The battle for Brosi was over. The Imperials, their ranks broken by the zombies and Sithsawn hordes in Shoengen, had collapsed and fallen into retreat. Still, even with victory secured, the forests around the capital city crawled with the remnants of the invading force. Small groups of Imperials lingered on the planet in roving pockets, attempting to secure whatever transport they could find to make it off-world.

Glissara made her way through the outpost at a blistering pace akin to the speed of a galloping horse—which for her was simply a breezy, casual jog—blitzing past troopers before entering into the command tent at the center of the encampment. She had been deployed to Brosi as a solo asset. However, for this particular mission she was set to work with a partner from outside the elite ranks of the Shatter Vectors.

Even so, she had no reason to expect that they would slow her down.

“Trooper Glissara.” A calm, feminine voice cut through the low hum of tactical readouts. An Askajian mission specialist emerged from behind the soft blue glow of a holoprojection, offering Glissara a datapad as she did. “Welcome. We don’t have much time.” She added.

“Who am I working with?” Glissara was already poring over the datapad, absorbing the mission parameters with swift, practiced ease. The mission was a pursuit operation: an Imperial officer had escaped into the forest with data retrieved from the Conglomerate Mega-Tower. Her objective was to intercept the officer and his escort before he reached the mountains.

Failure to stop the officer would risk the data being irrevocably compromised and transmitted to the Confederation.

“He is en route,” the analyst said. “Acolyte Lysander von Ascania. I will begin the full briefing when he arrives,” she added.

Glissara glanced up, a delicately arched eyebrow rising like a challenge from beneath the fringe of her bangs. “He can keep up, then.” She said, less a question and more a statement of requirement—a line drawn in the briefing material itself.

“Right?”

The battle on Brosi was now Lysander’s second in service to the Order. In the aftermath, the forest around him still breathed with life, and he was quite certain, Sithspawn were still prowling everywhere hungrily.

With Madrona A’Mia soon to ascend as governor, it became rather clear that his station on Brosi would become permanent, where his own roots would deepen. In truth, part of him even welcomed this change; escaping Korriban's suffocating atmosphere allowed more chances for discovery. And now, he was provided an opportunity to map and better understand the planet’s terrain, which sounded far more exciting than reading from the holoarchive.

Yet Brosi remained one of the Holy Worlds, where it seemed one doctrine breathed into every Sith’s soul. It was one he did not embrace, already loyal to another. But after being summoned by his mentor’s hand, he quelled all judgment, choosing to view this as another lesson.

This mission crashed far outside his usual sphere; the teen's studies for so long revolved around dueling and political machinations.

Donning the Sith Trooper armor issued by Kor’ethyr Academy, Lysander arrived on a scout speeder, rolling off with grace, boots kissing the soil. He was already judging himself late. So, with long strides, he approached the tent, his precision rifle slung across his back, barrel tilted skyward. Cradled under one arm was his helm that bore fresh scars.

His entrance inside was quiet. The mission specialist looked up from a flickering datapad. In three beats, he absorbed everything with acute awareness.

The acolyte's gaze remained steady, framed by lips that were relaxed, yet hinted at a ghostly smirk which played upon their edges. His brows neither furrowed nor lifted, while his tresses of blonde hair softened the sharp angles of a face yet to be ravaged by time.

Stepping forward, he pronounced the one protocol word that mattered.

“von Ascania.”

The name tasted bitter, a weight he did not seek, and no longer cherished.

Mission by mission, he would shed it entirely and carve a new identity.

“Someone’s coming.”

A moment later, a figure ducked inside, clad in the grim, familiar armor of the Immortal Legions. Glissara looked towards him with an expectant gaze before he identified himself as Acolyte von Ascania, at which point her expression softened as she registered the smirk teasing on his lips. From there, the small-statured Jango Jumper took in his appearance with a swift, yet curious appraisal. Blonde hair. Sharp, chiseled features. Green eyes.

A subtle, almost imperceptible smile touched the corners of her lips before she turned and offered a sharp nod to the mission specialist.

“Let’s begin,” the Askajian began, before handing the Acolyte a datapad. “An Imperial officer has made off with data from the Conglomerate Mega-Tower. He and his escort, which we believe is roughly a small company-sized force, is as of this moment moving through these forests.” She explained. The mission specialist tapped a few buttons on the control console, bringing up a three-dimensional holomap of the Blan Forest, with red dots representing the estimated locations of the Imperial holdouts and remnants in the area. “This group,” she pointed out a series of green dots on the projection, “is our target.”

Glissara studied the projection, lilac-hued eyes narrowing with focused intensity. She tilted her head to the side, honing in on the green dots in the manner of a predator assessing the path of her prey.

“What kind of forces can we expect to encounter among the officer’s escort?” Glissara piped up, her voice cutting through the hum of the console.

“Stormtroopers. Guard troopers. Light vehicles.” The mission specialist replied, before pressing on. “Your mission is to pursue, intercept, and terminate this group, before they reach the mountains, while also destroying the stolen data in the process. We have intelligence suggesting that they intend to utilize the higher elevation to escape our signal jammers, allowing them to transmit the stolen data to Imperial networks.”

The mission specialist paused then, letting the implication of her words hang in the air.

“Are we clear? Any further questions?”

Familiar tension compressed in his body. Lysander extended a gloved hand toward the specialist; not in camaraderie, but in ritual. He rolled his shoulders back to stretch; not for ease, but for control.

