Desert Getaway Package

The last two stays at that hotel have been less productive than expected. Thus far there has been a few big findings: the payroll is very erratic, no fringe benefits, the owner finds everybody incompetent, hygiene at the hotel is deficient and the food is of shoddy quality. We're on to something, but we lack information to take any further action based on that, she thought, while [member="Jerit Kolomor"] was near the front gate of the Crown Nebula hotel, where she had unfinished business, a score to settle with Ithuvask. On the agenda, they would need to be questioning the cooks, and then have their lesson in pyro/cryokinesis, and then confront the Trandoshan owner to the guests. However, there is no telling who could have changed among the staffers since Jessica last was a guest at the hotel. Perhaps a Dathomirian now works there, or maybe someone from Varonat. Or even Rhen Var. But she wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one staffer that changed from her last stay. Prior to entering the lobby of Trandosha's main luxury hotel, she had to brief Jerit about why she brought him here.

"There's a reason why I brought you here on Trandosha: we have a suspect innkeeper we wish to either lay charges on or to buy the hotel from. As much as it pains me to stay an additional two nights at the Crown Nebula hotel on Trandosha, I booked a room there once again. In the meantime, you shall also learn pyrokinesis and cryokinesis. Now, don't be surprised if anything goes wrong with our room"

Jerit stood outside of a nice looking hotel named the Crown Nebula Hotel waiting for a woman who was from the Silver Jedi Order. Her name was Jessica. Jerit had noticed her around the temple but not that much. He wanted to learn more about the force than the traditional ways. That's where Jessica comes in. The boy had heard that she was the girl to go to when it came to other force powers such as Cryokinesis and Pyrokinesis. He waited some more until Jessica finally came out. Jerit said hello and gave a bow.

Jerit heard Jessica brief the boy of why he was there and was now excited. There was a suspect innkeeper and he is gonna learn some new force powers. It sounded really exciting although he was a bit confused as to why the room might be messed up.

"Why would something go wrong with the room? Does it have to do with the innkeeper?"

[member="Jessica Med-Beq"]

"The clues gathered from my first stay in this hotel point at the innkeeper mistreating employees, with payroll being erratic at best, and also a potential supplies issue: the food, served in an overpriced restaurant that requires even guests to take reservations, is shoddy and lacks freshness, the maintenance is horrible, and perhaps poor management practices can be uncovered, maybe even outright criminal. In fact, there is an additional item on the agenda before we even get to the kitchen: psychometry"

Once again, 350 credits per night, for a minimum of two nights. So how many of the 29 rooms are occupied, on average? How much money is the inn losing? What else would we discover? I do realize that most Jedi are only interested in the mistreatment aspect and not in the business aspect. Just because there is an actual receptionist, doesn't mean that the Trandoshan innkeeper actually enacted much of a change since my last stay in this hotel, she thought, while accompanying [member="Jerit Kolomor"] to the front desk, where the new receptionist on duty, a Dathomirian witch initiate, greeted the guests, standing ready to assign the room: the hotel's reservation system only specified a certain number of adult vs. juvenile guests and the number of rooms, without prospective guests booking specific rooms. So there's no guarantee that they will actually sleep the next two nights in the Sunwell Suite she got in the first stay at the Crown Nebula hotel. The Dathomirian receptionist then hands them the room keys as well as the name of the room associated with the room:

"All right, your room will be the Elista Suite, on the second floor"

"Thank you"

In the meantime, the Dathomirian receptionist guided the two of them to the Elista Suite, which was right next to the Sunwell Suite she slept in last time, hoping that there actually was any cleaning done in the room. But, much to Jessica's dismay, the sheets seem to be a little dirty, the wallpaper seems to be peeling off the wall, and the food conservator have the same mold as in the Sunwell Suite. And more mold in the jacuzzi tub that they had in the room. Even though the electronics in the room were in good condition, it was obvious that there was very little progress being made in that room, and she didn't trust the innkeeper to be able to keep the rooms in order. May probably want to assemble the guests and confront the innkeeper about the problems of the hotel whenever I have the chance, she thought, especially if they could extract some piece of testimony in front of the guests that they wouldn't in front of the employees. Or otherwise wise up. But they had some employees to question in the kitchen later down the road, such as the head chef.

