"What do you call an Alliance pilot being strangled by his own tie? A TIE Fighter"

Name: Capt. Dietrich Bexley
Loyalties: First Order Navy
FN-888 ("Daughter"/Protege)

Role: Officer Commanding of the FIV "Whisperer" a Victory X-Class Star Destroyer. Dietrich also serves as the Paternal figure for FN-888.

Development Threads:
The Piracy Problem
Age: 51

Species: Human

Appearance: Dietrich's body was once iron-shod and carefully sculpted though with age it has faded significantly and his face bares the mark of pre-mature ageing with serious lines ironed into his forehead and they flank his blue eyes even in a resting expression. Dietrich has never really grown out of his youth in terms of a haircut and still combs his golden blonde hair into an undercut beneath service cap. Dietrich is quite a lofty man and stands at one-hundred and eighty-five centimetres tall or six-feet-one inches. Dietrich's handsome face and broad shoulders are still oft admired by civilian women while wearing his uniform and often complains about being fawned over by single women young and of the more mature variety. Dietrich speaks with an almost unbearably thick working class core accent and hints towards humble origins for the officer.

Personality: Dietrich Bexley is infamous within the First Order Naval community for his preferred informal relationship with the crew under his command. Promoting good esprit de corps and co-operation through the use of first names, and modestly accepts the position of local Father-figure for most of the Whisperer's personnel. Dietrich is popular with the Whisperer's crew for his policy which dictates that all personnel share mess facilities and use one another's first name. Dietrich is often derided as lacking discipline by ranking Navy Officers. Dietrich is a man with a fondness for alcohol and tobacco, he can often be found smoking tobacco aboard the bridge or drinking some high alcohol content beverage. Consuming the latter in moderation he claims increases his creativity when devising manoeuvres to use against the First Order's enemies. Dietrich has a strong compassion for his crew and the Stormtrooper regiment stationed aboard the Whisperer, which most credit for his lack of rank when compared to his decades of service. Dietrich is admired for his dedication to the First Order and the prejudice he has for unlawful elements in space such as Mercenaries, Gangsters, Bounty Hunters, Criminals Spice Smugglers and Hutts.

Force Sensitivity: Non-Force User.

Weapon of Choice:

Skills:
  • Maritime Warfare Officer: Dietrich is an experienced and cunning Maritime Warfare Officer, capable of pushing Star Destroyers to the limit when it comes to manoeuvrability. Dietrich also inspires loyalty and confidence into his crew who fight with increased zealotry, proficiency and conviction when compared to the average crew.

  • Special Forces Pilot: Dietrich has been trained as a Special Forces Operator in years long passed and possesses combat instincts, prowess and vigor matched only by First Order Stormtroopers. He is adept at flying most small craft in the First Order's Arsenal and proficient with most small arms and melee weapons. Although he receives little opportunity to showcase these skills to his crew.

Wealth: Upper-Class

Combat Function: Dietrich is mainly a maritime warfare officer and participates in battle from the bridge of his Star Destroyer. As a personal combatant, he is ageing but has years of experience behind him and can overcome the hapless fresh out of basic recruit who decides to underestimate him. Dietrich isn't going to stand up against a squad of Elite soldiers on his own, little alone his bridge crew of young First Order Navy officers. When Dietrich is forced into a position where he must fight on his own ship, he'll likely draw one or both of the vintage DC-17s that are holstered in thigh rigs.

Notable Possessions:
  • Hipflask concealed in a pocket inside uniform tunic.
  • Reinforced Duraplast Vibroknife concealed in a pocket inside uniform tunic.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Armour (Shock Trooper Variant).
History:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYw4-f62SZc
  • Dietrich was born into a family with a history of metalsmithing and jewel making within First Order space and had descended himself from Navy officers who had served in the Galactic Empire although they fell on hard times after that government's collapse and the subsequent collapse of successor states. Dietrich lived a fairly normal childhood and was involved in his family's trade from a young age and apprenticed to his Father and earned callouses on his hands for the trouble. The extensive metal fabrication he performed after finishing his schooling is partially responsible for augmenting his natural broad shoulders and strength.

  • At the age of 23 Dietrich's Father retired from trade work and desired for his son to take over their family business, Dietrich has other ideas though and volunteers for the First Order Navy and scores highly on his aptitude tests and is fast-tracked for entry into the First Order's Special Forces and learns how to fly TIE fighters like a true ace. Dietrich is also trained in unconventional warfare to a proficiency that rivals even that of the First Order's Stormtroopers. His entry into the First Order Navy deeply disturbed Dietrich's Father who disapproved of the venture as an ill-omen for their family even if it secretly filled him with pride to have his only son accepted into the cream of the crop for the First Order's military.