When the Askajian outlined the mission, shards of memory ignited behind the teen's eyes. He recalled the bolts zipping through the air, the hiss of Sithspawn that reverberated in his ears, mingling with the searing heat from when the forest had been set ablaze. Everything had been a scramble within Shoengen's city limits.

A slow breath escaped through Lysander's nose. In the recesses of his mind, he willed the echoes of recent combat to fade, slithering away like shadows. Each inhale that followed aided him in becoming grounded, pulling his scattered self back into the tent, back to the mission at hand. He'd experienced something similar after Woostri, but for some reason, the events on Brosi felt heavier, like ash that clung to the soul.

Brows relaxing, eyes sharpening, he began reflecting on the only thing that mattered.. mission success. Glancing back up, the faint blue glow of the holomap reflected in his eyes, an ethereal light casting the patterns of terrain that danced in his gaze. In that radiance, his youthful features softened a bit. Lips parted, and a sigh born of curiosity escaping as genuine intrigue settled into his chest; it was always pleasant when the burdens of his past lifted, even briefly.

While there was an invitation to voice questions, Lysander shook his head, a gesture as subtle as Brosi's cool breeze. Words held in the hollows of his chest like a prayer; his voice was low. "Terminating the group and destroying the data.. understood. Any chance on extraction points?”

Then, he sought out Glissara. "I'm ready to move on your signal. The forest favors us, if we know how to listen." He shot the holomap a quick glance, then back to her. "Whatever you choose, I'll see it through."

The mission specialist’s gaze flickered toward the Acolyte as he spoke, her large, dark eyes widening in thought before returning to the shimmering holomap. Her brow furrowed slightly as she considered his question. All the while, Glissara re-reviewed the holomap, lilac-hued eyes tracing after the green dots on the projection, committing the terrain to memory with a single, efficient sweep. Satisfied, the Jango Jumper opened one of her packs, pulled out a carbon-fuel loaf ration, and tore off its biofilm wrapper, revealing a soft, energy bar-sized protein-carbohydrate hybrid loaf engineered specifically to meet the demands of the Pursuit Zero’s high-energy physiology.

“The location of the extraction point will depend on where and when you intercept the officer’s convoy,” she replied, her voice a low, steady hum, “with additional consideration paid to the threat conditions in the local area.” The Askajian added.

“I will be on comms. The holomap should be downloaded to your devices. May the Dyarchy’s gaze remain upon you both.” With that, the mission specialist withdrew into the tent’s shadowed interior, leaving the two alone in the azure glow of the holoprojector.

Glissara took a small, precise bite from her ration then, her gaze shifting towards the Acolyte as he addressed her.

Then, he sought out Glissara. "I'm ready to move on your signal. The forest favors us, if we know how to listen." He shot the holomap a quick glance, then back to her. "Whatever you choose, I'll see it through."

“I agree. That said, this is going to be a pursuit, no matter what.” Glissara replied, after quickly swallowing. “Will you be running or are you taking a speeder?” She asked.

“The route I am looking at will take us through the sunken section of the forest—the path that Imperial armored vehicles smashed through en route to Shoengen. It offers the clearest, fastest path for a direct intercept. The ground is torn-up and hard-packed, good for maintaining speed. However, we may have to alter the route to avoid any Imperial patrols.” Her expression turned serious then, delicate features hardening with resolve. “Under no circumstances do we want to get caught in a drawn-out fight. If we run into any enemies, we kill them and don’t break stride.” She stated.

That was how Shatter Vectors fought. The importance of preserving momentum had been seared into Glissara’s psyche from the moment of her mind’s formation. A killing blow led to another step forward. Under no circumstances did a Shatter Vector ever stop to fight.

Lysander glanced down at the datapad, his gloved fingers flexing around its edges as he absorbed the details. With an incline toward the mission specialist, he offered a nod of gratitude, a gesture only natural for him. And though he understood the tactical point she conveyed, he still felt slightly out of his element here. There was no doubt that marksmanship training at Kor’ethyr had sharpened his aim, even under pressure, but this was still different.

With a single brow raised in silent contemplation, his mind spun an all too familiar web of strategies and consequences. His stance endured with poise, spine rigid, perfectly balanced between readiness and calm. As Glissara outlined the proposed path, a faint sense of relief melted across his jaw, like a ghost passing through flesh. "If we encounter patrols, a speeder offers a swift escape; on foot, we could fade into the foliage”, came the reply. The latter option resonated with him, almost instinctual. "Running maintains our stealth and also carries the risk of exhaustion. I can manage. Personally, I'd prefer a steady pace."

Both hands rose to his belt in an unconscious gesture, adjusting a small utility pouch before returning to a relaxed guard, an act as natural as breathing. “Your route is sound.. speed without pause, no drawn out engagements. We strike, we push forward.”

Silence fell over him while reflecting through several lingering thoughts; transparency wasn’t common among many of the Sith he’d encountered, but here on this high stakes mission, it felt necessary.

It was possible his candor would allow her to recalibrate plans, though he doubted it would be necessary.

Never breaking its smooth pace, his tone dipped. “This is my first active pursuit operation. I’ve trained in simulations. but this is my first live extraction.” He paused before adding, “I just value clarity. That is my currency, not credits. But my inexperience won’t have us back. I’ll have no trouble adapting on the move.”

Head tipping in the slightest arc, a stream of consciousness graced the air. “And in case we split up in the trees, call me Lysander.”
