Description: The ECM-3 is a comm unit attachment designed for direct wave communication (such as tropospheric scatter and point-to-point/line-of-sight relaying) and free-space optical communication via infrared laser beam. Its radio transceiver expands upon the frequency range of the ECU-1, allowing it to broadcast and receive microwave signals. Its radiowave frequencrange reaches from 280,000,000 Hertz (VHF) to 300,000,000,000 Hertz (EHF) and it has the power to directly transmit to and receive signals from objects in orbit of most planets with Type I, Type II, and Type III atmospheres. Infrared beams generally have the same range but are more prone to being interrupted by solid objects.
While created for the ECU-1 in particular, the SunComm's compatibility is not exclusive to ECHO Esprit's radio units, and can also send and receive holocomm data for visual as well as vocal communication.
The SunComm has the distinct shape of a flower with a full 'petal' diameter of 20 centimeters. Its radio dish petals fold in for transport and safekeeping.