"Jerit, there is definitely something wrong with the Elista Suite: mold in the food conservator, mold in the jacuzzi, wallpaper peeling off the wall, and it's likely that, based on what we find on the sheets, we could have an additional clue. I believe the sheets may be our next stop on our journey here. With psychometry, you have to realize that you are, in fact, reading the object's usage history using the Force, and that, if something happened to the item, or its user thereof, that was charged with negative emotions, may taint you with the dark side. For this reason, using it on dead bodies, while useful, is to be done at your own risk. Try touching the sheets to discover what happened to the last people using that particular bed"

Jerit really saw nothing wrong with the lobby. It looked clean enough to inhabit by any particular species of aliens. To the boy, there was really nothing wrong. He heard Jessica mention another topic. Psychometry. The idea confused Jerit as he did not really know what it was. But that did not mean he did not want to learn it.

AS they got into the room, Jerit could smell something awful. It was mold. He looked around the "suite" and noticed wallpaper peeling off of the walls. It was horrific. It felt like they were staying in some slump in the underlevels of Coruscant. He looked into the jacuzzi and noticed mold in it. It was so disgusting. He felt like vomiting but did not due to sheer willpower.

He also saw something... weird on the sheets. It was some sort of substance that was probably left by the previous owners. He looked to Jessica and she mentioned everything wrong with the room. He already noticed most of them except for the food. Jerit was glad he did not get anything to eat or else something worse might have happened. Psychometry was mentioned once again. Jerit was instructed to use it... on the bed.

The padawan groaned as loud as he could in his mind. What if that substance was something he did not think of to be? He decided it was worth the risk since he can learn a new force power. The padawan leaned over the bed and ran two fingers across the sheets and focused on the force.

The boy gasped and was now in a sort of state of vision. He could see two aliens. A Weequay and a Quarren. They were snorting something. It was drugs. They were snorting some kind of white dust that Jerit was unfamiliar with. It was something that he did not want to see anymore. He exited the vision and looked at Jessica.
"They were using... drugs."
[member="Jessica Med-Beq"]

So the owner knows we're on to him, she thought, while realizing that, even though the rooms were not addressed, the lobby no longer caused problems. It would appear that the Trandoshan owner replaced the wallpaper since guests peeled off the old one. And she smiled at [member="Jerit Kolomor"] now that she realized he actually had an idea of how to run psychometry. And the last guests of that room were... drug abusers? she thought, while the guests being Weequay and Quarren, consuming white spice from Kessel, was perhaps something that troubled her. In fact, she was glad that Jerit knew when to stop: it may have led him closer to the dark side if he continued. She had to bring her hands close to the sheets, and, lo and behold, she got two additional pieces of information to go with the lead, as images of the guests Jerit mentioned consuming white spice on the premises flowed in her brain, as if it took up more and more of her graphical processing power in the process. The guests in question checked out five days ago, and, of all people, the Trandoshan owner was the one from whom they bought the spice. Once the vision ends...

"OK, knowing that the last guests of this room were consuming white spice five days ago, and buying it from this place's owner, is a step in the right direction, just that we should perhaps make a reservation to the hotel's restaurant, a table for two, then we'll find out what's wrong with the restaurant, what causes it to serve shoddy, overpriced food that lacks freshness"

"A reservation? Ya, I could do that."

Jerit pulled out his communicator and dialed into the hotel's restaurant. A man's deep, methodical voice showed up and prompted Jerit on what the boy could do.

"Hey, uh this is bumba's eatery. You can either place a reservation and come in to the restaurant, or order food and we'll come and bring it to you! So, what'll be?"

Jerit put his mouth to the communicator so the man could hear the padawan speak to him.

