The DSI-24 is the standard-issued Ion blaster carried by specialized Dreadstar Security units tasked with counter-droid operations, vehicle interdiction, and high-risk arrests where the use of lethal force is undesirable or prohibited. Unlike conventional blasters designed to injure organic targets, the DSI-24 specializes in disabling systems, making it a cornerstone of the layered escalation doctrine adopted by Dreadstar Security Solutions. Manufactured by Aether Technologies, the DSI-24 is derived from Ion weapon research widely used by planetary defense forces and starfighter units that has been scaled down for infantry use. Aether Technologies engineers focused on reliability, predictable effects, and operator safety, ensuring the weapon could be deployed in urban and industrial environments without catastrophic power feedback or uncontrolled EMP effects. By firing a coherent ionized energy bolt, the DSI-24 can disrupt electrical systems, power couplings, and control circuits. When used against droids, the effects can be seen almost immediately as motors lock up, sensors are blinded, or the droid shuts down entirely, depending on its exposure and any shielding it may carry.
