The Empire of Tsuranuanni
The Wheel of Life turns, and the Great Game of the Council has entered a new era. Noble families struggle against one another in the shadows of their world, fighting for honor and survival in equal measures against foes who desire to take both. Outright war is outlawed as it has always been, but a blade in the darkness is just as lethal as a blade carried in open battle. Families will rise and fall in this new age, and only those with the will to survive, the knowledge to thrive, and the determination to rule will survive to carry on the honor of their families. Those that fall shall be less than dust in the eyes of their friends and foes alike and will be forgotten until the Wheel turns once more.

The Game of the Council begins now.

Hello! So, as the title suggests this is a project that I have been wanting to try here on the site for a while, and now that I have time from my hectic work schedule I want to try and get it started. The idea is based on a book series, so if you know the Riftwar Saga then you will have a pretty good idea of what I am aiming for here, but for everyone else do not fear, I will do my best to explain here.

The Empire of Tsuranuanni is based loosely on Feudal Japan as you can probably guess, with individual families, known as Houses, ruling land within that Empire. Houses work much as they do in Game of Thrones to an extent, though instead of drafting levies in times of war, there is a dedicated class of warriors within society that pledge to the various Houses. Individual Houses are each part of larger Clans, loose confederations of Houses with blood relations to one another. Houses can also join political parties, which will play a larger part within the Great Game of the Council. What is that you may ask? Well, it's quite simple in a very not simple way at all.

The Great Game of the Council is how the individual Houses wage war against one another. Open war is generally frowned upon as a great disturbance of the Imperial peace, so blood feuds and grudges must be settled in backroom battles. Attacking a rival Houses economic enterprises through covert raids, undercutting their prices at the markets to gain an edge there, or even just securing alliances with other Houses to pressure your rival into submission through the sheer threat of overwhelming force. There are many avenues one may take to achieve their goals, but the proper forms must be followed or risk Imperial response.

As for the society of the Empire, individual and family Honor is of the utmost importance. Maintaining the honor of one's House is the primary focus of any ruling lord or lady, and the threat that their actions could dishonor their ancestors could very well lead them to take their own lives. This system of honor carries down to the warriors, servants, and slaves within each House, each of whom would rather sacrifice their own lives than to bring dishonor to their House. This in of itself opens up many avenues for writers to explore, as well as create an exciting backdrop to keep everyone focused on the story. Writers can take the role of ruling lords and ladies of Houses, noble warriors dedicated to those Houses, or even a Great One, one of the Force users of the Empire who is outside the law of the land.

If you would potentially be interested in this project, or have any questions, please let me know down below or message me!

Sounds interesting. I am definitely interested in it. It sounds really cool! I do have a few questions though:

Since it is an Empire, who is the standing ruler of it?

When you say that the proper forms must be followed or risk imperial response, does that mean that troops under the ruler will come, or does it mean something else? Sorry, but that part feels vague to me.

What would open if there was open war?

Where does that dedicated society of warriors come from? Are they selected? Are they from the Empire as a whole? Or were they selected by different Clans and Houses?

How would a character IC get placed into a house?

It sounds fun, so I'm very interested. ;)

Glad to see some interest!

The standing ruler is a complicated question. The Warlord is the elected leader of the Council, a body of every ruling lord and lady in the Empire who theoretically makes the laws. There is an Emperor, but he is seen as a more ceremonial head of state, and the leader of the Empire's religious institutions, and in charge of maintaining the honor of the Empire as a whole. The Warlord is in charge of overseeing the political, economical, and military aspects of the Empire.

Open war between two houses would be costly, as any conflict would weaken both Houses and leave them open for neighboring Houses to move in and take their lands. The chain reaction effect here could be potentially disastrous and throw the Empire into an economic downfall. As such, an open war between Houses is discouraged by the Warlord, who will send his own forces in to settle any conflicts. However, if matters of honor are the reason for the war, then exceptions could be made. Such a thing would be a Call to Clan when the honor of one House can be said to be at risk, and since Clans are related by blood, then their honor as well is at risk. Clan wars are too large for even the Warlord to stop, but their outcomes are even more dangerous than a simple House war.

Bit of a weird way, hope I explained it a bit.

The warriors are similar to that of Samurai. Warriors are placed above servants and slaves in society, but not considered nobility. A father is pledged to a single House and will fight for them until his death. His firstborn son will follow his father into service, but any following sons have the opportunity to leave and pledge their loyalty and honor to another House of their choosing. This helps spread out and maintain a diverse and large population of warriors, all of whom will never progress in life further than being a warrior. This warrior class has its roots going back to the founding of the Empire, and as such their place in society is one of the most stable and constant.

For outsiders, a player could be adopted into a House, and in doing so pledge their life and duty to uphold the honor of their new House. More commonly though people are born into the House, as it is a tightly knit family structure.

Another piece of info, while I plan on most of the threads and stories to be dedicated to the intrigues inside the Empire, I am also open to the thought that the Empire of Tsuranuanni could have interactions with other factions on the site. Peaceful ties, or even large wars led by the Warlord against other nations to expand the Empires control and enforce the honor and duty of the Empire on others. But even this would all be part of the Great Game of the Council. Battles could be sabotaged by a House to discredit another, or a rival could be abandoned on the field, leading to the death of their lord and army, allowing their rival to makes moves back in their home.

