Uh oh.

Valery barely had a second to react before the world tilted, a breathless squeal escaping her lips as Kahlil fell — taking her down with him. She landed against the bed with a soft oof, chest heaving, cheeks flushed, fiery eyes wide and locked onto his. Fifteen years of marriage, and he still did this to her. The way he loomed over her, his grin smug and teasing, the weight of him pinning her in place — it made her heart race, sent heat curling through her veins. She swallowed hard, but the playful shimmer in her gaze remained.

Then, his words.

Valery's lips curled into a slow, daring smirk. "Big words, love," she murmured, voice sultry but challenging. "You really think you're gonna win this?" Before he could answer, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down, her lips crashing into his with the same passion that had burned between them since the day they met.

She melted into him.

And everything else faded away.

Valery lay sprawled across the bed, the sheets tangled around her bare form, her skin still flushed, her breath coming in slow, uneven waves. Her dark hair was a wild mess against the pillows, and her limbs were pleasantly heavy, boneless with exhaustion. Kahlil had definitely won that round.

Still catching her breath, she cracked an eye open, tilting her head slightly to glance at him. "Sooo… you're not getting up to check that datapad now, right?" she teased, her voice still husky. A slow, satisfied smirk curled at the corners of her lips.

"Because I really don't think I can move."

M977SXg.png

"Oh I made sure you couldn't move, love."

Kahlil stood bare, stretching his arms overhead and bending his back a bit. Soreness in his own limbs, but that was easily worked out after this.. Rather intensive work out. Was it part of his plan? Yes. Did he get something good out of it, no, great out of it? Also yes. He glanced over to give a smirk before he casually reached over to take up the datapad. "So, what is his name anyway?"

Valery exhaled slowly as she stretched just slightly, only to immediately regret it. Oh yeah. Sore. Every inch of her body ached in the best way, a warmth curling through her limbs that had nothing to do with the sheets tangled around her. She smirked, eyes, her voice a purr as she murmured, "I can tell."

Force, he had really made sure she couldn’t move.

Her gaze flicked up just in time to catch Kahlil stretching, his muscles flexing beneath the bedroom lights. And despite the very thorough workout he had just put her through, Valery found herself biting her lower lip again, her fingers twitching with the urge to reach out and pull him right back down.

Focus, Val.

"So, what is his name anyway?"

She blinked. Wait.

Valery barely had time to react before Kahlil reached over and grabbed the datapad. With a groan, she tried to roll over, her limbs sluggish with exhaustion, but she still managed a half-hearted glare. "Don’t you dare."

But it was too late.

The screen flickered to life, the Temple’s security feed booting up inside the archives. And right there, taped right over the camera view, was a sticky note.

“Nice try, Dad ❤️

M977SXg.png

Kahlil stared blankly for a moment before a chuckle ended up escaping him. He set down the datapad as he then plopped onto the bed, laying back so he was resting his head on Valery's thighs. Vera had gotten him, certainly. The fact she knew he'd look and had the camera covered, he was much more predictable to his daughter than he thought. There was a bit of a sobering realization about that though.

She was growing up. So was Aris, for that matter.

"She's not going to need us to protect her for much longer."

Valery couldn't stop the wide grin that stretched across her lips, "She really got you," she mused, shaking her head. "I can't believe she knew — actually, no. I absolutely can." Visions, more than likely.

Then... oof.

She let out a small groan as Kahlil flopped onto the bed, resting his head right against her sore thighs. "Choosing your pillow wisely, I see," she teased, lips curling into a smirk. But even as she joked, her fingers instinctively drifted into his hair, threading through the silver strands in slow, comforting motions. Her touch was warm and full of affection as she exhaled softly.

"She's growing up, yeah…"

Her fingers curled gently, nails tracing lightly over his scalp. "But she still needs you, love." Her voice softened, carrying something deeper than just reassurance. "You know she looks up to you, right? She always has."

"I know why you're so protective of her,"
she murmured, her thumb brushing along the back of his ear. "Because of what happened before. Because of everything you've been through. But Vera also sees you in a way no one else does. And very soon… I think she'll start coming to you first."

