Private Do You Wanna Build An X-Wing? (Corellia Part 2/3)

As he left his Padawan to the Sith books Okkeus decide to explore the house. Leaving the room he walked back downstairs to find Chirp and a very excited Mouse. Saying hi to both of the droids. As he contiued to explore Mouse decided to follow him. He was really like the droid. Beside Spraks, his mini probe droid, he had never had a droid. Hopefully they could build a good relationship together.

Continuing his exploration he ended up at a door. Opening it revealed another hangar, a bit bigger than the one the Blue Lightning sat in. Mouse wheeled behind him as he entered the hangar. Flicking on the light he saw there wasn't here. Some miscellaneous parts were scattered across the floor, a few tool chests, and what looked like the front end of a speeder bike. The only noticeable thing in the room as a large tarp--covered shape against the far wall. Walking over there he watched his step, while also clearing a path for Mouse to go through.

The mass only seems to get bigger as he got closer. Grabbing one side of the tarp he tore it away. What lay underneath filled him with excitement. Three X-Wings sat there, all that have seen better days. Two of the, looked like they couled fly again, while the third one looked clearly like a parts ship. He ran his right hand across one of the ships, dust collecting on his fingertips. Wiping it on his shirt he looked over at Mouse.

"Did you know about these?"

Mouse let out a subtle beep, indicating no. He stood a few feet back, gazing upon the ships. They had so much potential. All they needed was a little fixing up. Motioning for Mouse to follow he headed back toward the door. Sticking his head through the opening he called out for his Padawan.

"Hey Caden, could you please come to the other hangar real quick? There is something down here you might like."

He put the Sith book down.

He hadn't been awake long. He had shown Okkeus to his bedroom (Caden's former room), helped him tidy up then had a nap back in his mothers room. He hadn't intended to nap at all, he was just exhausted. His time with Okkeus had been none stop, and he was exhausted as a consequence.

He had been plagued with dreams of the figure from the cave. The figure continually attacked him, and he was continually told he wasn't good enough to beat the figure. It was a continuing loop, every single time he slept, like the force was playing with him.

He woke up a few hours later and Okkeus had joined him again. They began reading once again, until Okkeus had decided to go and look around. The young Jedi Padawan hoped Okkeus would check on Mouse and Chirp, the two droids had been downstairs a while.

He hadn't expected Okkeus to shout him.

He put the Sith book down and stood up. He adjusted his
Jedi Robes gently, clipping his lightsaber back to his belt. He pushed himself up to his feet and began to walk down the stairs. He wondered what his master had found that it required him to look.

He patted Chirp on the dome, indicating to the droid to follow him. He had become fond of the droid, Chirp having been the first to completion. Chirp had been present during the entire building of Mouse and had kept him company during the long nights building Mouse.

He walked into the hanger slowly, eyes flicking around. It was clear what his master had found, and Caden was honestly excited. The three ships were directly in front of them, two of which looked entirely repairable. The third was parts, but that was okay.

"I didn't expect these to be here. These are incredible, I wonder how long they've been here. I wonder how long they've sat unattended actually, might change how easy they are to repair"

Okkeus was a little suprised that his Padawan didn't know about these ships, in his own home. Well in his defense he hasn't been here for many years. That is probably why. A spark of joy went through him when Caden said repair. Ever since he was growing up he wanted to have an X-Wing. They were such awesome looking ships.

He had owned a few before, but they were all destroyed. Hopefully his new one didn't suffer the same fate.

Walking back over to the ships he noticed that the third ship, the parts one, still had some working engines. They could totally fix up both of these. He felt like a little kid in a candy store. Except now he was a big kid with X-Wings. Practically no difference.

Turning back to his Padawan he saw him looking at the ships as well. What if he thought the same thing? Them flying across the galaxy together, as master and apprentice. A grin slowly appeared across his face. He had a good idea.

"So...you want to take a break from the books for a while?"

He climbed up onto an X-Wing.

He quite literally pulled himself up the wing and licked his lips softly. The top of the ship looked in very good condition itself, and the ship itself was sturdy. He assumed to get them airborne again it would just be a simple job of changing filters, oils and engine parts.

"Absolutely. There's a tool crate over the back there, see if there's some spare filters in there"

He slowly slid to the back of the X-Wing, and pulled open one of the back panels. The electronics underneath the panels looked in relatively good condition. He presumed that the electronics of the ship would be similar to what he was seeing and be in good condition.

He heard a small beep, and looked down at Chirp. He gave a little wiggle and continued until Caden used the force to lift the droid into the droid socket of the ship. He gave a little beep and began to work away at calibrating parts of the ship.

Caden looked at the toolbox that appeared besides him.

He assumed that Okkeus had put it there. He wasn't sure but it was exactly what he needed. He grabbed out a socket wrench and begun to undo a bolt. His first job would be to unbolt the fuel lines, which first required undoing bolts at the top of the ship and then underneath.

"I think my inner Corellian is showing. Can you tell I've done this before?"

Okkeus Dainlei Okkeus Dainlei

Mouse beeped at him. Looking out of the cockpit he noticed that the droid warned in the ship, much like Chirp. Lifting the droid he set him down in the socket, then contiued back on his work.

He was very glad that his Padawan wanted to work on the ships. So badly he wanted to fly these magnificent ships right now. But alas, they needed much repair. Turning around he saw Mouse working vigorously. He wondered if the droid sensed his desire to get the fix shipped? Maybe they had bonded that quickly.

Thankfully the ship he chose had the dash in good condition. Unfortunately, the wiring was a different story. He began untangling them, trying to figure out where they all go. He heard Caden call out so he decided to answer.

