STANDARD FEATURES

ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Strengths:

  • Fighter Power House: Each Enclave is extensively hollowed out so that most of internal volume is occupied by starfighter hangars, allowing it to host a relatively large starfighter host.

  • Bulwark: The Enclave is an extremely durable platform, capable of absorbing large amounts of punishment thanks to an interlocked network of redundant shield generators and an anti-concussion field generator.
Weaknesses:

  • Toothless: The Enclave does not have any sort of weapons systems on its own, relying exclusively on friendly ships to provide any sort of firepower.

  • Relatively Static: While the Enclave can slightly alter its trajectory via its internal repulsorlift generator, it is largely an immobile platform. Any starship or object with a dedicated propulsion system can easily catch up to it.
Description:

Using hollowed out asteroids as the basis of space stations is an idea that is millenia old. Unsurprisingly then, the Enclave-series isn't a specific model of space station (as each asteroid is unique) but rather a common set of specifications of smaller corvette-sized asteroids converted to space-going hangars by Lucerne Labs. Many of these asteroids are already hollowed out by mining operations or already have existing natural caverns. In many of these instances, the conversion is relatively simple: the existing space is simply remodeled with the needed equipment and structural modifications. Most stations though need at least some excavation though, some more than others. Once the internal space needed is obtained, key corridors and rooms are reinforced with ferrocarbon bracing to increase structural strength. This reinforcement is then covered in agrinicrete to improve radiation resistance, making these ad hoc stations more safe for organic habitation. Other basic systems are then added such as life support, crew cabins, artificial gravity, repulsorlifts as well as multilayered shield generator and anti-concussion field generator networks. But these systems are a secondary concern to the Enclave's primary function as a space-going hangar.

A large portion of each Enclave's internal space is dedicated to holding four squadrons of small craft such as starfighters, gunships, and armed transports along with the facilities needed to support their operations. These hangar facilities include dedicated repair droid bays, fueling points, munitions lockers, automated fire suppression systems, and briefing rooms. While the Enclave has one central hangar, depending on the individual asteroid, there may be anywhere from one to three starship exits. Each exit has a thick, turadium blast door along with several small tractor beams to help guide starships into the hangar.

Tactically, Enclaves are typically used as basic hangars to house starfighters defending strategic locations. In most instances, these starships are scrambled as soon as a threat presents itself. However, some wily tacticians will keep their starfighters housed in the Enclave until the last minute, as Enclaves are often virtually indistinguishable from other nearby civilian asteroid stations because they lack any sort of weaponry or offensive systems. However, this lack of weapons and engines are also the Enclave's greatest weakness. The station has no active means of defense aside from its starship complement and a small security platoon (typically battle droids). Because of these limitations, Enclaves are typically not employed alone, but rather act as supplements to existing defenses such as dedicated battle stations, minefields, or defense fleets.