"Hi. I would like to place a reservation for two please."

"Alright. Name for the reservation?" There was background noise everywhere when the host's voice came in.

"Kolomor." Jerit tried sounding more masculine but it did not go so well.

"Alright! The wait will be around 10 minutes if that is fine with you sir."

"Of course. Thank you!"

Jerit hung up the communicator and put the device on his belt and then looked to Jessica. 10 minutes wouldn't be that long. Plus, they could look for more clues if needed before they headed to the restaurant.

"The wait to get in will be ten minutes if that is fine with you."

[member="Jessica Med-Beq"]

"In fact, we'll jump directly to the kitchen in ten minutes' time, but it's just proper to, you know, not go into the kitchen without at least some intent to eat in the restaurant at some point"

Just because the owner repaired the lobby between my stays at this hotel, probably out of the proceeds from my last one, doesn't mean the other issues have been addressed. I didn't get an answer to one crucial question last time, how many rooms were occupied, on average, on any given night? she thought, while pondering whether the menu of the restaurant has undergone any changes. If not, she would probably want a pie à la mode. Now, she was getting dressed for dining in the main dining room, and realizes ten minutes later that the dining room is laden with 11"x17" pictures of notable guests and staffers, even though they are not necessarily pictures of their stays at the hotel. The Dathomirian receptionist, the Wookiee that bought the very first safari package, containing complimentary access to a local hunting preserve, being left and right of her picture respectively. And she found the hotel surprisingly well-adapted to Wookiee morphology on the first stay, so these seats, made of fine wroshyr wood, while a little large for the Utai waiter that has to look up, were comfortable for Wookiees, Trandos, Whiphids and other species in that size range.

"May I take your order?" the Utai waiter asked [member="Jerit Kolomor"] and Jessica.

"I would like pie à la mode please"

Jerit was dressed into his robes as usual except for the cloak. He did not bring any extra clothes except for extra robes and what not. He almost never wore anything else unless the time called for it.

After Jessica was ready, Jerit followed her into the main dining room and also looks at the paintings with her. Jerit immediately recognizes the receptionist and looks back to Jessica.

Jerit took a seat and waited for the waiter to take their orders. After about a minute or so, a Utai waiter came to address the new customers at the eatery. Jessica ordered a pie and Jerit wanted something a little more, hardy.

"I'll take a Gorss Steak please."

"Alright. I will be back with the food!"

"Thank you!"

Jerit looked to Jessica once more and gave a friendly smile. He liked cracking this hotel case with her and it was surely nice to meet another master within the Silver Jedi Order other than padawans. It was a nice change and Jessica didn't seem so bad either. She was more hands on than most he had ever seen and it was a nice thing. He just could not wait to learn about pyromancy and cryomancy.

"What do you think might be on the food once we get it? Will it have gross stuff on it too like in the room?"

[member="Jessica Med-Beq"]

"I don't expect the food to be very fresh. Just because the owner got the lobby repaired between my last stay and now, doesn't mean the owner enacted much of a change elsewhere in the hotel. How about we get our pyrokinesis lesson underway?"

After realizing that the food is a little overpriced (the Gorss steak having one default doneness since the Utai waiter didn't ask for it, and already costs 50 credits, while the pie à la mode slice is "only" 12 credits), the two of them walk into the kitchen, where the two chefs are being criticized by the Trandoshan owner. If the restaurant's menu comprises 150 items, and only 50-60 customers are served, on average, on any given day, maybe the executive chef could run a statistical analysis of what... 20-30 meals are most ordered, and stick to those 20-30. A restaurant shouldn't have more items on the menu than the number of daily customers, since the carrying cost of ingredients goes up with the number of items on the restaurant's menu, especially the more different the dishes are to each other, she thought, while she had to endure the screams of the Trandoshan owner directed at the chefs. But she had to perform some business before the actual pyrokinesis and cryokinesis lessons, to ask the question she didn't ask last time, but decides not to confront the owner about the drugs being sold in this hotel:

"No, no, nonononononononono" Ithuvask screamed at the chef, while pointing at the apple slices of the pie à la mode being cut, on the verge of beating the chef responsible for those.

