Lilla knew little practically about the Republic. She understood a lot from the history books — given she’d been schooled on the Governess’ Academy on Tatooine. There she’d studied both the theory of politics as well as the history of them.
But since joining the Republic Remnant, she’d heard plenty of hearsay and rhetoric about the Galactic Republic in its latter years. Some blamed the Jedi. Others blamed the military. But most pointed the finger at the politicians.
Lilla was never going to take sides on that debate. The past was the past, and she was here to serve the present — not decide who was most at fault in years gone by.
Which, perhaps, was the main reason she was here in the Colonies. On Hok, to be precise. It was a strange planet — one side was a desert wasteland that reminded her of home, while the other half was surrounded by pure darkness.
Its principal export — apart from pod racers — was crystals, and given Lilla’s previous experience in negotiating with miners, guilds and corporations, she suspected this was another reason for her selection.
So she guided her ship to the appointed docking bay of the spaceport, wondering who would be there to greet her, and what the mission was — given she’d been given no firm details as yet.
