- G.O.U.P. upgrades provide excellent resistance to anti-missile countermeasures.
- The warhead is a technical mechanism designed to excite compressed tibanna gas into a volatile state. The process is broadly similar to how poly-tibannalene is made:
- The main explosive is compressed tibanna gas trapped inside of a Dornean Inconel chamber.
- There are Dornean Inconel impellers, which force-feed captured tachyons into the chamber.
- Gravity refraction modules that are integrated into the chamber then work to decelerate the tachyons, which energizes them.
- That energy is absorbed by the residing tibanna gas, which causes a reaction that turns the Tibanna into volatile tibannalene.
- The compression of the gas is maintained with additional modulation from the gravity refraction modules to prevent polymerization, which amplifies energy buildup.
- Impact with a hard surface causes the Dornean Inconel chamber to rupture, which violently releases all of that built up energy.
- Inverted Xciters are integrated into the chamber, which cycles the tibannalene from explosive to ION yield at will.
- The FAE/E-01 Drive provides excellent speed for the missile in space, atmospheric, and aquatic environments.
- Size, profile, and connectivity are similar to the Bug Spray Cluster Missiles for the sake of interchangeability.
- For those "Tough Nuts to Crack" – These missiles deliver a high yield explosion, which is tailored to destroying larger structures such as capital ships, bases, or space stations.
- Mark Zuckerberg—Virtually unblockable! – The G.O.U.P. makes these missiles very difficult to counter. ha. ha.
- Armour piercing – These missiles have a dense, heavy outer shell that resists rupture upon impact, often allowing armor penetration before detonation.
- Variable Yield – Inverted Xciters can allow the blast yield to shift between energy or ION output.
- Travels well – This missile has phenomenal effective range, typically able to reach anything inside or just outside a planet's orbit.
- Underwater Viability – The thruster and targeting remain effective underwater, allowing effective use in submerged combat environments.
- Codependency – The less of these missiles there are in a salvo, the less sensor data there is for them to share through OSIVP software in the G.O.U.P. package.
- Ungraceful – while these missiles are fast, they are very heavy and struggle to make tight turns when they get to full speed. Not ideal when facing maneuverable smaller craft.
- Spool-up Time – the thrusters and warhead gas chamber take time to spool up to full power. They are not often activated until needed for safety reasons. Not ideal for spontaneous deployment in the middle of a dogfight.
- Common damage types – Damage output is limited to kinetic, energy, and ion—none of which are particularly exotic or unpredictable compared to radiation, sonic, or corrosive weaponry.
- Eats Real Estate – the missiles are large, which makes it extremely difficult to fit large numbers of these onto smaller craft.
The Du'mas class heavy missile was named after Nezu Du'mas—a famous Dornean general that was once believed to have perished in their historical campaign over Mahporeem. However, in typical rank-and-file fashion, the common members of the Dornean Navy picked a more blunt nickname for the missile to denote its nature: The Nutcracker. This was done as a nod to all the warships out there that were ubiquitously titled as "tough nuts to crack" by commentating critics.
The technology behind this weapon builds on what Dorneans have been already working on. For one, they took what they learn about tibanna from their poly-tibannalene experiments to develop a highly volatile warhead. Next, they integrated G.O.U.P. right into the missile's production to make them more able to reliably hit their targets. Then, they took an interesting turn and brought in a new player for the thruster assembly…
First United Astral Engineering was already a strong supplier of military hardware for the Imperial Confederacy. The Dorneans were prepared to be annexed by the Imperials, so they figured by becoming a client of an important supplier of the empire, they could gain some kind of clout before annexation. First United gracefully agreed to supply certain items, and the engines were the first to be experimentally integrated into the Du'mas class missiles.
The missile drew an awkward silence from the Dammant Killers missile company. Braha'ket's shaky past with them left both sides apprehensive about these missiles, but since Dornea never opted to sell them on the open market, both sides decided to let the issue stand. But Dammant Killers still watches them closely…..