"How many rooms, on average, are occupied on any given night?"

"Jessssica, that troublesssssome guest that forced me to get the lobby repaired. Five, maybe seven rooms" Ithuvask responded, while the chef goes back to preparing the pie.

Five to seven rooms rented out per night being par for that course? Oh boy... this hotel is far from being able to meet payroll, but if one guest staying for two nights can pay for repairs to the lobby, she thought, while Jerit’s steak is being marinated. Yes, she was well aware that she mustn’t assume that pyro/cryokinesis students will actually know about thermodynamics; just because she can heat or cool gases by calculating PV = NRT in her head, and its difference thereof, with the computational power she possesses, doesn’t mean Jerit will have it. But there was no going around the latent energy if someone wanted to use pyrokinesis to boil items, or cryokinesis to condense or freeze items. Now that the steak that is going to be Jerit's is on the plate used to serve it, then she can actually get the pyrokinesis lesson started. She took a bit to resist the temptation to just use PV = NRT on the gas above and around the steak, and instead prefers to use another method to teach pyrokinesis, as well as other precautions she feels are important to take, as the plate with the steak is brought in front of [member="Jerit Kolomor"]:

"Too often, people think of pyrokinesis and cryokinesis as weapons. Pyrokinesis can be used for a variety of non-combat purposes, such as cooking, welding, but a beginner would probably be better-advised to use pyrokinesis on an opponent's weapon if they were to use it in battle. Pyrokinesis is about making molecules dance at a certain tempo, called the temperature. Try making the steak's molecules dance"

Jerit was more than excited to get the lesson of pyrokinesis underway. He was visioning in his head of summoning flames through the force and just the thought of it made him even more excited. got up from his seat and followed Jessica to the kitchen. Jerit thought it may have been an invasion to the staff an employees. But over time being in the kitchen, Jerit grew used to it and it seemed that the chefs and what didn't mind the two being in the kitchen. That is, except for the Trandoshan owner who didn't favor Jessica's presence as welcome as Jerit would have thought. To him, the Trandoshan was nothing more than a grouchy alien who tried to make the place nice, but failed horrifically and just didn't want to try anymore.

While the padawan heard the conversation between Jessica and the owner, Jerit was busy looking at his plate of steak being cooked. Saliva was manifesting itself rapidly in his mouth. The big slab of meat looked so good and he just could not wait to indulge into his meal shortly. After the conversation, Jessica was now talking to Jerit. He listened intently as the Jedi Master gave instructions on pyrokinesis.

Making the molecules dance? It was indeed a weird concept but took it was taken seriously by Jerit nonetheless.

"Alright. Let's see how this goes."

Jerit closed his eyes and barely lifted his hand. He focused on the smallest particle, the atom. He moved them around and then zoomed out and soon he saw molecules. He kept on whispering Make them dance at a certain tempo over and over again. It was a mantra to him to help him with pyrokinesis. He made the molecules move but in his mind he knew it wasn't enough. He made them dance more and more at a fast pace around the air and he heard a sizzle on his steak. He eyes remained closed but more tight than ever. Sweat was flowing down his cheeks and he was almost holding his breath. He focused on the "tempo" again and made the molecules move more and more again.

He was starting to struggle but recovered quickly. after about 10 more seconds of concentrating harder, he summoned the power of pyrokinesis and soon the steak started to sizzle again but for a longer time. Now that the molecules were moving on their own at a fast pace, Jerit started to settle his mind and then opened his eyes when the steak was fully heated. He looked at Jessica with a grin of accomplishment.

