip of his ale - unusual for a man that seldom took to having a drink - when the droid toasted the new arrival in an abrasive manner. For certain, that was not the kind of toast, nor the reception this Jedi had likely believed that he would have received, but perhaps it’s exactly what he’d expected.

It would come as no surprise to Alden as the crowd would growl with revelry, but mockingly so about the man and his desire to brave the jungle. However, not everyone partook in the badgering of the young man - the High Marshal among them. And then after a moment, whether through ego or foolish defiance, this man had identified himself as a Jedi. He managed to dull the roar of the cantina’s patron to a murmur in comparison to its previous level, but many still goaded and mocked this Jedi for his desire to test himself among the sprawling vines and trees. The various fauna that would likely not have his own best interests in mind.

But that was life, was it not?

Alden stood, leaving the mug of ale at the table, still half full with the ale. But, he wasn’t the only one to stand and approach the Jedi in question. No, a much smaller, wolfish woman had approached from a seat much closer to the man than his own. She was quite the petite figure, and Alden doubted she even eclipsed the five foot mark, but she carried herself in a way the demanded both attention and respect.

He hadn’t been able to catch the first bit of what the woman had said, but he was able to easily identify her as a member of the Confederacy’s Knights Obsidian Order by the armor that adorned her figure. Common Knights Obsidian garb from what Alden could discern with his limited exposure to those in the sect of the CIS. But as he caught her last few words, Alden couldn’t help but to chime in with a comment of his own.

“Because he’s got you,” he said jokingly, with a smile on his face.

In no small way he was delighted to be approached after the rather insulting announcement of his plans by the droid. While a bit petty Desken wished he hadnt had included the tip so readily for his drink. The first who approached had such a predatory nature that he almost failed to find the right words, instead a sheepish smile crossed his face. Though that might not have been the best sort of grin to give such a wolf like individual but at last he found his voice and simply replied with a soft laugh and a more playful grin "Well now I at last know that my scent matches my appearance, for quite some time I've wondered if the two matched. Its been no small worry that I might carry the air of someone who knew what they were doing" he joked happily taking another drink as for the next question he had been about to answer when yet another came up to speak to him. His eyes quickly taking in the newcomer and his grin widening even further as he looked "Oh...Oh!" he exclaims realization at last clicking in his mind.

"I take it you two are also here to join me on this little trip into nature?" he asks happily and he cast another eye over them both, taking in their well armored and armed appearance and while he let nothing show aside from that innocent smile of his he chastised himself in his mind. Of course they would be prepared for dangers, it was a dangerous planet! He suddenly felt a little under dressed with just his simple travelling robe and tunic, though he still carried his bandoleer of supplies across his chest. His own weapon was well hidden on his back, being a long handled saber he didn't much care for it to be smacking against his side or legs and instead his bandoleer included a harness that went around his back giving him a safe place to clip the weapon, and his robe hiding it well enough though when he moved his head a bit to the side the top of the weapons emitter could be seen for a moment. He gestured to the seats on either side of him as he spun back around digging into a pocket for some more credits "Drinks?" he asks cheerfully speaking as though they were both old friends that he hadn't seen in quite some time rather then the strangers they were.

"Hope I did not keep either of you waiting too long, to say I am excited about this little venture would be an understatement" he begins eagerly unable to stop his mouth. "Do you both realize how little of this planet is actually known? I mean, an entire jungle spans this entire world and these sorts of cities take up such a small fraction of land...force knows whats out there" he explains as he took another drink for himself and was willing to cover the expenses for theirs should they order. "The archives of the temples are so lacking about this place, such a crime not knowing I cant wait to at least start the process of understanding this world" he goes on, finally stopping his little rant of eagerness with a few gulps of his drink.

Alwine's gaze snapped to [member="Alden Akaran"] as he made his quip, her face almost contorting into a snarl. While she had indeed plans on going into the jungle, she had no love or appreciation to being ordered or expected play body guard to children while she did so. Of course, at the time being, she had no idea that Alden Akaran was technically above her in Confederate hierarchy. That was just one of those things that happened when one did not formally introduce themselves.

Turning her attention to the boy again, her eyes widened as he had somehow realized that the two of them were headed into the jungle? The petite Lupine blinked. When had she signed up for that? A moment later she found herself sitting in a booth, with drinks offered. Alwine wrapped her hands around a mug of piss poor ale and took a sip, her wolfish eyes still focused on the two men she was suddenly finding herself with.