Okay, cool! Sounds great. Well, I guess my guy Red here will have to be adopted into a House, seeing as how he would be an outsider and all. Probably as a warrior, but maybe not, seeing as how you can't progress or anything past warrior. Warriors are like Samurai, huh? Red's more of a Ninja, not like a grunt infantry soldier, but like a special forces commando, trained for things normal soldiers could not achieve. You got any Special Forces type of stuff in there? Nobility could be cool, too, but being adopted into the House would most likely keep that from happening.

You also say something about being something called a Great One. What is that all about?

Still, sounds cool! When do you think you could get this ready to go? I'm excited to see where it will go.

Well if you are adopted into a House you would become part of the ruling family, the people the House is named after, and as such would have a bit more room to do as you wish. You could fight with the soldiers in the field, ply your trade as a spy or infiltrator in the name of your House, or even just muck about the galaxy trying to secure ties and allies for the Great Game. The nobility is the families within the House. The ruling Lord, his wife, and their children are the nobility within the Empire, and each house is led by this kind of family group. It's a complicated structure with multiple levels. Warriors, servants, and slaves serve the House and are part of it, but they are not the 'House' itself. The ruling family is considered to be the 'House' but everyone who serves it is also part of the House. It is a weird little system.

For example, my character will be the ruling Lord of House Kirionaka. They will be part of Clan Acoma and will be within the Blue Wheel party of the Imperial political system. Their warriors wear red and black armor, and their House seal is a red gundark head.

Great Ones are 'Magicians' to the Tsuranuanni, but the rest of the galaxy knows them as simple Force Users. They are in an institution outside of the Empire, known as the Assembly, that oversees the growth and preservation of the Empire. The laws of the Empire do not count for the Great Ones, and they can go or do as they wish, as long as their actions are within the name of the greater good of Tsuranuanni. The Emperor is the only check for the Assembly, however, as he has the authority to order every House in the Empire, in the name of their Gods, to march on the Assembly and put them back in their place, as servants rather than lords. It is a careful balance established over many centuries of growth.

As for getting started, I wish to wait and get a few more people interested who would want to create Houses and characters born in the Empire, that way we can flesh out the world it will be in and create a compelling and driving series of plots.

Oh, and a minor tidbit, Tsuranuanni warriors generally do not use blaster rifles. Such combat is less honorable than melee, and as such, they prefer to use force imbued steel katana like swords.

Hello, thanks for your interest! Got any questions?

Yes, thus sounds great! So I have a question, would it be possible to create a House centered around Savik or make a new Charecther and make him a Lord?

Down the line as the Empire begins to open up to the rest of the galaxy, I would be down for outsiders to make new Houses. However at the start here the Tsuranuanni see outsiders as barbarians. So for now probably best to make a new Lord.

Yes, that makes sense. Well, sort of. I'm still really confused. You're right. It is all pretty complex and weird, and it feels like there's a lot of exceptions and stuff like that. I'm going to need to write everything down...

Okay, more questions. Yeah, I know. Yay. But seriously, I just need to get together some stuff in my head on on this, apparently going to be a twenty page essay on this thing.

First, is there only one family in a House, or are there more than one, or is it all one combined family? I'm thinking it's the first one. What are the ruling system within the House? Like, is it sort of like going from King or Queen, to Prince, to Duke, and so on and so forth?

Next, is there an overarching ruler in Clans and Political parties, or is it more divided rulings, like a Senate or a Council?

Who all can become Great Ones? Could they be outsiders?

Swords, huh? Alright, works for me. I might create a character for this, too. But first I'll plant Red in there somewhere, get used to it, and then see where I would go from there.

One Family per house. IE, Ignis would be part of House Imura.

Clans is where there are multiple houses. For instance, House Imura could be in the same clan as Jiro Kirionaka and his house. As lets say his sister is married to me. Thus related by marriage, and bound by honor.

He already mentioned Outsiders are a rare occurrence. So an Outsider Great One whose only check is the emperor/empress themselves would likely be looked highly down upon.

If you are invested in this, I recommend instead making a brand new character and see if you like it before making one of your main characters be tied in more things than one. Considering you are a Jedi, and a Soldier. Too many places at once with one character can cause conflict of interest.

Jiro, as you can tell, I would be more than up for this.

Ignis has the idea here. On top of that, marriage is a bit different in Tsuranuanni culture. Ruling Lords and Ladies can take consorts, second or third sons and daughter of other Houses. They are basically the spouse of the ruler, but they do not hold the same rank or surpass the House they have married in to. Kind of how the British Monarchy works in a way. So ruling families tend to be large but very spread out, with numerous ties and bonds.

As for Clan leadership, each Clan is largely an independently operated thing. Houses do as they wish, but there is a theoretical leader. The strongest military House in a Clan, or whoever the Clan votes for, is seen as the Warchief. When Clan wars erupt, it is the Warchief who organizes and sees to the military strategy of the entire Clan.

As Great Ones are outside the law, anyone with force powers is potentially able to become a Great One. But, outsiders are barbarians at the moment so sketchy prospect.

And glad to see your interest.

Alright, thank you both for the clarification. That clears it all up. I have no more questions. Sounds complex, but I think I have it all done. As of creating a new character, we'll see. Right now, three characters is my max, it's my capacity as of right now. I do already have another character ready to go that isn't as busy as Red. We'll see when this thing comes out.

Here is a link for Kelewan, the homeworld of the Empire of Tsurannuani, and a bit of history that can be used for creating characters.

Love this. I'll start thinking up a new character so I can join in!

Would also love to have this character take part at some point farther down the road. A Harch in traditional garment fighting with swords and spears is a writing opportunity I can't pass up lol