"That was harder than I thought. How long does it take you to do this?"
[member="Jessica Med-Beq"]

"How long does pyrokinesis take to perform depend on your skill level. It usually takes 3-5 seconds for me, but I understand beginners taking longer. Also, it can and does happen that, for a while, you could be inputting energy or, in cryokinesis, taking out energy, without the temperature changing, and that's the latent energy"

Hopefully that pyrokinesis-induced steak will actually taste any good. Then again, if the rooms bring in, on average, 2100 credits per night, and there are 23 rooms left unoccupied per night, would cutting the prices in half actually result in the doubling of the number of guests? Is Ithuvask even breaking even at this point, or is he losing money? It's entirely possible he is staying afloat by using a scheme of moneylaundering powered by late cancellations, but I would need to take a look at the hotel's ledger for that, she thought, while the plate with the steak is being adjoined side dishes, such as vegetables and rice, and later brought back to [member="Jerit Kolomor"]'s seat in the dining room, and another crucial clue as to how dysfunctional the hotel is can be found in the last question to Ithuvask, who promptly left the kitchen, before Jessica proceeds to summon a bowl of powdered ice cream using telekinesis, expecting its contents to be put on top of the pie once it is ready, which the chef does even now, placing the pie in the oven and cooking it for Jess to eat.

"Cryokinesis is the reverse of that: you're taking energy out of the object to get the molecules of the item to calm down. Try doing that on the powdered ice cream in this bowl. Once that is done, we're going back into the dining room"

"Boss, we have another cancellation: it appears that a Talz and a Duros have cancelled their stay just two days before they are scheduled to come. It has been the twentieth cancellation this week, and all those cancellations were made after the 30-day cancellation deadline" she reported to Ithuvask.

If the pictures in the restaurant were any indication, Ithuvask and/or Bumba was a rather peculiar kind of womanizer: so many different women, many of whom are human or Near-Human females, and a few males of a variety of species are featured. In Varindar's mind, despite the bad treatment Varindar was subjected to by the owner, Trandoshans tended to think of human and Near-Human females as either very pretty with few exceptions, or very ugly with few exceptions. For some reason, she realizes that perhaps the operations of the Crown Nebula aren't so clean. The cancellation policy is as follows for this hotel: one night is charged as deposit at the time of booking, and is non-refundable, while the remainder of the stay can be refunded so long as the cancellation is made 30 standard days or more before the prospective stay date, otherwise, the entire stay is charged, with no-shows treated as a cancellation, and the no-show being defined as taking place after the check-out deadline of the following day. Rather... draconian: Varindar has no recollection of the clan's hotel on Dathomir being this strict about cancellations. What few actual guests the hotel is getting, such as [member="Jessica Med-Beq"] and [member="Jerit Kolomor"], didn't amount to much.

"Look at you, Misssss Asssssyt: sssssoooo pretty, sssssooooo valuable to those I answer to" Ithuvask told Varindar before proceeding to touch her hips.

"What makes me so valuable to your, well, superiors? Looks like we earn more money from cancellations than from actual guests. Yet, you only seem to authorize spending for what the legitimate... guests... bring in" Varindar countered, while being choked by the Trandoshan.

"However troublesome Jessssssica is, she isssss one of the few legitimate guessssts we have. As for you, Varindar, my superiorsssss ssssseem to like women with bodiesssss like yoursssss"

And so Jerit was brought back to the table to eat; nevertheless, she simply resorted to calculating PV = NRT in her head on the air over the bowl of powdered cream, and proceeded to take energy out of the air, so that she could have a nice bowl of ice cream to take her ball of ice cream from when cooking the pie à la mode she ordered. And heat the apples in her pie using the heat taken out from the ice cream and the air around it. Of course, I'm cheating a little bit, but Jerit seemed exhausted from using the Force on the steak he's now eating, she thought, while her turn to eat the pie slice arrived. Little did she know was that the owner was very unhappy with her, even though she did, on her last stay, bring in enough revenues to get the lobby repaired. But she did realize that, even with Force-powered cooking, there was only so much she could do with those ingredients to get the pie in order. These ingredients are not exactly the best on the market, but this is is for her and this restaurant unless she could somehow find a way to chase Ithuvask off. Perhaps... assembling the guests and confront him would help? she thought.

