Electronic warfare is an ever-present threat within the battlefields of the 900s, and finally, the Privateers have elected to get with the times. The Chimeric is their answer to the possibility of hacking or electronic interference, and is widely utilized in everything from buildings to starships to individual droids.
A somewhat unusual solution, the Chimeric is nonetheless effective, and predicated on the usage of Helix's anomalous metals. Such substances operate on principles alien to the known galaxy, and behave as such.
The Chimeric is typically wired throughout electronic structures, at least early on. This arrangement is not dissimilar to the immune systems found in living things, and reacts accordingly when it senses intrusion.
The Chimeric operates by physically restructuring software-bearing electronic components at the molecular level. The curious living metals utilized by the Privateers run throughout their vessels and installations, and it is these that are galvanized into action.
Cyber-threats are thus instantly nullified, as the system they were previously infecting technically no longer exists at all. The Chimeric cleverly air-gaps itself molecule by molecule. In the same way that living things' cells die and are recreated, leaving nothing of the cells they possessed at birth, the system destroys and remakes its bearers' own structure. Visibly, this presents as a slight liquid-like ripple effect that runs the entire length of the affected object.
Most commonly, this results in the immediate termination of any unauthorized connections. Repeated attempts will likely yield similar results as many times as the intruder cares to try. Needless to say, attempting to utilize the Chimeric on non-anomalous-metal structures is doomed to failure; the device is entirely reliant on Blightsteel-featuring structures to function.
Of course, this also means that the Chimeric cannot counter-assault or seek out the intruder in question. That task must fall to other technologies, or to professional technicians monitoring any potential intrusions.