"What, you have done this before? You must be lying."

Letting out a small laugh he finally found what he was looking for: the ignition cable. Positioning the wire onto the back of the dash he spliced them together. Good, now that was done. A small thought came to him. What if the ship could start up right now? From what the gauges showed, the ship still had fuel. Maybe not the best fuel, but it was worth a shot.

He looked at the dash, then to his Padawan, then back to the dash. Sending a little spark of lightning out of his finger it collided with the controls. The ship quickly sprang to life. Success! But it was short lived.

The ship fell off of its stand, landing on the ground. Somehow this kicked on the engines. The ship began accelerating across the hangar. This was very bad. With all of his might he slowed the ship with the force until it came to a complete stop. From there he quickly shut off the ship. Phew.

Poking his head out he saw that Mouse was fine, thank goodness. Looking back he saw his Padawan there, staring at him.

"I am so so so so so so sorry."

He couldn't help but laugh.

The situation had been relatively normal, they were just working away and talking about how Caden had done this before. He was working at draining the fuel lines to pump in new fuel and new oil. His plan after that would be to replace the filters and hope the ship started.

Okkeus launching his X-Wing across the hanger made the entire day worth it.

He had helped his master slow the ship with the force, and he assumed Mouse had been slamming the brakes on. Everything together had brought the ship to a stop before it caused any serious damage to the hanger walls or the X-Wing itself.

"Guess your ship works"

He laughed softly and reconnected up the now drained fuel lines. He spent time ensuring every bolt was torqued to it's correct specification. He would have to refuel and replace the oil levels on the ship before starting it, but at least now he could redo the filters.

He began working on the filters slowly, hoping that Okkeus had started to redo the parts of his ship that needed doing. He assumed it would be similar to that of his, filter changes and fresh oil. Just enough to get the ship airborne anyway.

He looked at Okkeus, and smiled.

"So, we gonna race these ships once they're up and running?"

Okkeus Dainlei Okkeus Dainlei

"Guess your ship works."

He let out a laugh. Phew, everything was fine. Note to self: never just fire up an old ship. Ever. Unplugging the ignition cable he looked around more on the dash. It was reading many different things. Low on fuel, obviously. Change oil, that could be next. Cockpit viewport ajar, well duh. Check right rear engine, hm...what was that about?

Hoping out of his X-Wing he walked over to the back of the ship. Crouching down he examined the busted engine. Nothing seemed to be wrong with it. Unscrewing the nearest panel he was created with a womp rat's nest of wires. Many were unplugged, while some were burnt in half. Good thing they had a parts X-Wing, or this would never be space-worthy. He walked over to the other ship.

"So, we gonna race these ships once they're up and running?"

Him and his Padawan were such a perfect duo. It was like Caden was reading his mind.

"I don't know why we would be doing anything else first besides racing these."

Once he arrived at the engine he looked around for any nuts, bolts, or even welds. After locating some bolts he unscrewed them, which made the engine sag down a little. What else could it be connected to? Laying down on his back he shimmied himself underneath the engine. There it was. A huge section of weld ran underneath the entire thing. He didn't see a torch lying around anywhere, blast. He would have to do it the old fashioned way.

"Hey Caden, do you mind if I cut off this engine with my lightsaber? Thought I would ask first."

He nodded.

The parts X-Wing was just a parts X-Wing, Okkeus was welcome to take it apart and use it's parts to rebuild his own X-Wing. Caden hoped that his nod would be enough of a signal for Okkeus to start taking apart the scraps and parts to rebuild his own ship.

He himself had pulled the panels from below the ship and was beginning to unbolt and unscrew filters that needed to be replaced. It was a simple enough task, it kept him busy and kept his hands working. It was something he had done before, a ship filter change.

He licked his teeth and continued undoing screws and bolts.

The filter fell from it's holding and into the hands of Caden. The Young Jedi threw it aside, grabbing a clean filter from the box next to him. It's replacement was easy, slide the new filter into the place of the old filter and screw it back together.

Which is what he did, screwing each screw as tight as possible to hold the filter in place. It was something he was good at, as a Corellian he understood how ships worked and how to build things, it was just something he had learnt since he was a kid.

"You ready to fire up?"

Okkeus Dainlei Okkeus Dainlei

He flicked on his lightsaber.

After a nod from Caden he began slicing into the welds. You would have thought they were made of Shaak butter. The blade swiftly moved through the Durasteel. When he got to the end he lifted the engine with the force, standing up. Carrying it infront of himself he walked back over to his hip.

Setting the engine on the ground he sliced off the old engine. Again, it came apart very easily. Hopefully all the other welds were fine. Moving the old engine out of the way and bringing the newish one over he set it in position. With no welder around he had to get creative. Looking around he found some strips of Durasteel. Perfect.

Grabbing the strips he placed them on top and in the bottom of the connection points. Turning back on his lightsaber he brought the blade extremely close to the metal, almost touching. He watched as the Durasteel slowly melted and shaped around the ship. Repeating the process on the bottom, he finally had the engine connected. Giving it a quick kick it didn't fall off, which was a good sign.

Doing some final prep such as changing the oil, replacing the filters, and doing some rewiring, it was done. Looking back over at his Padawan he saw that the boy was just about done as well.

"You ready to fire up?"

"I was born ready."

Chuckling he hoped into the X-Wing. Turning it on the ship's dashboard lit up. Flicking some switches and pressing some buttons the ship roared to life. A huge smile sat on his face. He had looked around earlier and found two helmets. Hooking them back up together the comms could operate. He began to talk to his Padawan, who hopefully had his helmet on as well.

"You wouldn't happen to know how to open these hangar doors, would you. If so, that would be nice."
