What are the differences between Droids and Artificial Intelligence?

And is it possible to create an Artificial Intelligence character without going through the required mission?

Basically, so long as your AI is unique in production and posted correctly as technology, you'll be fine to play it. It can't be in a Droid body or function exactly like Cortana of course.

Droids are pre-programmed, non-sentient entities, entrusted to perform a specific task(s), be it translation, repairs, assassination, labor, etc.

AI are sentient, free-thinking digital entities which are capable of all ranges of emotion, thought, learning, but are completely non-organic in their existence.
