Special Features:

  • Can reflect and deflect blaster bolts
  • Can collect and store Force Lightning
  • Augments the use of the Darkside

Strengths:
The Truesword boasts all the same strengths one would expect of a Mastercraft Sith Sword which includes being fully resistant to lightsabers; able to reflect and deflect blaster bolts; able to collect, store, and discharge Force Lightning; able to augment and enhance the use of the Darkside of the Force, as well store power within as an acting Darkside Nexus.

Weaknesses:
As with any Sith Sword, their greatest weakness of all is to that of pure, unadultered Lightside powers. Force Light and Lightside imbued weapons will greatly weaken the Force abilities of the Truesword, though they cannot undo the inherent strengths of the materials themselves.

Though the Songsteel does allow this sword to be lighter than a normal Sith Sword equivalent, it's not quite as light as it could be given the nature of the combination of materials used. In a duel against a lightsaber the Truesword is markedly slower, even in the hands of a highly skilled swordsman or woman. Due to its size and length, this sword is best served as a dueling weapon and not for close-quarters meelee. As well, it does not contain the cutting power of a lightsaber.

The balance of the Truesword is not perfect and the weapon itself is weighted towards its blade. Because of this, it takes a stronger, willfull and more practiced arm and user to wield the blade, as those who are not familiar with its balance would find it unwieldy. Its very design is not one that can be easily mastered - one cannot wield this weapon to its fullest potential without spending a great deal of time learning to use it.

Due to the inherent and imbued malicious nature of the sword, it has a bit of an attitude where anyone other than its Master, the Dreadlady Sable, is concerned. It has been known to physically burn the hands of other users and discharge collected energy on those who attempt to tame its wily persona. The Truesword is also infectiously corruptive, and has been seen to bestow its users with Darkside Sickness and corrupt its surroundings when stored. It has ill-effects on other Force-imbued items kept near it and will interfere with objects that rely on reading the Force due to its powerful presence. In the hands of anyone but Sable or Moridin, the blade will fight the user. It is not easily hidden from the senses of other Force Users, and indeed even Padawan Learners and NFUs can detect its presence.

Description: The quintessential Sith Sword. Crafted centuries ago by the Master Alchemist Darth Moridin, the Truesword was one of the greatest of his weapon creations and one of the few he’d made not for himself, but for his Apprentice: Sable. Like any Sith Sword, a combination of skilled forge work, alchemy, and blood rituals went into the construction of the Truesword, and though it embodies all the various degrees of strengths one would find in any Mastercraft Sith Sword, there are a few things that make this particular weapon unique.

The first of which is the metal concoction chosen for the blade: Songsteel over a core of Blood Iron. Blood Iron is exactly what the name implies: iron collected from the blood of Moridin’s victims, Sable, and Moridin himself. The combination of the two has made for a lightsaber-proof blade that is lighter weight than a typical Sith Sword of its size and length without sacrificing resilience or rigidity like what one might find with those crafted out of desh-terenthium.

The second defining characteristic would be the chosen design of the blade: a continuous cutting triple edge. This made the weapon lethal in any direction. As well, the length, thickness, and balance of the blade itself gave it reach and weight during use for overall powerful physical blows. This blade was not designed with grace in mind, but instead to become the extension of a duelist whose approach was strong, direct, and unyielding.

The third would be the engraving of Sith symbols along its length on either side. It reads a mantra of Darkside power, augmenting the ability to enhance the user’s connection to and channeling of the Darkside through its blade. The sword is a veritable nexus of aphotic power suffused and fed by the rage of its owner and the blood of its victims over the years; creating in it a heinous willfulness to be controlled only by those who created it and tamed only by those as corrupted and deep into the abyss as it is. The Truesword is corruptive in nature, containing the essence of the woman who has kept it over the years - it can be as unrelenting and dangerous as she to the uninitiated.

For further exposition on the nature of the Truesword, here are select excerpts from the above linked development threads:
“Lips drawing thin and expression growing ever more stoney, Sable wrapped her left hand around the hilt of her truesword. The woman's anger was growing and lest she unleashed it on an unsuspecting attendee, it would serve her far better channeled into the sword to be used later on. The darkside powers imbued into the blade drank in her emotions, siphoning them from her mind and allowing her to think the clearer.” ~Manipulating Shadows [03/04/2013]
~~~~~~
“Truesword growing hot in his grasp, willing the spill of blood, Dissero grasped the last Rebel with the Force, reeled him in and granted the weapon its meal. The body fell limp and bloodless; on the air the desire for death burned steadily, voraciously.” ~Casus Belli? Did You Order Fries With That? [02/20/2014]
~~~~~~
“...two blue pinpricks of light appeared before Soliael, and it might be seconds after he felt the hot sting of a blade impale him through the stomach that he would recognize them as the glowing eyes of Lord Dissero. It passed through and the blade rang as it struck the bone of his spine, searing through his insides and out through the small of his back. An unbearable heat could be felt by both occupants of the room, but it was a heat of the deepest throes of malice that Dissero had slowly become familiar with ever since attaining the blade from Moridin's prize student nearly a year ago. … The sounds of death did not echo in here, but seemed to become absorbed into the absolution. Something in the room was drawing on the lifesource of Devin Shamalain, and that something remained seething dark entropy in the hands of the Archivist.

