OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Spaceport Name: Ember
  • Location: Alaris Prime
  • Affiliation: Silver Jedi Concord
  • Classification: Standard Class
  • Population: Sparsely Staffed
  • Accessibility: Public Access. The starport was the only port of embarkation servicing the moon of Alaris Prime as of 874 ABY.
  • Traffic: Low
  • Description: Built upon the bones of an ancient outpost dating back to the Clone Wars, Ember was a small spaceport by galactic standards, with the majority of stellar traffic in the Kashyyyk System avoiding the Alaris Expanse. While some tourists ventured here to experience the hunting grounds or the Dathomiri shamanism, most of the traffic that flowed through the spaceport were traveling heading to or from either Kamar Taj or the moon's Wookiee village.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Docking Bays. The main fixture and purpose around which Ember was constructed. Docking bays are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate small and medium-sized stellar craft. Depot-level repairs are available, using mostly droid labor.
  • The Expanse (Cantina). As the Mistwalkers have a communal culture around meals and Wookiees are a hunter-gatherer society, The Expanse is the only cantina one will find on the forest moon. A Corellian-themed bar, The Expanse offers food as well as drinks, but clearly caters more to the drunken spacer crowd. This is not fine dining.
  • Antarian Ranger Station. A detachment of Antarian Rangers from Kashyyyk provides both Concord law enforcement and life-saving services for the moon.
  • Biscuit Baron. The only fast food joint you'll find on the planet.
  • Starblasts Caf. Arguably the most upscale establishment on the moon, being both a HoloNet cafe and bistro. The caf is overpriced, not to mention burnt, but draws its clientele from the younger Wookiees and Dathomirians who come there to check their holomail and social media accounts.
  • Motel Six Express. While the Wookiees and the Dathomirians will gladly put up visitors, some people actually like modern conveniences. It's not five-star, but there's a free continental breakfast.
SECURITY
Low.
This is a sleepy little port, particularly compared to other ports inside the Kashyyyk System. The Antarian Ranger detachment controls an external shield generator that could provide a ray shield as a temporary measure against attack, while planetary defense features a singular ion cannon and only a pair of autoturrets. The low traffic and honor-bound societies present in both the Dathomiri and the Wookiees breed a false sense of security. While it is true that one is not likely to be pickpocketed in Kamar Taj or the Wookiee village, that is not true here. This is the last bastion of civilization -- for good and for ill.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
This section of the mountain range on Alaris' moon was cleared to create a Separatist foothold within the Kashyyyk System during the Clone Wars, not only to prepare for the Battle of Kashyyyk but also to wage a resource war against the Wookiee colonists present on the moon, which followed earlier attempts by the Trade Federation to establish a base on Alaris Prime. After the Clone Wars, the base fell into disuse and was abandoned, making it a shadowport of opportunity by smuggler's using the Alaris Expanse to hide from Imperial patrols in the sector. By the time of the Four Hundred Years Darkness, the ruins were uninhabitable from centuries of poor upkeep and disuse.

Following the establishment of Kamar Taj and the reconstruction of the Jedi Temple on Alaris Prime, the need for a more permanent spaceport presented itself. As neither the Dathomirians nor the Wookiee villagers cared to have such a port near their homes, the project looked for suitable locations elsewhere on the moon. With its available clearance from orbit and the ease of approach by air, the abandoned Separatist base was the ideal candidate. Located within commuting distance to either of the settlements, Ember (as it is called today) provides the last bastion of civilization for those arriving from off-world.
