Strengths:

• Lone Wolf: With a powerful array of weapons and the support of a fighter squadron, the Nebulon-A was a capable escort and patrol vessel all around
• Speed: Its moderately powerful ion engines allowed it to keep pace with many large capital ships

Weaknesses:

• Spar: Though armored from certain angles, the large spar that connected the engines to the rest of the ship if broken would vent large portions of the vessel, causing catastrophic destruction.
• Slave Rigged: Due to the nature of slave rigging tactics like tactical EMPs, ion weapons, and electronic warfare suites could severely cripple the vessel more than normal.

Description: The EF96 Nebulon-A Escort Frigate was first drafted in the last few years of the Galactic Alliance before the galactic government fell at the hands of the Imperial Bloc. Originally intended to see use in the war against the First Order and the Sith Empire as a fast attack and support ship, the Nebulon-A was regrettably scrapped. After its string of publicly available capital ships became popular in neutral systems, Kuat decided that it didn't need a galactic government to fund its passion for design. Thus the Nebulan-A Escort Frigate was pushed into production.

At 500 meters long the Nebulon-A teetered the line between cruiser and frigate. Its long and elegant frame was heavily armored and shielded, reinforcing the spar that was usually such a prominent weak point in their Nebulon-series frigates. The vessel boasted powerful turbolaser batteries, missile tubes, and laser cannons, allowing it to pull double duty as both an escort and patrol ship with its relatively heavy armament offering it the opportunity to fight off vessels larger than itself in combat. Along the spar of the vessel housed the ship's fighter bay which stock came equipped to house Kuat Drive Yards fighters and some TIE variants though could easily be modified to house fighters of a variety of types and classes along with several small shuttles. The complicated hangar bay system included a series of garages and elevators which moved fighters and shuttles out of the way when doing repairs or maintenance.

Much of the crew quarters were held in the forward blade section along with the embarked troop barracks which could hold 200 troops. Like many of the recent editions to Kuat Drive Yards' portfolio, the Nebulon-A utilized slave rigged systems in its targeting, navigation, and general systems to reduce the intensive crew count a vessel like this could take on a local planetary government. Taking a cue from their competitors, the Nebulon-A also had powerful tractor beams and long range support systems such as advanced communication arrays and deep-space multifrequency antennae.

The Nebulon-A could serve faithfully patrolling space lanes alone or as part of a formation and often times were the pride and joy of small private navies or pirate fleets. Several smaller governments utilized the frigates as well such as the Corellian Confederation where they used it as a support vessel, oftentimes replacing Kuat Drive Yards' Bador-class light cruiser.
