In the time of the Compact, with the need to expand, Niamh was placed in charge of both the Drive Yards and EchaniTech, which was a subsidiary of the Drive Yards. The company was responsible for developing things such as the upgraded Echani personal shields and the Echani Mimic Battle Units. They were not the smallest of companies, but they also weren't of the scale of the Drive Yards, which was why the Drive Yards owned them, but allowed them to keep their own name.
While the Compact eventually dissolved into the Republic, the Drive Yards were subsequently purchased by Silk. Niamh was allowed to retain ownership of EchaniTech, while working to create contracts between them/Silk and the Republic. This allows her continued access to the ability to construct armor and droids for the Republic, while ship designs are submitted to the Republic Naval command for approval, but are built by the Eshan Drive Yards, which are owned by Silk. EchaniTech fills a Silk niche, but also contributes to contract negotiations for Silk and Republic business needs.
