- The Diamondskin-102 "Aegis" Personal Energy Shield is a fairly-run-of-the-mill anti-energy shield with the added advantage of providing a significant degree of protection against environmental factors (advertisements have been known to claim that one could traverse the frozen wastes of Hoth in the nude, albeit usually with the addendum that to trust the shield to that extent would be extremely ill-advised) and some degree of protection from kinetic weapons. A somewhat slower bullet/sword/fist will still hurt, more likely than not, but it's better than nothing.
- The Buckler Variant is smaller and directional, compensating by offering more protection from lightsabers and other high-energy weapons.
- Mighty Aegis: The Aegis provides significant if defeatable protection from energy weapons, ranging from the common blaster to disruptors.
- Second Skin: Unlike traditional personal energy shields, Aegises are projected close to the wearer and generally appear transparent when not in active use; this is especially useful in combination with its heightened resistance to environmental factors, encouraging civilian use.
- Specialised: An anti-energy shield first and foremost, Aegises cannot block kinetic projectiles, only reduce their momentum.
- Mundane: Aegises are likely to be overwhelmed by lightsabers and provide no protection from magic and esoteric threats.
- Trickery: Designed to reduce the momentum of bullets and sword-swings, Aegises are bypassed entirely by slow stabs.
Armour oh so often provides protection at the cost of mobility and comfort; a worthy sacrifice, perhaps, but a sacrifice nonetheless.
The second addition to Globex's Project Diamondskin is, like the Venture MPA that preceded it, meant to limit counteract this somewhat, albeit with flaws of its own. Where the MPA sacrifices the degree of protection, the Aegis sacrifices its specificity (providing only subpar protection from kinetic weapons) and is easier to render inert with, e.g., ion weapons than the metal shells worn by the common soldiery.
Such flaws notwithstanding, an Aegis is certainly more comfortable by far than a suit of combat armour.
