SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
~ an average carrier, the Diamond Class Cruiser has the ability to get through most engagements (with support craft) to land at it's designation to offload the complement of droids in it's hold that very well could turn the tide of battle
~ unlike it's 'bare bones' predecessor the Mark II sports several missile tubes for offense as well as flak guns for defense
Weaknesses:
~ relies on support craft to ensure it's arrival to it's destination
~ takes some time to offload the complement of droids
Description:
As the well oiled military machine of the CIS has plenty of warships, starfighters, and droids it had come to the attention of some that while their current Dropships could bring the infantry units en mass with a swarm of transport ships it would be more feasible for larger cruisers to be eligible for transporting while armies to a engagement.
CEO Muad Dib began researching older CIS ships looking to find a similar vessel to combat the problem. Coming upon the old Diamond Class Cruiser he found the answer to their dilemma. As the first of many projects the Aegis Corporation began the construction of the new Mark II cruisers that could effectively and efficiently deliver reinforcements to a combat zone.
As the ship lands on it's aft the Mark II's modern shields, weapon systems, and even it's structural integrity lends itself for dual roles. To either unload it's cargo and return to space or to stay and act as an asset to the ground engagement while also serving as a headquarters.
Reinvigorating the older design, Aegis Corp. began manufacturing the Mark II for a fleet wide distribution that would utilize the many droid factories for their cargo and eventually become important, strategic tools for the Confederacy.
As the Aegis Corporation seeks to extend their influence they will have several options to retrofit the holds for other cargo including (but not limited to) bulk transport, organic transport (depending on the order it could be anything to military units to a pleasure yacht), and even starfighters.