"Perhaps you could help me get the guests together: we have a few things to tell the owner about the hotel. He is long overdue for actually hearing from the guests" she tells a Whiphid guest, which looked nothing like Velok the Younger.

"What do you think that will achieve?"

"Now, if you could please excuse me, I have an angry guest with a complaint in hand here" Varindar told Ithuvask, while the Devaronian guest came to the front desk with a complaint.

"All right..." Ithuvask replied, backing away while the angry guest complained about mold and dust in his room.

Once the complaint was recorded, Varindar started to compile the accounting records as well as the reservation manifests for the past few months. Twenty suspicious cancellations for this week alone, from guests coming in from various areas, such as Varonat, Thyferra, Farboon or even Utapau. Or even Tatooine or Zenith Prime. There could possibly even be hundreds of such suspicious cancellations, and a hardcopy of the cancellation policy was also produced, alongside the date on which it was enacted, that is, the opening of the Crown Nebula. Plus some of those fake guests' names correspond to slavers caught on various theaters: Dokkalfarsed, Caupona to name a few. So that, even after their capture, the Ta'jars that were left behind still used their names to carry out crimes. And then she took all that documentation to Jessica, in hopes that confronting the owner would probably succeed and that he will flinch. By now Varindar was rushing towards the restaurant, hoping that Jessica was still there, with her copies of the incriminating datafiles. Once she arrived at the restaurant, she realizes that there are several guests already on deck.

"I have evidence that the hotel is being used to launder money!"

"We shall confront the owner together then, although we have different crimes to confront him for: drug trafficking in the Elista Suite"

The brave guests gasped in horror when both Varindar and Jessica announced that they had evidence incriminating Ithuvask of several crimes: moneylaundering on the one hand, drug trafficking on the other. Maybe the ruckus was enough to get the owner out, and not simply because his receptionist would be out to the restaurant alongside the Whiphid guest and a few more guests, in fact, all of the legitimate guests, out for his blood or perhaps a confession for his crimes. Ithuvask is coming towards the restaurant, to see all of about 10-12 guests assembled in front of him and being mad at him for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is the bad service at the hotel. Of course, every guest had every right to be afraid of the Trandoshan owner. That, even though Jessica could simply use whatever power was appropriate to put him down if it became necessary to do so. On the whole, the owner had also just as much of a right to be afraid of the guests. Especially after his foul deeds and those of his phony guests. And maybe one or two of his past legitimate guests as well, even though ony the current guests were in the restaurant to face the truth.

"Your feedback on the hotel would be well-appreciated"

"The rooms are dirty, have mold everywhere, the wallpaper would easily be peeled off", "the food is able to make us vomit", the guests, one after the other, voiced in complaints to the Trandoshan owner.

"How do you explain the white spice we found in the Elista Suite's bed sheets? After using psychometry on the suite's bed sheets, where the white spice is in, I found out that the last legitimate guests staying in that suite, a Weequay and a Quarren, bought white spice from you five days ago!"

"How do you explain that people associated with the Ta'jar Blood Gang have been regularly been cancelling stays here? Once, maybe twice if spaced months or years apart, and I get that some of them cancelled their bookings here after they got arrested, but others have been at it two or three times a month! You're not running a hotel, you're running a crime ring! The Ta'jar Blood Gang has been using this hotel for moneylaundering!"

"The Ta'jar Blood Gang? All I ever have tiessssss with them is that I rely on them for our sssssstaffing needssssss!" Ithuvask rebutted, in denial.

"The Ta'jar Blood Gang is not a staffing agency, they are a crime ring!"

"They have been feeding usssss guestsssss, they have kept thissssss place afloat all thossssse yearsssss! I doubt anybody can actually keep a luxury hotel running on thisssss hive of ssssscum and villainy that is Trandosssssha! We had to ssssell their white ssssspice here!"

"I'll deliver you to the nearest police station!"

