OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: District 8; “Little Atrisia”
  • Classification: City District; Arcology
  • Location: Denon
  • Affiliations:
  • Population: Heavy
  • Demographics:
  • Wealth: High. District 8 owes much of its wealth to the Golden Grin Casino, which sees hundreds of millions of credits pass through it alone each year. Other attractions, like the Bazaar and smaller pop-up markets, are popular destinations for locals and visitors alike. For those with Corporatist tastes, Jiyou Tower offers many expensive amenities.
  • Stability: Medium. Through the combined efforts of C-Sec patrols and Jiyou’s private security force, much of District 8’s violent crime has been eliminated. Small gangs and Code Zero cells remain, though they operate discretely away from the public eye.
  • Freedom & Oppression: District 8 is no more or less free than other multipurpose districts on Denon. Residential arcologies operate under a rental system, with tenants (‘habbers’) leasing apartments and habitation pods (‘habs’) from local landlords. Commercial areas of Little Atrisia range from locally owned and operated shops to corporate franchises and outlets. Inhabitants of District 8 adhere to Denon’s Corporate Authority, but are otherwise unopposed to live life as free individuals.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Golden Grin Casino: Missing the Golden Grin on a trip to Little Atrisia is nearly impossible - and in most cases, it’s the sole reason for visiting. The Golden Grin Casino is a massive attraction that draws in crowds from all over Alliance space. It features a full bar, a gambling den, a shockboxing ring, and all the games of chance one can fathom. While it’s no secret the Golden Grin doubles as a meeting ground for the sub-level gangs of District 8, C-Sec understands the casino’s importance, only moving in to make arrests when discretion has been compromised.
  • Jiyou Tower: The beating heart of District 8 is the neon-clad Jiyou Tower, the corporate headquarters of Jiyou Industries. It’s impressive visage on Denon’s skyline can be seen all across Little Atrisia, denoting the power and influence of the district’s premier corporation. Jiyou Tower features a large food court, high-end office spaces, and leasable state-of-the-art laboratory suites.
  • Ishida Park: Situated in the center of District 8, Ishida Park is a highly frequented open-air park featuring an impressively green recreational park amidst the duracrete jungle that surrounds it. The park includes common public amenities, a small lake, and several outdoor pavillons for civilian use.
  • The Bazaar: Food, handmade crafts, and exotic imports line the ring-shaped platform that’s known simply as the Bazaar. It’s here that locals and visitors alike can come to explore shops and food carts, sell their goods, and even hire a helping hand - for the right price.
  • Pod Lots: Despite their colloquial namesake, pod lots are simply a network of landing pads and maintenance hubs for District 8’s public transportation shuttles, the Saotome Runabout Mk. II.
  • The Den: Hidden from view in one of many abandoned warehouses on the outskirts of the district, the Den is Code Zero’s primary safehouse in the area. It serves as the faction’s epicenter in Little Atrisia, offering netrunners and code jockeys a discrete location to work, rest, or socialize.
  • Sub-Level 7: Deep beneath the surface level of Denon lays a maintenance sector intended for technicians and engineers to traverse in order to better access under-the-hood elements of the city’s infrastructure. When these maintenance hubs are abandoned in favor of newer, more central ones, they fall quickly into the hands of criminal elements; Such is the case of Sub-Level 7.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
In the mid-860s, Denon experienced a sharp increase in Atrisian immigration to the ecumenopolis. Skilled laborers, corporate personnel, scientists and technicians, industrialists, and common folks alike flocked to the CAD’s holdfast in search of opportunities. Some would find their fortune among the corporatocracy’s glimmering cloudcutters, but the rest - those down on their luck, or simply unfortunate enough to become cogs of the corporate machine - would trickle below, to the crowded arcologies of District 8. But they wouldn’t fade away. The first of many new additions joined Denon’s skyline in the years following, like the Golden Grin Casino and Jiyou Tower in 870 ABY.

In the early 880s, a wave of deadly gangs came to power in the lower levels of the arcology, bringing a new era of violence and fear to District 8. Their prominence saw the introduction of new criminal rackets, most notably the advent of a spice strain known as Aurora and the black market trade of copycat human replica droids. C-Sec attempts to eliminate gang activity were largely unsuccessful without the aid of corporations like Jiyou Industries, who provided additional security forces and support. Great progress in ridding the arcology of organized crime has been made, but the Ryujin triad remains a dangerous presence in District 8’s lowest sub-levels.

By 885 ABY, District 8 had changed itself completely, coming to be known colloquially as Little Atrisia. The people possess a unique cultural identity that is deeply respected by humans of Atrisian descent and alien immigrants alike. While the arcologies will never truly match the more developed residential districts, they will also never be the same after its cultural revolution.
