Staff Dissolving the Salt

It's been a while since I gave an announcement about behaviour on the board, and that's a good thing.

Threads have been ticking along, activity is good, and major factions are coming and going.

However, every few years it's necessary for Tef or I to step in when we see things starting, to nip them in the bud before they become big problems.

So, we're going to have a little reminder about echo chambers, passive aggression, rumourmongering and YOU.

SWRP promotes groups working together to make a collaborative story. That is our whole reason for existing. What we're starting to hear from the dim dark corners of Discord chats and from little niggling comments in OOC threads is some of the bad behaviours coming back.

To lay it out very clearly:

  • Do not believe rumours about what some person heard about from someone else a year ago. If you have concerns about an issue, seek out that other person or faction, or reach out to an Admin.
  • Do not mistake group consensus for truth. Just because all your buddies are saying you're right does not make it so. If unsure about something, or if you want real confirmation with less bias reach out on the forum, or to a member of staff. We are here to help!
  • We are not here to nitpick, prod and second-guess every single thing. This is a setting with laser swords, faster than light travel, and blue milk; not everything makes perfect sense! Ask for clarification if you need, for sure, but leave the 'um akshually' nitpicks out of it. If you have concerns about a post/submission then report it and we will look into it.
  • It is on faction staff and especially Major Faction Owners to display the highest level of behaviour, respect and collaboration of any members on the board. The position comes with perks but also responsibilities. Staff cannot be everywhere, so it is on YOU to police issues in your group and report problems to us.
  • If you want to affect change on SWRP, start a suggestion thread and outline your idea. There is no guarantee we will adopt your idea, but that is better than grumbling in private and keeping the negativity in.

I want to end this by being very clear; I am not going to allow the salt and toxicity which occurred at times in the past to return.

I will be instructing staff to crack down on any proven examples of the above. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Anyone we have concerns about will be hearing from us soon.