Ithuvask was speechless, and irked that he would be exposed so suddenly for moneylaundering and drug trafficking as it pertained to their use of the Elista Suite for that latter purpose. Varindar and Jessica exposed the Ta'jar Blood Gang crimes and how the hotel fit in that crime syndicate, and caught him red-handed. Another guest called the police on his comms, and the guests could sense the police sirens coming to the hotel's premises as the local police came in to apprehend the owner, on moneylaundering and drug trafficking charges. It was the end of years of Ta'jar operations in this hotel, and it couldn't come any sooner. So Varindar set the computing equipment aside for the police to collect as evidence for the Ta'jars' crimes, while the sheets in the Elista Suite were unusable as evidence due to the duet sleeping on it. Before the police officers arrive to take the Trandoshan innkeeper into custody, she had one last question to ask the guests in front of a visibly shaking Ithuvask. I wonder what the Silvers will do with the hotel now that the innkeeper will be placed under arrest for moneylaundering and drug trafficking, she thought.

"Show of hands: who would stay here again under this administration?" Varindar asked the guests, with no guest actually raising their hands.

"Ithuvask, you're under arrest; you have the right to remain silent. Everything you may say may be held against you. If you do not have legal counsel, the courts will designate one" the Trandoshan police officer announced in front of Ithuvask.

"The Crown Nebula Hotel is now considered seized and henceforth Silver Jedi property!"

While Ithuvask was taken away, handcuffed and under custody, the remaining staff of the hotel was coming out for this special moment of their tenures at this hotel: the Ta'jar Blood Gang no longer owned the place. Understandably, a change in ownership could mean a number of possibilities: some of them feared that they would experience a turn for the worse, others kept hope that the Jedi would actually have a clue as to how to run the hotel. Changing ownership and, with it, the management, does not guarantee in any way that the new management will actually be any better than the last one. To the extent she knew few, if any Jedi, were willing to dedicate themselves, even part-time, to running a hotel, the question is: is there anybody who, internally, could assume the position? It was often preferrable to have someone assume the position internally for turning the hotel around if the skills were present in-house: they know what's wrong with the place, whereas an external hire would need to be brought up to speed about the specific situation and where to go from there, what they had at their disposal to do so.

"We're offering continuing education as well as a Jedi starter kit to the successful candidate, alongside salary commensurate with skills and experience and an expenses account"

"With all due respect, Varindar is the one who knows best about the problems of the hotel" Bumba declared. "Whereas I only know about the restaurant's, Varindar took all the complaints at the front desk since she even started working here"

"Hold on, doesn't mean that she knows about what's wrong from the guest's perspective that she can actually go around solving those problems!" a Utai housekeeper retorted.

"I have to say it upfront: there's more to managing a hotel than simply taking care of the guest experience. It's with reluctance that I'm stepping up to the plate. But since the Order promised continuing education, I would also like Force-training as well, since the Howling Crags neglected my training for a while"

Now that Varindar is the general manager of the Crown Nebula Hotel, she is responsible for the overall direction of the hotel. Cleanliness-related complaints are numerous, and they were rather straightforward to address. Using the money seized from the Ta'jars, her list of to-dos is pretty expensive in the hotel's context, and the restaurant's executive chef should be given free reign to cook a menu and choose the ingredients based on it. She would also want to overhaul the cancellation policy and make it much less draconian, but paying the salary arrears to all the staffers, past and present (that are still alive; it's possible some of them may be dead) may prove to be more complicated. Now she had to return to the front desk since she would rather not encroach on the housekeepers' duties, and the painters, whose work would begin with the rooms that were not rented out, so non-suites were first, since, under the Ta'jars, suites were prioritized, and upgrades were free most of the time, so the non-suites were hardly used. In that case, ground-floor rooms were to be done first, with about a third of the rooms being painted at any given time.

"My first act as the GM of the Crown Nebula is to get every room thoroughly cleaned, the linens replaced and also to get the wallpaper replaced in the hotel"
