Deson Sanei
BACKGROUND

To live is to suffer. All one can do in life is ease the suffering.

A hard truth, but one Deson has come to live by. Despite all attempts to clean things up on Coruscant, no one can truly prevent crime on the lower levels, it's engrained into the heart of the city like a cancer that just refuses any treatment. Like most kids in the lower levels, Deson was an orphan, cared for long enough to start walking and, more importantly, stealing. You can't go a full city block on the lower levels without running into a scam, stick-up, or a gaggle of hungry kids who will turn out your pockets faster than some Jedi can move. Deson liked to think he was pretty good, stealing just enough to not be noticed while also keeping food in his belly. Of course, once you get older and stronger, you turn from pick-pocket to gang enforcer. Not a bad gig, a blaster at your side and people cross the street to stay away from you. That kind of authority tends to make one feel invincible like the whole world is your playground and you run the place.

See, it's great until you have that one day.

The day you run into someone bigger and tougher than you are.

Or maybe they just have more men?

It really doesn't matter. All you know is that you chose the wrong deal to try and muscle in on. Deson couldn't have known at the time of course, but interrupting an SIA field agent who was in the process of a deal that would arm insurgents on the other side galaxy was a very bad idea. He thought he would die in a trash heap in some back alley on level 1358, his chest all but incinerated by a blaster that had been designed to kill things far bigger and tougher than he was.

Call it the will of the force or providence, it didn't matter.

When Deson woke up, he was restrained to a hospital bed with a heap of technology that covered his chest and snaked up his neck. Much to his surprise, the very same man he had tried to rob was sitting next to him, simply waiting for him to regain consciousness. After a brief struggle against the restraints, the SIA Agent that had apprehended him took the time to explain what was going on and more importantly how Deson had managed to sabotage a deal that had been months in the planning. Instead of leaving him for dead, the Agent figured Deson now owed a debt and could work it off with some covert work for the SIA. The other option was of course to have all that fancy tech in his chest ripped out and he would be tossed right back in the same trash heap he was supposed to die on. It wasn't much of a choice.

His "debt" was paid off in the first five years, at least in a monetary sense. But once you've been an SIA associate, then field agent, you learn that you are pretty good at what you do and that there might actually be some decent people in the galaxy. Unfortunately, those decent people don't have what it takes to put down the scum who would make sure everyone else suffered for the sake of their own ego, or credits, or whatever it might be. So, Deson decided to stay on and keep doing the bad things that normal people don't like to think about. Twenty years of committed service to the SIA and the Galatic Alliance, and he still doesn't feel like he fully paid back what he owed. He didn't realize he had been given a second chance until long after the Agent that had pulled him from the gutter vanished into the complex web that was SIA undercover operations, he didn't even know the man's name or get the opportunity to provide a simple "thank you".

But his work was enough. It eased others suffering.
PERSONALITY

To be a part of SIA Counter-Intellegence is to be an enigma. Truly, one must be ready to take on any role at any moment if it means keeping to a cover story. Maybe you are the funniest being in the room, or maybe you are the strong, silent type. It all depends on the assignment, but there is still a living creature underneath all the lies.

Deson is still that back-alley kid from Coruscant. Sure, he has most definitely matured over time but there is still that charm that one finds only in the poorest levels of the ecumenopolis. Deson has a penchant for crude humor, though that doesn't get to come out all that often considering his line of work. Despite what might be expected, he still enjoys life and finds joy in the simple things, like helping people directly instead of performing some complicated scheme that might make someone's life better years down the line. That isn't to say he doesn't believe his work to be important, it's just better to be thanked directly for a good deed sometimes.

But the work of the SIA takes its toll. Bad things happen for the sake of keeping the Galatic Alliance safe and secure. Sometimes you don't just get to kill Sith Lords or Crime Bosses. Innocent people have to suffer for the sake of countless millions, and Deson will not hesitate for a second if he believes the death of an innocent might benefit the greater good down the line. For the sake of all those good people, sometimes you need to do unthinkable things. No one knows that better then Deson, but not everyone recognizes that fact, and that most certainly leads to conflict, especially with those who think themselves above doing the dirty work that keeps the galaxy safe.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS
+Boon- Man of Many Faces: Deson is well versed in reading a room and can quickly adjust his personality to best suit a situation. The "real" Deson is hidden behind layers of false identities and personalities.
+Boon- Professionals Have Standards: Despite where he grew up, twenty years of service to the SIA have made Deson a professional killer. From blasters to hand-to-hand combat, he can dispatch most combatants with ease.
+Boon- Strength and Certainty of Durasteel: The cybernetics that keep Deson alive do more than just keep his heart pumping. Punches hit harder and a couple of rouge blaster bolts won't put this Agent down.
+Boon- And the Abyss Stares Back: Counter-Intelligence Agents are selected for their ability to route out and eliminate opponents of the Galatic Alliance and its client states. Deson believes himself rather proficient at sniffing out enemy intelligent officers or other covert agents.

WEAKNESSES
-Malus - Darkness in Light: Though the Galatic Alliance stands for freedom and justice, preservation of these ideals does not come freely. Deson does horrible things for the sake of the Alliance, regardless of those who are currently with him. Some might think him cruel and sadistic, perhaps rightfully so.
-Malus - Shifting Objectives: How can you trust a man who can shift his personality in the span of a few seconds?
-Malus - Machine Man: Just as the machinery that keeps him alive grants him certain boons, it also provides a key weakness. Electronic weaponry and targeting of specific components will cripple Denson, perhaps even gravely.
-Malus - Ever Alone: Perhaps there are those that might some way to trust Deson. But friends? That can't happen, not for the sake of the mission. If Deson has to turn his blaster on an ally, he will do so, no matter how much weight it puts on his soul.
