OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a unique, pulsar system.
  • Image Credit: Kepler-20e, Here, Here
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Sandknight
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Planet Name: Echilon
  • Demonym: Echilons
  • Region: Unknown Regions
  • System Name: Hyfire
  • System Features: Sun: Hyfire (pulsar star), Echilon (Tidally locked, habitable world), 3 other rocky planets and an asteroid belt.
  • Location:
    unknown.png
  • Major Imports: Almost everything.
  • Major Exports: Research, Fungus
  • Unexploited Resources: Plasmas, Durasteel (Both sun side)
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
  • Gravity: 0.86g
  • Climate: Similar climates to earth, but major differences in positioning thanks to the world being tidally locked. There is one ice cap on in the center of the dark side, and the climate changes slowly to arid the closer to the light side you get. The light side is a massive lava field.
  • Primary Terrain: Mixture
  • Atmosphere: Type I, here
LOCATION INFORMATION
  • Capital City: Post Alpha
  • Planetary Features: Echilon has some scattered research stations, most notably Post Alpha. It also possesses various climate rims in the Dark Side, each getting progressively colder. While not necessarily a planetary feature, it is important to note that Hyfire releases powerful stellar storms, making the system difficult to navigate, and jumping directly to Echilon very difficult. This also generally limits vessels to frigates and smaller, as vessels at cruiser scale and up lack the needed agility and speed to navigate the storms.
  • Major Locations:
    • Post Alpha: Post Alpha is the primary settlement on Echilon. The research post turned capital city is built on the northern pole of the world, in the Arid Rim. The post was the first research center built on strange world, and has since grown into a true city. Having no "dominant" species like most other posts on Echilon. Post Alpha has also become the most active place on the planet.
    • The Light Side: Perpetually facing Hyfire, the Light Side of Echilon is a molten mess of lava, and bare rock around the longitudinal equator. This side of the tidally locked world is uninhabitable, not only constantly being showered by light, but also taking the blasts of Hyfire's solar storms. Ironically, this inhospitable land is why Echilon is habitable, and provides much of the planet's heat.
    • Arid Rim: The edge of the Echilon's Dark Side, this hot desert rim is also called the Twilight Rim, as it is the only part of Echilons Dark Side with any light. Some creatures here have rudimentary eyes, but more than half lack them.
    • Temperate Rim: The next notable rim, the Temperate Rim is full of forests, jungles, and grasslands, and has come lakes, ponds, rivers, and oceans. While it is the most habitable region of the Dark Side, it sees no light, and most of the creatures there have no eyes, or rudimentary light sensing organs.
    • Arctic Region: The largest of the "rims" the Arctic Region is the most inhospitable of the rims. Cold, windy, and doesn't even get the typical ice cap's auroras. In fact, the center of the Arctic Region is consider unlivable to anything, organic or mechanical.

POPULATION
  • Native Species: Sandknight, various fungal species
  • Immigrated Species: Various sentient researchers and families.
  • Population: Sparse
  • Demographics: Mixture of multiple sentient species. No single dominant sentient species.
  • Primary Languages: Galactic Basic
  • Culture: The general culture of Echilon isn't much different from other colony world. The eternal night of the habitable Dark Side has lead to an interesting, almost nonstop culture, and do to their being almost no set time to be awake and sleep neighbors may never even see each other, as while one sleeps the other could be awake. As the planet is still mostly research based, the posts are heavily focused on learning about the world, and discovering various new species on the planet. Many have also noted that leaving the posts can be dangerous, thanks to the various Ehilon Stalker subspecies.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: Post Alpha, along with a some of the other posts, has developed into a democratic republic type government thanks to development moving beyond it's simple role as a research stations. Other posts on Echilon, however, have kept a corporate/rank based form of government, either do to dangers in the area, or not really gone beyond being a research post.
  • Affiliation: Multiple research groups.
  • Wealth: Medium The researchers that live on the world are by no means rich, but they aren't poor either.
  • Stability: High Due to the world mostly being research based at the moment, the various posts are highly stable.
  • Freedom & Oppression: The planet is most free for the researchers and their families, but it is noted that permission is needed to leave the safe areas around the posts.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
  • Military: Limited defense forces.
  • Technology: Galactic Standard
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Echilon has been a mysterious world ever since its discovery. Strange in the fact that it is both molten and livable at the same time, the "eyeball" planet was discovered to be a tidally locked world, allowing it to survive in its strange state. Research on the world started slowly, with the largest issue being the highly active pulsar star, Hyfire, that houses the system. The star not only emitted a pair of neutron beams, but also powerful stellar storms, making travel through the system dangerous, and even impossible for any vessel larger than a frigate to pass through the system.

After its discovery, a research group sent teams to go explore the strange world, and discover if there was anything of scientific or monetary value there. The researchers on Echilon began to find interesting flora and fauna. They began to find that most flora on the world was fungal, and fauna lacked eyes, or only possessed rudimentary light sensitive organs. Even one originally more terrifying species, the Sandknight, was found to be a plant eater.

Over the years, the old research posts have become cities in their own right, though the world is still sparsely populated. The world has also still had to contend with Hyfire's deadly nature, and has in turn made the Echilon a rarely visited place. Most who travel there are looking to hide from the rest of the galaxy, or looking to explore the interesting eternal night of the Dark Side.

  • Government: Somewhat Corporate, somewhat by rank. Post Alpha has developed into a democratic republic type government thanks to development.
Could you please elaborate on this a bit? A corporatist, hierarchial sort of government does not sound democratic. You say Post Alpha is democratic, but far as I can tell it's the main settlement on the planet. So are there places where a corporate-based hierarchy still holds sway?

  • Affiliation: Multiple research groups.
Are any of these Chaos Canon or Legends/Canon ones? If, yes, please link. If that's not the case, this is fine.

  • Planet Name: Echilon
  • Demonym: Echion
Since the planet is called Echilon, wouldn't the inhabitants be called something like Echiloni? Or Echilons.