A smirk tugged at the corner of her lips. "And when she does, she'll expect you to squint and gauge whether this boy is good enough." She chuckled again and looked down at her husband with nothing but love. "But she'll also want your support."

M977SXg.png

"You think she will?"

It was the worry deepest in his heart. As silly as he could be, he knew he had moments of being far too over protective. The kind that even seeing the note made him fear that Vera would feel she had to hide things from him because he wouldn't be fair or accepting. It was just.. Valery knew. She knew most of all. Even with Colette Colette , with their other children, he wasn't this protective. Vera had been through far too much for her age, seen the side of their family he didn't want any of them to experience.

He let out a sigh as he closed his eyes.

"I just don't want to accidentally drive her away. I want her to be safe, but I don't want to drive her away."

Valery’s smirk softened, shifting into something tender as she looked down at him. His sigh, the way his eyes closed like he was trying to steady himself — it was adorable. Her Kahlil, so big, so strong, so unshakable… and yet, when it came to Vera?

He melted.

Without a word, she curled around him, arms wrapping tighter as she pressed a lingering kiss to the top of his head. She held him close, her fingers still moving through his hair, slow and soothing. "You won’t drive her away, love," she murmured, her voice warm.

"Vera is crazy about you. You have no idea how often she talks about you."

Her grin widened against his hair. "And Force, don’t even get me started on how she brags about your runes and golems and other nerdy thingd. I’m pretty sure she thinks you’re the greatest Jedi ever."

She pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, her amber eyes soft. "You’re her hero, Kahlil. She adores you."

M977SXg.png

Kahlil smiled, some, as he let his eyes close and let Valery kiss his forehead. He let himself be held, let himself be vulnerable. It said a lot about how much he trusted her of course, but it spoke more of just how worried he was about it. Even with her assurances he was still worried. He never wouldn't be, after all. "I'm not really worried about being her hero, love. I just worry about being her dad. That's all."

Valery chuckled softly, her fingers still tracing slow, soothing circles against his head. “You’re adorable when you worry.” The warmth in her voice was strong, and there was no teasing edge to it — just love, just understanding.

Because she did understand.

She pressed another kiss to his temple, lingering just a little longer this time. “I get it, love. Being a Dad is the most important thing to you.” She exhaled slowly, brushing her nose against his hair before whispering, “And you really are the number one Dad to all of them because of that.”

Then, her breath hitched ever so slightly as she leaned in closer, her lips just barely grazing his ear. A playful grin curled at the corners of her mouth, her voice dipping into something teasing again.

“So… do you still want to know the boy’s name?”

M977SXg.png

That number one dad mug was still used to this day. There was little chance he wasn't going to have it, ever, in his life now. No matter where he went, for whatever reason, it was going to be there with him. He didn't want to ever feel undeserving of such a mug, not to any of their children. He took a breath after a second, eyes still closed. Though they did open as she whispered in his ear. A chuckle escaped before he sat up, nodding his head just a bit.

"Well yeah, of course."

The moment Kahlil sat up, Valery’s pout was immediate. With a soft huff, she pushed herself upright as well, the blankets slipping from her bare form as she did. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling herself against his back as her chin came to rest lightly on his shoulder.

If he was going to sit up, fine. But he wasn’t escaping her warmth just yet.

Her lips brushed against the side of his neck, her voice lilting with amusement. “His name is Kaelos.” She let it linger, let the name settle before continuing. “Good kid. Polite. Decent head on his shoulders.”

Then, a little smirk curled against his skin.

“But Vera is absolutely turning him into a troublemaker.”

She exhaled a soft laugh, resting her cheek against his shoulder as her fingers traced slow patterns along the nape of his neck. “Caught them sneaking back into the Temple after ‘borrowing’ a shuttle from the hangar.” She shook her head, but the glint in her fiery gaze was full of fond amusement.

“Went on some adventure together. Thought they were being subtle.”

A pause. Then, her smirk deepened. “Reminds me of someone I used to know, actually. Trouble magnet. Always sneaking out, borrowing ships, running headfirst into danger. Ringing any bells?”

M977SXg.png

Kaelos huh?