Archives of the temple. He was a Jedi, then. Or someone with Jedi training. Alwine had never heard any Sith refer to a place of importance as a temple. But then why was he here alone and not with more people who were like him? Why did he not travel to Monastery instead?

"Why would I take you into the jungle with me?" she found herself asking before the other man had time to pitch in with his thoughts, "what do you even know of jungle survival? How do I know you will not become a liability, despite your Jedi training?"

Alden had a certain way of being able to tell about people and even though this Jedi seemed friendly and outgoing enough, packing an amount of courage someone else might consider foolish, Alden suspected that perhaps this man was not all he seemed to be. After all, looks can be deceiving, can they not? Not matter, such suspicions Alden pushed from his mind for the time as this Jedi serenading the two of them with what seemed to be a never ending chorus of thrill and exciting that appeared to be bubbling over and erupting from within.

‘And here I thought the Sith were strange,’ Alden managed to think to himself in reference to the young man. A young man, and seemingly self-proclaimed Jedi, that had an unmatched interest in just what was out there beyond the safety offered in asylums such as these. ‘Quite strange indeed.”

Alden shrugged and shook his head, declining the offer of drinks from the man.

A man that seldom indulged in the pleasures, if you could even call them that, alcohol, Alden wasn’t particularly one to find himself in a foothold such as this. A place which screamed of intoxication and dulled senses. Sluggish reflexes and self-loathing. No, bars were not his tramping ground and it was beyond him as to why he’d even chosen to take the time to come to this one. Perhaps it was simply because this planet offered him little outside of that. At least in this establishment he could more or less observe and study the people that came through. Even the droid seemed an interesting character to silently assess from the shadows.

It took a moment, but Alden offered a mocking smile to the petite, wolfish woman as she challenged both his and the Jedi’s ability to survive in the jungle. Survival was potentially something Alden had more knowledge of than any of the gathered here. After all, a man in his position was naturally required to continually be refreshed in such things. Whether is be jungle, desert, tundra or anything in between, Alden had been training in such scenarios for the greater part of his adult life. “Quite possibly more than the two of you combined, kid.” His words were straightforward and matter of fact in nature as they brushed past his lips. Alden wasn’t the type to hold his authority or standing within the Confederacy over anyone in any sort of boastful nature, but he would have it challenged. Especially by someone who apparently knew nothing of exactly who he was. He wasn’t hard to identify in this day and age, so such a stance proved one of two things in his mind. It was either a complete lack of respect or utter ignorance; he hoped it was the latter of the two. “And you would do well not to be so abrasive to someone you know nothing of,” he said. “Especially someone who hasn’t even given his name yet.”

He turned to the Jedi and offered a hand. “Alden,” he said, introducing himself to the Jedi, but loud enough so the tiny woman would hear as well.

If the comment on his skills bothered him the Jedi didnt let it show, if anything he grinned and gave the womens comment thought "Well I have taken various high risk hikes on Kashyyk, and I know a few things about staying alive when a great many things want to kill me" he joked taking another sip of his drink but when the man offered both his name and a hand which he took eagerly. "Desken" he replied cheerfully "Though usually people only use my full name when I'm in some sort of trouble so by all means shorten it to Des" he joked glancing towards the women wondering if she would join in the introductions.

"Though if it makes you feel better I did plan for this trip, to the best I could all things considered" he explained patting the bandoleer across his chest which contained many containers and pockets. It stretched across his chest from his right shoulder to left hip and while the harness that held his saber was on his back it was part of the same piece to keep both supplies and weapon close. "I dont know what your own goals are in the jungle but I just seek to add a few actual entries to my temples codex aside from" he took a moment to clear his throat and his tone became monotone and mocking "The planet is home to many hostile species of flora and fauna" then the Jedi shook his head annoyed "Not one named species! Plant or animal!" he groans clearly annoyed but he recovered after a moment he composed

"Make no mistake I wont drag either of you into the jungle but I did think having some company for this little....I guess high risk nature walk would be the best title" he mused for a moment before refocusing "And if we do travel together then dont worry if I cant hold my own I fully expect you to abandon me" he offered with an honest grin on his face to Alwine