  • Dietrich is commissioned as an Officer into the First Order Navy and leads a team of First Order Special Forces pilots on operations through the borders of their territory. Dietrich and his squadron would largely run interdiction missions on suspected illicit activity and raid spice deals. On one fateful operation, the young ensign loses his right hand at the wrist to a slash from a Vibroknife held by a Wookie fugitive. Dietrich proceeded to kill the Wookie with nothing but a hip-flask of alcohol and a cigar.

  • Retiring from the Special Forces with a cybernetic right hand to boot sees Dietrich promoted to Lieutenant Commander and put into the role of the executive officer aboard a new Imperial X-Class Star Destroyer. From this position, Dietrich re-sharpens his maritime warfare skills acquired while at the Navy's Officer Academy. Captain Dornan prepares the still relatively young Lieutenant Commander for the helm of his own Star Destroyer one day. Dietrich watches Dornan verbally berate a member of the bridge crew who arrived for duty with his tunic on back-to-front one starry morning, Dietrich noticed how the delivery of the criticism negatively impacted the whole Bridge's morale. Dietrich decided then and there he did not want to grow into the kind of officer who belittled his men but rather inspired and encouraged them.

  • Dietrich is finally promoted on the recommendation from Captain Dornan to a fully-fledged Commander and receives command of an old Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer but finds himself relegated to border patrol and interdiction. Most notably, his vessel takes on a Battalion of adolescent Stormtroopers. Dietrich takes the time from his schedule aboard the Star Destroyer to become familiar with the training staff for the Battalion and even some of the Stormtrooper recruits. One of whom he takes an interest in as a special forces prodigy for her unrelenting determination and ruthlessness; A young ferocious girl with the designation of "FN-888"

  • Dietrich often insists on supervising the simulation training of the Stormtrooper of 2/17th Battalion given his own previous affiliation with First Order Special Forces and offers up his own critiques. Dietrich personally encounters FN-888 who was disgruntled with the performance of her teammates and offers some guidance, a reminder to the young aspiring Stormtrooper that you didn't win unless your whole team got over that finish line and you didn't win by putting down your crew, no. Dietrich had seen those effects first hand with Captain Dornan. Even the weakest and sometimes craziest links in the chain need to be cultivated for their potential. Dietrich parted ways with Helden but not before deciding she is officer material.

  • It is on the recommendation from a Stormtrooper company commander that Dietrich permits the use of lethal settings on F-11D blasters by the Stormtroopers within the confines of the simulation area. As a Special Forces Operator, Dietrich understood that the highest levels of trust between soldiers could only be achieved when they are forced to put their lives in each other's hands. The implementation of live-fire into training as a method to foster and increase trust amongst the Stormtroopers is by all reports a success.

  • Helden and Dietrich share a candid conversation which includes the former's critique of Stormtrooper training and in how in her opinion it stifled the creativity of First Order soldiers. Dietrich is overheard agreeing with this sentiment by an NCO from the 2/17th Battalion, the result is both of them are reported up the chain of command: Dietrich receives no punishment or penalty in part because of his exemplary service although it almost costs FN-888 her place in an officer training course.

  • Helden returns to the FIV Whisperer as a commissioned officer and Dietrich is amongst the first to shake her hand and welcome "Joan" aboard, he takes a measure of pride in having helped guide the Stormtrooper Officer's moral and professional development. While Dietrich occupied an almost paternal position for most of his crew. For Joan, he is the closest thing to a Father she has ever had and comes to echo him with a few of her own characteristics. For Dietrich's consistent diligence in performing his duty to eradicate unlawful influence on the First Order's border albeit often in a slightly inebriated state, he is provided with the long-overdue promotion of Captain and provided with a modern Victory X-Class Star Destroyer also named the "FIV Whisperer". The promotion being accepted on the conditions he retains the previous Destroyer's crew who are retrained and the 2/17th Battalion being stationed aboard.

Intent: This character will exist to participate in Faction Roleplay and help develop the character of FN-888 while also providing FN-888 a means of getting around through space to participate in Roleplay wherever it might pop-up in a lore-friendly fashion. Dietrich more or less is supposed to have been the closest thing Joan had for a Father and guided some of her moral development that helps distinguish her as a character. I hope it will provide opportunities for my fellow writers to read my character from the perspective of a paternal figure as opposed from that of a subordinate or peer.