Kahlil nodded his head slowly as he listened, though he did pause. Confusion at first, then worry, then, oh dear. Vera was very much taking after her mother, of that there was no doubt in his mind. But how much so? He popped his lips, idly remembering some of the literature Valery had kept growing up in the Jedi Order. No, no, Vera wasn't at that age yet, right? Right? Panic was very clear through their bond now.

".. She's not exactly like you, right?"

Valery blinked. Then she squinted.

Slowly, deliberately, she tilted her head, her fiery gaze narrowing with playful warning. "You might want to choose your next words carefully, love." Because she knew exactly what he was thinking. Oh, she remembered the books she used to read growing up — the romantic ones, the spicier ones she had stashed away under her bunk. And sure, she had been… curious about those things earlier than most. But Vera?

No, no, no.

Vera had thought boys were gross until very recently.

With a soft chuckle, Valery shifted her grip around Kahlil's neck, hugging herself closer against him. Her lips brushed against the curve of his jaw, her voice dropping into something teasing. "Would it really worry you that much if she was like me?"

She grinned, letting her fingers trace absentminded circles against his bare chest. "I mean, I turned out pretty great, didn't I?"

M977SXg.png

"You turned out beautifully. But you also had an order who would expel you for having any interest in anyone more than a friend, at any point. I can be a little worried now. Just a little." A very little. Valery was right of course, boys had been gross to Vera for a long while now. In reality he thought perhaps she either didn't have an interest in romance or just didn't have an interest in men, but that certainly wasn't a conversation he was really planning to have on his own with his daughter.

Certainly something he wanted to let her bring up on her own.

"All I care about right now though, is she's safe. And happy. Mostly happy. I suppose if she takes after both of us happiness for her won't always be safe, huh."

Valery let him speak, let his words settle between them, but she didn't interrupt. She just held him.

Her arms stayed looped around his neck, her body warm against his as she nestled closer. Because she understood — his worries, his protectiveness, the way his mind always turned first to Vera's happiness before anything else. She felt it too, that instinct to shield their daughter from every heartache, every mistake, every reckless moment that might lead her somewhere painful.

But…

A soft chuckle escaped her as she finally broke the silence.

"Love, Vera already gets herself into all sorts of trouble." Her fingers idly traced against his skin, her smirk playful but fond. "But like her father, she's very good at getting back out of it."

Then, shifting slightly, she leaned over his shoulder, her lips brushing against his cheek in a lingering kiss. "And you know how much she looks up to you, right?" she murmured, her voice softer now. "If there's one person she'll trust enough to talk to, it's you. You'll be the first to know how she feels."

Her smirk returned, as she tilted her head to meet his gaze. "And if you ever do need help?" She grinned. "Well… I'll be right there."

A small pause.

"Even if it's just to keep you from fighting someone to protect her." She winked, teasing, but beneath it all, the message was clear. She'd always be there. For Vera. For him. Always.

M977SXg.png

"I'll probably need someone to keep me held back if I end up trying to beat someone up, yeah." Kahlil let out a faint chuckle as he nodded his head. There was a lot still to figure out on how to care for their children, but they could and would do it together. Side by side. So long as he had Valery, there was nothing he felt he couldn't do.

He closed his eyes as he rested against her, smiling calm and happy. "I love you, Valery."

Valery's smirk deepened, warmth flickering in her fiery gaze as she listened to him. The way he laughed, the way his tension melted just a little under her touch — it made her heart swell in ways she could never quite put into words. But then he said it, soft and certain.

"I love you, Valery."

Her smile softened, something more tender blooming beneath her playful demeanor. She tilted her head slightly, brushing her nose against his in an affectionate nuzzle before murmuring, "I love you too. So, so much..." Then, just as smoothly, her smirk returned.

In one fluid motion, she tightened her hold around him — arms looped around his neck, legs coiling snugly around his waist to ensnare him. It was effortless, the way she anchored herself against him, all teasing challenge and affection in one. Her grin turned downright mischievous. "And when the day comes that I have to stop you from decking someone for Vera?" She gave a little squeeze with her legs, leaning in so close her breath fanned against his skin. "This is how I'll do it."

Would it work? Maybe. Maybe not. But it would sure as hell be fun trying.

"Think you could break free, love?" she teased, arching a brow. "Or am I stronger than you?"

Oh, she was having way too much fun with this.
