SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Automatic Ammunition Feed and Receiver System
  • Quick-charging Electromagnetic Coils
  • Contains side links to combine multiple weapons on a single platform

Strengths:
  • Armor Penetration: With a projectile speed of 2.8km/s thanks to the electromagnetic coil system, slugs fired by the EKR-30r are more than capable of penetrating highly dense infantry armor and light vehicles.
  • Speed-Derived Accuracy: Due to the high speed of its projectiles the EKR-30r is highly accurate against both ground and air targets, being very difficult to avoid.
  • Lack of Recoil: The EKR-30r is designed to be operated as a mounted weapons system rather than being usable on its own, neutralizing recoil much unlike its predecessor, the EKR-30.
Weaknesses:
  • Reload Speed: The automatic feed system needs to be taken apart in order to reload the weapon, which is a timely process taking up to a minute for even a trained crew. In a combat situation an EKR-30r on a ground turret is highly vulnerable during the reloading period.
  • Slow Fire Rate: Due to the need to charge its magnetic coils in order to fire slugs at speeds high enough to penetrate vehicle armor, the EKR-30r fires only one round every 2 seconds, a rate which is much slower than many automatic mounted weapons.
  • Fragile Coils: While the weapon itself has a strong alusteel frame, the internal magnetic coils are very fragile, with even a single blaster bolt strike to the frame being enough to dislodge or break one of the coils. With just one broken the weapon will be unable to fire, and as the coils cannot be replaced without taking apart the weapon, it will not be usable again until taken out of battle and repaired.

DESCRIPTION

Judging on the success of the EKR-30 kinetic rifle, EODD decided to take that weapon and put it in a smaller package for mounting on turrets and ships. The result was the EKR-30r, a smaller weapon that trades off half of the original weapon’s power for a significantly lighter weapon. Operating quite differently from the original weapon, the EKR-30r benefits from an a streamlined coil system which allows for significantly quicker charging than its larger predecessor at 1 round every 2 seconds, though this is still much lower than your typical blaster or slugthrower.

The slow fire rate however is made up for by its penetrating power and projectile speed, firing a 30x45mm slug at 2.8km/s, which is enough to penetrate most standard vehicle and personal armors. While it isn’t the most powerful weapon of its kind on the market, lacking the extreme speed and power of its predecessor, this allows it to remain a threat despite the smaller size. Its accuracy, however, does not suffer at all from this change, retaining pinpoint precision due to the high speed of the projectile.

In order to take advantage of the quick-charging coils, the EKR-30r contains an automatic ammunition feeding system, which moves the slugs along a feeder from its storage unit into the receiver while the coils charge up after firing the previous round. These slugs are moved into the chamber via an external power supply, and each weapon can be fitted with most standard power cells in order to work the feed, or instead be connected to a ship or vehicle power generator.
