PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Utilizes Multi-Lock Technology to get multiple locks onto a target to create the most comprehensive targeting solution available. This includes automatically factoring in lead or giving the gunner an artificial lead indicator.
  • Multi-lock technology in this ship allows for this to target something based on a variety of factors, including using a radar/lidar signature, magnetic signature, full spectrum electro-magnetic wave signatures, even utilizing the size of the target in the picture to be able to deduct the range to target, speed at which its moving, and then calculate a firing solution. This means that regardless of what your enemy is doing to try and jam your weapons you'll have a chance to at least shoot back semi-accurately.
  • Can have overlays be sent to this targeting system giving gunners vital targets to look for, and plotting leads for these targeted areas at the gunner's discretion.
  • Allows for everything up to turbolasers this system is mounted with to engage even star fighters and point defense targets semi-accurately, meaning you can use this overhaul aging systems on a vessel and turn your turbolasers into something useful when it comes to dealing with enemy fighters and bombers.
  • Can program smarter missiles and torpedoes to have a predetermined flight path, and then what their target will look like when they finally engage their own targeting/guidance system. This allows you to shoot missiles in the clear opposite direction to engage their drives, go around something, and then engage their targeting systems to lock on and engage their intended target.
STRENGTHS
  • Meshes well with other systems: This targeting system is excellent when it comes to working with other systems, including Electronic and Cyber Warfare systems to give gunners the best idea of what to shoot at on an enemy vessel.
  • Upgrade your turbolasers and missiles: This targeting system also allows for weapons that traditionally weren't meant to engage star fighters and bombers, to now be useful in scenarios against them. Have massive turbolaser banks that are pretty much useless as you're chasing down an enemy carrier? No more as you can upgrade to this targeting system and now while they won't be near as accurate as your laser cannons, they'll be more than handy against those pesky snub fighters.
WEAKNESSES
  • It's just a targeting system: This targeting system, while as revolutionary and complete as is, won't make up for crappy gunners. If your gunners don't know how to shoot straight, this thing won't magically fix that. Only the chain of command will.
  • Dependent on remote weapons stations: This targeting system relies on your remote weapons stations for turbolasers being operational for this thing to work. That means if the turrets have been disabled due to Ion/EMP attacks, you can't manually fire the weapons with this targeting system. So a backup manual system would definitely be handy.
  • Magnetic Sensors aren't great: This sensor package will only give you a general direction and mass of the magnetic or electromagnetic signature of your target. This means that you can only tell how much metal is in a general direction, and even then it can only reliably get these readings from capital ships or really really heavy bombers. Fighters are a bit more difficult.
DESCRIPTION
The gunner. One of the most stead fast professions in space combat, the gunner is by all accounts one of the most dangerous men aboard a starship. He controls at his fingertips one of the most powerful and devastating arsenals that have ever been unveiled as naval technology is currently the most powerful technology that will ever be fielded. This means that the gunner is by some measures, some of the most important people in the galactic militaries. And so Freebirds has decided to come up with something to enhance the lethality and effectiveness of space gunners across all navies in the CIS. And this is that something. A targeting system capable of delivering the most comprehensive, most accurate data about a gunner's target as possible, giving them all of the avenues possible to engage these targets and allowing them to get accurate readings and ranges from the target to make gunners more accurate, and thereby more lethal. Add into this that this targeting system can allow for larger weapons such as turbolasers even be able to target squadrons of fast moving star fighters and individual slower moving bombers and you have an extremely well developed and functional system. And while this system relies more on remote weapons stations to keep more gunners safe, this can be an issue if the station or weapon gets disabled. But at least your gunners will be alive right? And that's what really counts.