The Truesword had not tasted a victim in quite some time and it was eager, so eager, to feast.

Dissero planted the tip of the blade to the floor and waited with a strangely bated patience for fate to unfold before him.

... The reparations were something Dissero was fully aware of, but with the wild Truesword at hand and still so completely unpredictable he could not spare any effort worrying about them.

Something in the air changed then. So subtle that even he had barely managed to sense it - but the sudden growing anger of the weapon at his fingertips assured him of his initial belief. Dissero silently padded away and sealed the blade back in its chamber, leaving the blood of Soliael on its edge to sate the growing rage within it. It would not feed tonight.” ~Breaking the Pit [01/01/2014]

“...Instead he reached down to his side where one of two weapons rested safely beneath his outer robe, and his fingers then closed around the hilt of a sword that Sven would be intimately familiar with. Dissero withdrew the blade from its alchemized sheath and immediately its seedy, contemptuous, hungry presence saturated the chamber. He drew it forward, holding it up in what little light now remained. The etchings of a long forgotten Sith language gleamed sharply. Sven would not be able to feel it, but the Truesword was the closest to its true Master it had been in over a year and it was lusting for her.

That grin of his grew a shade darker, "Where is the woman this sword belongs to? I've been meaning to return it to her. I think she would be most happy to receive it."” ~Rekindling the Dread [04/27/2014]
~~~~~~
“Pleased with this result, Dissero lowered the sword and, with some effort of his will, returned it to it's sheath. The suffocating presence of malice sifted away like the stench of death carried off by a breeze. The man's face visibly twitched and he flexed his sword hand, filtering the anger the weapon had permeated his being with. It was a fight to wield it, sometimes even to wear it. He couldn't fathom the power this woman had, but he was sure to admire her mastering such a heinous object.
The sensation of it made his skin crawl.” ~Rekindling the Dread [04/27/2014]
~~~~~~
“"I think, in this galaxy, there are many more qualified for the job. But they don't know what I know about the powers at work here. Jedi Healers don't have first-hand experience with Moridin's corruption. Sith Sorcerers don't know the intimate details of the Locket's spell. And none of them have dealt with her darkness like I have."

His fingers closed tighter around the hilt of the Truesword. Dissero funneled his will into it through the contact and his jaw grew tight at the effort. It was fighting him - all the worlds, it would win if he stayed here much longer. So close to its Master yet so very, very far from her touch.” ~Rekindling the Dread [04/28/2014]
~~~~~~
“Damnit." He grit his teeth, looking up at Sven and then to the Doctor, eyes passing around the chamber. He needed something...something of great power to jumpstart her own. But what? Force Lightning alone wasn't enough.
Then, in a moment of clarity, Dissero locked eyes with Sven. He drew the Truesword from his side and in one swift motion, before the King could react, plunged it into her chest.
The result was explosive - a flash of molten fury, a Force Storm of pain and dread and terror, it erupted from the sword and blasted the contents of the lab away. That Doctor? His death had been the swiftest of all. The stasis pod? Decimated. All the instruments? Dust.” ~Rekindling the Dread [04/30/2014]
~~~~~~
“The Queen's approach was cause for some worry, and when she drew that blade the Archivist struggled to get away from it. Dissero knew, without a doubt, the power of the woman and the weapon in her hand. He had absolutely no intention of dying upon that edge and spending the rest of eternity locked within its spell. Strange how terrifying the thought was when one was at the other end of the Truesword.

Especially when it was wielded by its beloved Master.

It had never been so tame in his hands, it had fought his claim every time.” ~Rekindling the Dread [10/05/2014]
~~~~~~
“Her right hand moved to the hilt of her Truesword and slowly unsheathed the blade. It had not seen use in quite some time - not since the last artifact several months ago. Since then it had slumbered within the sheath, complacent like a loyal dog having done its job and returned to its home and master. Sable studied it briefly, stroking fingers along the engravings in a tender, almost loving manner. And then with a sudden jerk and pull grasped her entire hand over both edges and sliced into the flesh of digits and palm. The blade cut deep, through sinew and down to bone, willingly and without any effort at all.
Lips drawn thin against the pain, the Dreadlady remained stoic as she slathered the black ochre across the length of the weapon like a finishing glaze. She felt it awaken, felt the dawning siphoning of the Darkside through the very hilt. It practically purred in her grasp, lethal and ready for its next meal. Sable lifted it then and the blood-slicked metal flashed in the sunlight as she tossed it then, like a spear, out and over the edge of the balcony. The arch of its path peaked suddenly, following the will of her mind it turned tip-down and plunged itself towards the waters with fervent veracity.
The Truesword plunged through the rapids, cutting past the current to lodge itself with purpose into the riverbed deep below. There the blood of the Dreadlady seeped into the waters, carried away and over the falls to corrupt the lands beyond and the people that lived off them.” ~A Dead Man’s Remnants [12/04/2016]
